  1. Oh no Poor Toby, he just can't catch a break! I have a spare Lab looking for a handler if one is available? Well I jogged/rowed/cycled a total of 8kms at the gym last night and it was only my first session! So I may be fit enough by the time it comes around! Great job RallyValley, I was able to fit in 2days x 4km (fast walking only through) with new baby, pram and ET candidate at foot...still a long way to go, but once up and about you'll be surprised how easily you will steal the time somewhere in the day
  2. YEP......ME! (and Dominic) this year, then ME and Dexter next year!!
  3. OSOSWIFT are you doing the ET this year here in Perth?? If so....then there will be more then 1 whippie
  4. Quick question...any additional advise would be great. Training for the Perth ET, with only 7wks to go (we had a couple of hold ups on some weeks with the family comittments) we are comfortably doing 6-8km (does have a 1.5km hill incline) at 10km/hr with recovery (within 4mins of arriving home ) at Heart Rate 96 and temperature of 38.c We train 3 days with the bike (no problems there) and 2 days fast pace walking. For those out there who have done the ET (this is my first) does it appear we are doing OK, or with limited time will we need to step up the pace? with 7yr old whippet in tow
  5. Congrates to all that made it to the competition. Any results anyone?? :D
  6. Does anyone have any Grp 4 results from Friday night? I was entered, all packed and ready at 4.30pm to go, but the call from a friend about a fire on a back road behind my place (with those lovely howling winds) made me quickly reconsider leaving homebase! Wanting to be down on Monday.... nothing holds me back
  7. Yes, I too will be braving the heat on the Friday and Monday Just noticed the DWD will be on under the Pavillion on the Monday, might have to find the time to go and have a sticky beak
  8. I realise the time frame from when you decide to train your dog to a competitve stage can vary on a number of factors, but I would like to get a general idea on how long it took some of you from when you started training to when you actually competed. In any of the sports, obedience, jumping, agility, tracking etc would be appreciated Smiles :p
  9. Myotherapy - is probably the other name used. It a practice used for locating Myofascial tigger points and dealing with referred pain. Basically with each injury that a dog (also used in horses and people) there is usually a deeper reaction to muscles located in a different area to the inital trauma/impact, then over time it never fully repairs and can impair movement and function. This kind of therapy involves locating pain points, use of needles (as with acupuncture) and allows for release of associated muscles and with the follow up of certain massage therapies and mobilsation of limbs whilst also using heat, it helps repair any areas of concern I have had it done for a few different cases. The most impressive one was a show bitch that seemed to have a 'hitch' gait on her hindleg, with no pain, xrays shown no trauma/injury, anti-inflammorties had no affect. It was intermittent.....always making it more frustrating. After a visit to Liz Franks, assessment and four weeks of followup treatment, both at home and in clinic....PERFECT gait!! :D It was referred pain from higher in the hindleg, with an injury possibly incured as a youngster. Never had a problem since. There are alot of supportive therapies out there. I have found the perfect one that suits me and my team...but alas now cannot find another practising therapist..hence my topic enquiry
  10. Does anyone know of the whereabouts of Liz Franks? She used to work out of the Vets near the Zoo doing Trigger Point Therapy, but for some reason no-one at the clinic can seem to get in touch with her. If she isn't practicing anymore, can anyone recommend anyone else in Perth who does TPT? Cheers
  11. I have a 7mth energetic, structurally sound, and outgoing young Whippet. Bred to show, but he wants so much more to do......kinda doesn't have a 'stop button' Ideas on what we can do, particularly due to his personality and age would be appreciated. I very interested in sporting such as jumping, agility etc (he would LOVE flyball, but to no avail here in WA) My main question would be in what order....I am worried I will become to over anxious and, myself, dart off in too many different directions of challenges for him. I do recall a previous post on dogs learning 1 or 2 disciplines/sports at a time.
  12. I'm sure many of you out there have, at one time or another, spoilt your four legged friend with a birthday cake on their special day. ;) Anyone have a 'safe' recipe they are happy to share.....my old girl turns 9yrs and would like something different to the rump steak or bone of previous years
  13. I just saw on a webpage for Noreen Watson (Whipridge) that Flynn has qualified 3 times for JDM and 4 times for JDO... Does anyone know how old Flynn is? What an acheivement.....that will be hard to match if anyone out there in the Whippet world is game!
  14. What does "JDM2 JDO2" mean? I know the Jumping Dog Masters and Open, but does the number '2' mean the title has been earned twice over?
  15. I am trying to find out who the 'most titled' Whippet is here in Australia It is obviously more from a sporting perspective, though any conformation title in front is added bonus. Anyone out there know of any?
