  1. thanks K-B that's very itneresting! At the Gunnedah Show there was a kelpie in the best of show line up. Now to me he was far too stocky but obviously wasn't to get in the best of show line up. i met him the next day and he really was a lovely friendly fellow. Just probably a difference in the show and farm kelpies.
  2. now I'm thinking he is not well but i don't know what is wrong with him i'm going to give him a little dinner and put a bit of oil in it to see whether he is a bit bound up i hate it when they are off colour - he would if he could tell me what's wrong with him coz he is bright enough but sadly he can't
  3. Flash my rescue coolie does have a bit of a growl every now and again at my other dogs but today he is especially growly at them for no reason and he was asleep and started growling in his sleep I've felt him all over and he doesn't seem in pain he has wanted to play with his football which he is obsessed with and ate his breakfast with no complaints he may be a bit sleepier than normal what else should I check for? thanks
  4. I have the most horrible rash on the front of my chest and couldn't work out where it I told a friend who is a nurse and very much a dog person and she was askign me 101 questions. I did admit that Flashy had been very snuggly on these cold nights but said that I was embarrassed saying that because it could have certain connotations which certainly arent' the case. She thinks that maybe Flash has something on his fur that i'm allergic to and then proceeded to tell me that she sits on the floor everynight with her four rottweilers surrounding her all trying to sit on her only a dog person would understand.................
  5. whooops - I had them in my head, forgot to put them down
  6. why? they are a recognised breed unless your dog is a kelpie x? The vet automatically puts coolie x on vet cards
  7. I asked them politely to include the "Aust." on my membership card :D good for you :D I know some people spell coolie with a c and others with a k - i think the k started to differentiate them from collies. However the person who introduced me to this wonderful breed spells it with a c so I do
  8. lol - i actually wondered if I should have typed "Australian" in front of them or if they are known just as kelpies. Now I know another awesome dog - hey they were developed from coolie stock so of course they are jrts - are definitely english. Every second english household seems to have one - I think from memory that my aunt's sister had some of the first ones in the 1970s, they were pretty rare back then anyway. I could be wrong though. They seem to have gained popularity very quickly.
  9. I thought the Coolie was in fact the German Coolie and imported here. the coolie aka German Coolie and can be spelt with a "k" was definitely bred in Australia. The reason the german is in the name is that the origins are from South Australia and there was a large german population farming down that way who started developing the coolie. Border collies are definitely Scottish/english but my understanding is that the breed commenced development here
  10. I can't believe I forgot about the stumpy tail - I fostered one last year for ACD Rescue - he was the most devine dog, so energetic but with the sweetest nature Australian Bulldog - I completely forgot about the Australian Bulldog minature fox terriers are they the same as Tenterfield terriers or a different breed
  11. what breeds of dogs have been made and developed in Australia. I can think of a few but I'm sure that I'm missing lots. coolie - my heart dog australian terrier australian silky terrier kelpie australian cattle dog tenterfield terriers I'm not sure about the Australian Shepherd, was the breed recognised in Australia and then developed in America? can anyone add any more to this list
  12. there's something in my eye too what a beautiful story that was thank you for sharing the link
  13. no problems about flying puppies anywhere these days Breeders I would suggest are Nistar Goldens - I got my Tilly-Rose from there and her Dad has just sired another litter or Harvickgold has pups - I do my dog training there best of luck, golden retrievers are the best!
  14. awww that's a lovely story hope Rennie leads the sort of life she now deserves you deserve a big bunch of flowers YG!
  15. poor dog, poor owner It may very well have been the beloved pet of the couple and a horrible decision had to be made RIP dog and I hope that the man and his wife recover from the trauma and their injuries
  16. I'm very sorry for your loss What a beautiful boy Bazzy was Run free at Rainbow Bridge
  17. the air snapping may be a working breed trait I know my young coolie does it, if she brings me back the ball and I'm a bit slow in throwing it back to her she snaps at the air to try and get my attention I have never thought that she is trying to bite me in the least becasue it's not that sort of action, but I would be more cautious with an older dog i think that you are doing really well with what you are training her to do and how she is responding

  20. I have my litter tray in my laundry tub which is perfect. I have a little scratchin post that the cats can jump on then onto the bench and into their litter tray
  21. thank you for the great laugh! oh and my lot here are voting for the "cat did it"
  22. You sound like you will be a wonderfully responsible dog owner but as much as you would love to get a dog I would worry about putting a dog in that enviornment with someone not really wanting one Wait until you have more control in your own place. In the meantime help out at a shelter, do rescue dog transport, lots of ways to help out without a full committment of having a dog
  23. Latte, my pup has this most annoying toy that she absolutely is obsessed with. Just the right amount of annoying squeak for an adventurous pup. One afternoon she was playing with it for hours. Flash the smart coolie must have had enough, he walked over to the toy, picked it up, took it back to the couch and laid his paw over it and went back to sleep. Sin binned the toy Latte was absolutely shocked and kept running from me to one of my other dogs for help
  24. I have a very smart coolie so I can relate to that. His first smartness was to make me fall in love with him so I would keep him when he was supposed to be a foster dog. I have to give him the red bowl with his food in it because it's his bowl and he knows it is naughty to eat out of the other dogs bowls. Trouble is that sometimes I absently minded give Tilly the red bowl and flash the purple bowl, Flash then won't eat but Tily has finished the contents of the red bowl - she just sees food I was really sick one day and in bed and he brought me in my childhood teddy. That was really odd, because the teddy is put up high in the wallunit, they have never been allowed to play with it although there are various dog "teddies" around the place he bought this teddy specifically. have to be constantly on your toes with smart dogs! but they are heaps of fun
