I keep seeing this now and thinking how unfortunate it is that your dog is a "bra-bacon" dog It's funny that you say this - Griffons are supposed to be notorious for their love of bacon although my fellow has never been given any. It all started from As Good as It Gets with the griffon in that - Verdell from memory - being fed copious amounts of bacon by Jack Nicholson's character. As for bras - I come home from work each day and Mochy has normally been in my dirty clothes and taken them all out to the hallway by the front door so he is familar with bras Thanks Saxon Pup! sorry the quotes were mucked up so I deleted them the above in bold was from Minxy's post

so how do you pronounce my griffon then? petit brabacon and griffon bruxellois many thanks :D
-
I just say Griffon, not game to attempt the Bruxellois part so do I my friend who is a toy judge pronounced it once and she did a good job, it doesn't sound like it is written!

I took the dogs for a car ride to see if the turkey shop at a nearby property was open so I drove up , got out of the car and wandered around looking for someone. In the meantime Tilly had got in the front seat and was blasting on the horn lucky no one was home, it would have been so embarrassing if someone had come down wondering why someone was being so rude beeping the horn Mocha at Inverell Show slipped his lead and was running around, thank goodness, an empty show ring, but was not in the world going to come back to me and be put in a crate, that was embarrassing as everyone looked on until someone came running over with chicken for him. Many years ago my maltese went paddling in Lake Burley Griffith and then ran up to a group of Buddist Monks and proceeded to jump all over them I was horrified, they just patted her and told me what a beautiful dog she was.

I can't even pronounce my dog's breed he is a petit brabacon - I have no idea how to pronounce the Brabacon part. Lucky they are not known as petit brabacons here but rather smooth coat griffon bruxellois (the bruxellous I have trouble with pronouncing as well maybe I should have just stuck to golden retreivers )

Barking - But Only When I Am Inside

if your mum considers that the sleepout is "outside" would a crate in the sleepout work for Kate? She might feel more secure in one. I don't think that she is too old to learn to sleep in one either. -
Latte sits on the back ledge and rounds up all the other cars Flash sits in the back but leans his head on my shoulder, I say to him "Constable (insert the local traffic cop's name here) will get you" and he automatically sits back in the seat I put him in a harness once that clipped into the seatbeat, stopped at the end of the journey and he jumped out, he had chewed through it Perry has not bothered chewing through - she just stretches her harness and seat belt as far as it will go. She knows a lot of the local police and is convinced that they are all her very best friends. my coolies know that their mum works as a criminal defence lawyer so that police shouldn't be their best friends mind you, Flashy would be jumping all over a police officer for a pat if he met one, Latte is a bit standoffish with everyone so she wouldn't discriminate

it's a matter as well of trial and error of finding what upsets your dog's stomach I have one that is very sensitive but she is fine if I'm strict with what she gets Lamb is the worse for her, upsets her stomach as well as gives her hot spots she is okay on beef bones, chicken wings, beef mince cookced with pasta and vegies. Surprising I have found she is fine with normal Supercoat but other dog biscuits can cause a problem. It's interesting to read what additional things I can give her if need be and I will take note.

When my parents go away vet nurses come in and stay at their place and mind the dogs and water the garden. Mum pays about $50.00 a day from memory to them. The vet nurses come from the local vet practice that the dogs go to. Normally it's the same girl but if she isn't availble one of the other vet nurses substitutes. It's another good source of income for the vet nurse, I wouldn't imagine looking after cavaliers Katie and Kyra would be too onerous for anyone, although other places might have more boisterous animals, and Mum is pleased especially because Kyra is very old and Katie a nervy girl that a vet nurse is looking after them. The vet nurses still go to work as normal of course. Just a thought for a bit of income to add to your vet nurse wages. Money does not equal happiness (I'm in a pretty low paid job because I like what I do) but then you do need a reasonable amount of income to live on.

he would have driven fine I'm sure being a coolie might give my flashy a go driving the car one day but he probably wouldn't coz "it would be naughty, I don't have a drivers licence Mum"

1. obedient and easy to train 2. can self entertain when no one is home 3. friendly to people and other dogs 4. affectionate 5. go with the flow the above is a combination of all my dogs - coolies, golden retreivers and a griffon, all my dogs are really okay with 2, 4 and 5, the coolies are good with no 1 and the goldens with no 3

I have a little red smooth coat griffon Harvickgold Mocha in the Woods Out of the 3 shows we have entered, he has won four baby puppy in breed and at Inverell won baby puppy in group I was so excited! I still have the ribbon on my fridge and received a gorgeous little Maxwell and William china plate that really he should be having his dinner off but I use He is now in the puppy class but I haven't entered him in any more shows for the moment, he has a few problems with mouth development, but I'm hoping that this will sort itself out as he grows a bit more and two of his baby teeth need coming out. The rest of him looks great to my untrained eye. I love showing,he is my first show dog and I hope to get a couple more show dogs I'm on a waiting list for a rough coat griffon from Mocha's breeder.

I used to think crates were cruel too that's until I started fostering and all foster dogs slept in crates at night, gave my own dogs a bit of respite and the foster dogs loved the sanctuary and safe feeling of the crate Now three out of five of my dogs are very used to crates whilst the goldens have been in them and been fine when Flash had to be confined for a week due to an injury because he was crate trained he was fine about staying in the crate and wasn't stressed at all, obviously that assisted in his recovery Latte is the only one who sleeps in the crate regularly at night, at bedtime all the others get a treat except for her, she runs full bore into her crate, gets several treats, eats them and then settles straight down to sleep without a murmur. Otherwise she would be running around ripping up the furniture, chasing cats and stirring up the others, much safer for her to be in the crate and she can have a good recharge of her batteries. Last night when I went out I wanted to leave Onslow in the house because of the storms but won't leave him unsupervised with Mocha, Mocha went in a crate with his dinner and stayed there until I got home. I can also give Mocha chicken wings in his crate and it doesn't matter how long he takes to eat them because he can eat them without the others hovering around him trying to take them off him When I go away at Christmas with Mocha I'll take a crate for him to sleep in at night, he sleeps in one at my friend's without any problems. I am a huge fan of crates now

nope not being anal at all, you want the best for your animals I'm wary of vets, I swear that my cavalier was misdiagnosed despite me saying that something was wrong, at that time I was living in a small country town only one vet. It wasn't until she was dying that they said they better run some tests, by then it was too late I take my dogs to a vet as she is a friend, lives 100 kms away. Emergencies I take them to a local vet clinic and although I seem to have a different vet each time I have found all to be good. When I got Mocha my griffon I decided to take him to the place where his breeder goes as he just needed a vacination and I didn't want him to keep going to different vets and I couldn't get over to my friend's. I had been to that vet before but didn't think much of them and after that visit nothing has changed. Although my breeder swears how wonderful they are

are brittanys generally more active than golden retreivers? I know every dog varies on activity level, my male golden is far less than active than my female but on a general basis? -

I met the lady who has Wamika Brittanys at Inverell Show recently. She was very nice and very helpful because I asked her a few questions. Interestingly they were bred to be "nannys" for the children of French peasants and I overhead a gentleman tell a family who was looking at the brittanys to never lift their hands at a child whilst a brittany is around because of this. It's a breed I am interested in too so will look forward to the outcome of this thread -
no, no, no yesterday on my dog walk the magpie looked like it was going to attack me so I went another direction and then a plover started attacking me so at the moment I don't like dog walks at all but I normally do provided I don't get lazy and decide I can walk 4 dogs at once, that I don't enjoy. The two coolies together think it's a race as to who should be first. So I go on two walks now and really enjoy it

oh my gosh, how awful for you Jodie, I'm sorry to hear such sad news. Thinking of you and sending you hugs.

In the USA I know of, from a Forum, a person who owns golden retreivers. The golden retreivers go on circuit with professional show handlers and attend heaps of shows for months at a time. I am presuming that they are paid for their work. I would miss my guys too much I have seen professional handlers at Gunnedah, or been told they are professional handlers but have no idea of cost or anything.
