no I think he would much prefer to sleep in the bedroom in his crate so i would take it into the bedroom each night provided that you are happy with that. you'll eventually get two crates, one you will leave in the loungeroom, one you will leave in the bedroom

great post Mjosa that's exactly what I was thinking If only experienced people bred eventually they would pass on and there would be no one breeding pedigree dogs you could bet your bottom dollar though that byb would be flourishing. I'm hoping to get into breeding griffons, I have no experience in breeding but would consider that i do have a good knowledge of dogs (and i have rescued dogs), I have a mentor in griffons, I just want to go up the "next step" if I can describe it as that and show and become a breeder as well, should I not because I have no experience of breeding? I actually thought the OP was a reasonable question although I am aware that smaller dogs can come into season early on. and I also liked the way the OP said provided that the dogs were a good example of the breed so does show some knowledge.

Happy happy Birthday Gemma you are beautiful!

there are very few dogs that I would put in a soft crate and a jack russell isn't one on the list. My coolie foster boy chewed through his soft crate, I would imagine a jack russell would be capable of doing so too. If you have one crate you would need to carefully supervise at all times ie have the crate in your room and if anything does go on get up immediately to sort out and even then be able to put one dog in another crate so they are separated. My griffon and my coolie girl sleep in one crate at nighttime but my coolie was crate trained before the griffon came along, the coolie goes straight to sleep when she is put in her crate and always has, the crate is in my bedroom and the very few times they have started playing I have been able to yell at them to get to sleep. But I also do have another crate in the loungeroom and the griffon at times goes into that crate so he is being taught how to be in a crate on his own as well.

i only want a small bag of puppy food though? How much would that be and the cost of freight? -
i think that king charles spaniels are smaller than Cavaliers as well from memory those beautiful spaniels that you see in old english paintings are king charles spaniels

she doesn't have to go to special show training classes but I would highly recommend them as not only puppy socialisation for her but the tips that you learn about the show ring would be invaluable. It also gets the pup used to other dogs in front and behind for the show ring. In fact I went to show training classes with a dog that wasn't able to be shown just for the socialisation and have now ended up somehow with another dog that can be shown As others said have a chat to your breeder as well about whether your pup has some show potential. The advice I was given that your first pup you normally don't win in the show ring with but you learn so much that you have a better chance with your next pup. I'm lucky though my first show dog is a griffen so I could have a dozen in not much space - St Bernards are a bit different But the best advice I was given was just go out and have fun And if you find showing is not for you or your St Bernard there are other ways you can exhibit him such as obedience trials. That was one of the main factors for me too with my griffen, that I could do something else with him rather than just showing such as obedience and agility. All the very best of luck

Question For If One Day I Decide To Rescue A Dog
Ons replied to Isabel964's topic in General Dog Discussion
If i was looking for another rescue dog I would look for a reputable rescue organisation (can highly recommend AWDRI, ACDR, Coolibah Coolies but there are many other reputable rescues out there ) and for a dog that has been in a foster home for over two weeks. That way you can know the temperament of the dog from the foster home, they should allow your own dog/s to meet the dog and will give you a no obligation trial period as well to see how things go at home. Or you could offer to foster and then find yourself with a foster failure like my Flashes. I didn't plan on keeping him, he just fitted in so well with my other dogs and I just loved him -
oh my goodness how absolutely adorable!

I don't have an OH but my dad is very funny about one of his cavalier king charles spaniels. He has always liked the older one, Kyra. But he and Katie are utterly in love with each other. Dad has always just tolerated the animals that we have had, he did marry Mum who is an animal lover but he and Katie have a special relationship. Katie spends her life trotting after Dad and when he is cleaning the pool or gardening he constantly throws the ball to her. If he has a nap during the day he tells her to come with him and off she trots. Nobody is allowed to say anything bad about her because she can do no wrong whatsoever in his eyes It's just lovely to see such a bond

I prefer a fenced in yard only because Onslow prefers to sit outside in the evenings where the rest of the gang like to hang inside with me watching telly. Onslow comes in and sleeps at night though. I wouldn't though leave a dog unattended in a strange yard whilst i was away, dogs would come with me.

thank you everyone! I had to watch all the big dogs go for a walk I got locked in a crate whislt they were out - not fair!

lol at fifi thank you BM, I also don't think that alot goes on in the griffon thread sadly. Probably not too many griffon owners on DOL.

misson impossible - taking photos of him by myself in any position he doesn't stay still unless on my lap!

Mum says she is going to take me to Glen Innes so I may see you there I am very active - yes - but Latte is very active and we have been playing with each other lots, we are very cute together. When Mum thinks she is being a bit rough with me she separates and I rush over to be with her with my little tail wagging non stop I do also loves just sitting on mum's lap and our visitors yesterday snuggling. Mum sometimes puts me in a crate in the loungeroom and I don't like that and let her know for a bit but that wears me out and I have a snooze. At night I go in a crate in mum's room with Latte and we go to sleep, I think I've been pretty good actually. Tilly and Ons have been nice to me but Flash my coolie brother is a bit jealous but I give him kisses so he will come around I think thank you everyone for your compliments, I will get Mum to take more photos but she says she is the world's worst photographer

in the griffon thread and I'm rather cute even if I say so myself! Mum is hoping that I will be a top show dog, Mum has never shown before but I'm sure we will have fun! I have two brothers and two sisters here, I like playing with Latte the coolie best and my name Harvikgold Mocha in the Woods - Mocha for short this is me meeting my biggest brother Onslow

my Latte is obsessed with water but I will not let her play with the water bowl inside or the water bucket outside. She gets a sharp no for doing that and told to get away. The inside bowl has to be shared with the other dogs and cats and the outside one with the other dogs. She actually is now very good about not playing with the water bowl inside, the water bucket outside still working on that. There's enough mess in my house without her adding water to it, if you dont' want her to play with water inside teach her now. I have however provided Latte with a clam shell pool, she can go for her life playing with that and loves it. If you wanted to use iceblocks I owuld put it in the clam shell pool. the other good thing about having such a large amount of water is that if Latte does play in the water bucket hte other dogs have another source of water.

Calling A New Puppy The Same Name As A Dog That Has Passed Away.
Ons replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
When I was a kid the neighbours always had bull terriers and always named them Jock. I think they were up to about Jock No. 3. Again when I was a kid I had a shetland sheepdog called Gypsy, I think that's an awesome name for a dog and I may well use it for a dog in the future but many many years would have passed. I couldn't call dog after dog the same name, I like them to be individuals. -
what a gorgeous litter and a proud mum!

Petition To Make The Humans Pee Outside On A Cold Frosty Morning
Ons replied to 7464's topic in General Dog Discussion
Latte the 8 month old coolie here Now I live with two golden retreivers and they never seem to mind going outside to pee and the girl one even rolls around in the frost in the mornings nuts it's freezing, I absolutely hate the wet cold ground and when you have to go outside when it's raining forget that! no way! Mum tells me that i'm forever in my paddling pool no matter what the temperature is but that's different Mum! and sometimes if mum is not looking I run inside and pee on the carpet and blame it on the fact I'm only young So I'll sign the petition - Mum you pee outside in the morning in bare feet! -
If it's not a puppy and has no health problems I would be saying as long as the dog would walk for

Ons had a lump on his side which sounds similar like you, one minute he didn't seem to have it, the next he did I rang the vet up who is the closest vet but not my normal vet (she is 100 kms away) who said bring him in in the morning as we may have to operate I rang my normal vet who said just keep an eye on it don't rush into anything but within a couple of days it had gone down someone told me their rotty got fatty lumps which seem similar I will say though tLC if my normal vet was closer I would have taken Ons in for a check up immediately so I would take Cooper in for a check up hope all is well and stop googling all the bad things!

I hadn't heard him growl in his sleep before and then he just seemed generally lethargic and unwell but the good news is that he ate his dinner which was a bit of kibble with sardines in oil on top and now he is running around and tail wagging and happy as larry. I wondered if he was a bit bloked up and the oil helped move things along. I hate it when our babies are sick
