Travel Advice / Boarding Kennel Recommendations In Cq?
wayrod replied to Keyarna's topic in General Dog Discussion
As Showdog has mentioned, travelling with you on either Qantas or Virgin Blue Airlines. Note: If you are travelling with Jetstar and Tiger Airways they do not transport pets. (from Virgin Blue website) (Qantas rates should be somewhat similar) Australian Domestic Flights The pet and container will be weighed and the fee charged according to the combined weight of each pet and cage. Fees are non-refundable, and payable: Per sector (a formal connection is classed as a single sector). Per container. On check-in of your pet. Size Weight Fee (AUD) *GST Inclusive (Includes pet weight and crate weight) Small Pet 0 - 10 kgs $55.00 Medium Pet 11 - 20 kgs $75.00 Large Pet 21 - 30 kgs $100.00 Extra Large Pet 31+ kgs $100.00 + $4.00 for every kilogram over 30 kgs So the only thing extra would be crate hire each way which depending on the company that you hire from would be approx $55-$80 each way. A lot cheaper than air freight. -
I had surgery last week, on a couple of fingers and thumb on my right hand. Having physio and they have broken another finger, so more surgery next week! and more delays, especially in typing with left hand only so please accept apology if taking longer to respond to your requests. I believe I have now forwarded Pms to all people who have made enquiries re purchasing new crates. If you haven't received PM please make contact with me directly. Many thanks for your understanding.

It is not mandatory to have litter tray/drip tray. The Litter tray only allows for moisture to pass to bottom of crate whilst keping the animal dryer.

Spoke with manufacturer this morning, the New PP10 & PP50 available shortly 7-10 days, I am awaiting on prices and delivery. PP50 takes dog weight up to 20kg. •PP10/PP20/PP30/PP40/PP50s are made of high quality plastic, which are strong and durable. •Beautifully designed with a flexible cage lock, generously sized water bowl, funnel and litter tray. •Can be used as a kennel as well as a portable carrier. •Dimensions: PP10 33 x 33 x 48.5 cm PP20 37 x 37 x 52 cm PP30 43 x 45 x 62 cm PP40 44 x 53 x 73 cm PP50 56 x 60 x 82 cm All of these crates have been airline approved. I will let you know as soon as available. Dumb question, but what do those people with large/giant breeds do when the have previously transported their dogs in wire crates of the following dimensions? And that there dog needs this length, width, height to be able to turn around. And, if you cannot use collapsible crates, what do you do if you have a car that crates of these size won't fit into? XLarge 110cm 70cm 80cm XXLarge 120cm 75cm 85cm The larger vari and wire crates are still available to be used, as long as they meet the requirements. As for transporting crates to and from airport, that could be a little more difficult, as such hire crates for the larger breeds will more likely be the norm than privately owned crates.

These are new regulations/standards set by IATA. (air transport association) not the airline. Airlines around the world must meet these requirements in order to keep IATA membership. Even wire hire crates must have external handles for handling crates without fingers entering animal housing area, hopefully some of the old, disgusting wires will be gone forever!!

Rottsup: This may have occurred due to WACA allowing for the additional prefix (same breed) as no litters had been registered under the original prefix. A number of years ago at ANKC conference and administrators conference it was attempted to only allow one prefix per membership, no matter if it involved one breed or multiple breeds (this was attempted in order to identify the number of ?”puppy farmer” members that may have been registering puppies via ANKC member bodies), unfortunately at the time the computer system as well as individual requirements of each state did not contribute favourably and the matter was placed on a backburner. Had there been one set of ANKC Rules/Regulations and not requirements of individual states then this may have been achieved. The requirements for the ANKC National Breeder Registrar prefix approval under part 10 of ANKC Regulations are: Note: Where you see (10/00) this indicates that that paragraph/regulation was altered at that month/year. REGULATIONS PART 10 NATIONAL PREFIX REGISTER (Revised 7th June, 1991/Approved 1st November 1991) Amended May 1998 October 2000 May 2001 October 2001 May 2002 May 2004 January 2006 March 2010 AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL KENNEL COUNCIL REGULATIONS FOR THE CONDUCT OF THE NATIONAL PREFIX REGISTER 1. Each ANKC Member Body shall receive applications for registration of prefixes, from members residing in the State or Territory under their control, and shall forward them to the National Prefix Registrar for processing. 2. The National Prefix Registrar shall deal only with the ANKC Member Body and shall not enter into discussion, or correspondence with any person without the express approval of the Member Body through which the application was lodged. 3. The applications shall be submitted on the prescribed form, and shall include two (2) alternative selections of names in order of preference. 4. A prefix name application is accepted by the National Prefix Register subject to renewal annually, in the State or Territory in which it is registered. 5. An annual maintenance fee shall be charged for all “prefix” on file in the National Prefix Register as at 31st March each year, or such other time as resolved by the National Prefix Registrar. The fee shall be as prescribed by the ANKC Conference from time to time. 6. A prefix which remains in the Register, and is shown as unfinancial for five (5) consecutive years, shall be transferred to an “inactive file” for a further period of five (5) years, after which time the prefix will be eligible to be reallocated as a prefix. (10/00) (Note - The animal registration system requires that where progeny have been registered bearing the prefix in their name it is essential the prefix not be purged from the file.) 7. A Prefix name shall: (a) be limited to one (1) word consisting of not less than four (4) letters and not more than twelve (12) letters; (03/10) (b) not include numbers, whether in numerals or words; © not include apostrophes, hyphens, or punctuation marks of any kind, however no restrictions shall be placed on the use of the words “von” or “vom”. (d) not include names that are misleading as to sex, or relationship, or any word which may be considered offensive including Surname/First Name, Common Dog Name eg: Celtic – Phoenix. (01/06) (e) not be identical to, or similar in spelling, or phonetically, to a prefix name already registered, which could be deemed to cause misunderstanding, or confusion. Wherever possible, prefix registered with Canine Controlling Bodies overseas shall be protected. (f) not include the name of any breed of dog. (10/00) 8. A prefix name, once accepted and registered shall not be altered, or amended in any manner whatsoever. The name may be cancelled and a new name submitted, however, the new name shall be deemed to be a new application, and processed as such. 9. Where a prefix is jointly owned by persons residing in more than one (1) State and/or Territory, the use of the prefix in each of the States and/or Territories in which the joint owners reside is permissible without transfer, providing the prefix name is registered, and maintained, in each State and/or Territory in which the prefix name is to be used. The registration procedures in each State or Territory in which the prefix is to be used shall apply for all registration purposes. 10. Appeals Where an objection is raised to the registration of a prefix name, the objection must be in writing, and lodged with the ANKC Member Body in the state or Territory in which the objector resides. (a) Where an objection is raised to a prefix registered with the ANKC Member Body in the State or Territory in which the objector resides - the objection shall be considered by that Member Body, and the decision of that Member Body shall be final. (b) Where an objection is raised to a prefix registered with the ANKC Member Body in another State or Territory to that in which the objector resides - the objection shall be referred to the National Prefix Registrar who shall consider the objection and decide what action, if any, be taken. © Where a Member Body is unwilling to accept the decision of the Registrar, the Member Body may lodge an appeal with the ANKC Administrator for consideration by Delegates at the next ANKC Conference. The decision of the ANKC Conference shall be final and binding on all parties. 11. The applications may be submitted by mail, or fax to expedite delivery, and notification of acceptance or rejection shall be returned, wherever possible, within seven (7) days from the date of receipt. 12. The National Prefix Registrar shall, wherever possible, ensure that the person in control of the Prefix Register is conversant with Prefix names, to ensure the integrity of the file is maintained. 13. A membership may only register one Prefix for a particular breed of dog, but that Prefix may be used by the membership for other breeds. (05/02) “Membership” – any category of membership which under the Rules of the Member Body is entitled to register a Prefix.

If exhibitors who arrive early parked nose in towards the ovals fence they would get in almost twice as many vehicles around the outer. This may help ease some of the congestion. It seems to work well for the football crowd.

And so you should be worried! There are other variables to take into account as well as the actual flight. e.g. Who will be transporting your girl to the airport? Who is collecting your girl from the receiving airport? What type of crate your girl would be travelling in? What measures have been undertaken to make the journey as comfortable as possible? eg Frozen water bottle placed in back of crate which your girl could lick the condensation for moisture; are some that come to mind. Another item to consider is the option of road transport vs air transport. (8 hours vs 1.5-2.0 hours) possibly in the same weather conditions. As Diva has pointed out it is only a short flight, but that shouldn't stop you from taking all precautions. During times of extreme weather (heat mainly) flights would be arranged to take advantage of transport during the cooler parts of the day. Common sense should prevail.

Sending out of Perth to Melbourne is normally cheaper than flying into Perth. More freight goes into Perth than leaves Perth so outbound freight rates are cheaper. As a guide Airport to Airport (16kg-pup and crate total weight) Perth-Melbourne Pup in new (purchased not hire) PP40 crate $155.00 whereas Melbourne-Perth the price would be around $175.00. Obviously the heavier the pet and crate being transported the greater the price variance. As for flying out of Canberra, you are limited to Qantas/AAE as Virgin do not fly unaccompanied outbound pets. AAE can be a bit pricey to forward pets out of Canberra. Geez! I'm I reading this right, that sounds way too cheap.I enquired last Christmas about sending my roughly 18kg bitch to Melbourne for a mating and was quoted $600 odd each way. Who do I contact about getting my dog transported for these rates and more importantly are they good at looking after the dogs being transported. Based on the information that you have provided: Airport to Airport (18kg dog + crate (allowing approx 17 kg-for either wire of vari kennel)=35kg) Perth to Melbourne $261.00 including crate hire of $55.00 Melbourne to Perth $424.00 including crate hire of $55.00 Note: If your dog could comfortably fit within a PP40 or the soon to be released PP50 crate-82cm x 60cm x 60cm) significant weight reductions can be obtained and lower the prices further. If you have a few dogs and look at a fair amount of transport think about purchasing your own suitably sized vari kennel or PP crate, the initial outlay will be recouped with savings made on transport crate hire fees. Currently I sell new PP40 crates at $55.00. Prices of the new PP50 have not been released yet. Those rates sound so much better than what I got quoted, sending my girl interstate for mating may not be so far out of my reach now. Not sure of the size of a PP40 but the other one sounds like it would be extremly large for her, she is only about 18 or 19 inches at the shoulder. Is it OK to send you an email Wayrod to get a contact number? Not sure yet when I can send her (seasons and my finances aren't always regular).but would like to be ready to use your great rates although I understand these may vary by the time I'm ready. I have forwarded an email to you with contact details. Talk to you soon!

I believe if we alter the consitution as allowed for under 1.7 then Management Committee would have no option than to follow those instructions/intent, afterall it is the Consititution that gives the Management Committee their powers now. We just have to arrange our wording to be very specific as to what we want of members of Management Committee in order to ensure that the right intent is obtained, ie instructions from the members, is followed. 1.7 ALTERATION OF CONSTITUTION (As amended 14.1.93) No alteration to this Constitution shall be made except by a Special Resolution passed by a majority of not less than seventy five per cent of the number of members of the VCA who, being entitled to do so, attend and vote personally on the resolution at an Annual General Meeting of the VCA or at a Special General Meeting of the VCA convened for the purpose of such resolution and notice of which meeting, specifying the terms of the resolution and the intention to propose and move the resolution as a Special Resolution, was given to all members of the VCA at least twenty one days prior to the holding of such meeting. Any alteration to, or recision of, a Rule or implementation of a new Rule shall be of no effect until notice of such alteration to, or recision of, the Rule or implementation of the new Rule has been: 1.7.1 (Approved 13.4.99) approved by the Registrar of Incorporated Associations pursuant the Act; and 1.7.2 served on members by publication of the text of such alteration or recision, or of the new Rule in the next available issue of the VCA Gazette when the provisions of Rule 2.127, as to service of notice, shall apply. 1.8 In this Constitution no heading to a Clause or series of Sub-Clauses, nor any marginal notes or footnotes in this Alterations/Changes would also have to be made to Rule 2.97.3, 2.103 which relate to AGM as well as 2.107.5 and 2.112 which relates to SGMs to ensure that the Chief Executive as well as the Management Committee follow the outcome of the meeting, as long as the outcome is lawful. 2.97.3 At all Annual General Meetings of the VCA no business shall be considered or discussed other than that of which notice has been given on the notice convening the Meeting or any business which, in the opinion of the Chairperson, shall arise out of such business. 2.103 Special Resolution A resolution of members is a Special Resolution if it is passed by a majority which comprises not less than seventy five per cent in number of such members of the VCA present in person and entitled to vote and voting on the resolution at a meeting of which not less than 21 days written notice specifying the intentions to propose and move the resolution as a Special Resolution was given in accordance with these Rules. 2.107.5 (As amended 1.6.98) A member desiring to bring any business before a Special General Meeting shall give notice in writing of that business to the Chief Executive who shall include the business in the next notice calling a Special General Meeting given after receipt of the notice from the member. 2.112 Special Resolution A resolution of members is a Special Resolution if it is passed by a majority which comprises not less than seventy five per cent in number of such members of the VCA present in person entitled to vote and voting on the resolution at a meeting of which not less than 21 days written notice specifying the intentions to propose and move the resolution as a Special Resolution was given in accordance with these Rules. I believe Management Committee have a duty to follow the instructions/intent of the membership. We the membership give the Management Committee the direction where we see the organisation should be heading, the Management Committee have the responsibility to ensure that this occurs within the means of the Constitution, Rules and Regulations. The membership have the right to ask of Management Committee as to why actions have been undertaken and objectives have been met or not met.

The latest VicDog (October 2010) gazette section page 7 has this item under heading AGM-Notices of business from members: ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AGENDA ITEMS 3. A notice of business that directs or seeks to direct the management committee in any matter that is a power of the management committee [Clause 1.5 of the constitution] would not be a proper matter for an AGM, and therefore would be an invalid notice of business. I read into this that Management Committee will not be held accountable to the members nor will they take any advice or direction from the members. We have to change clause 1.5 of the constitution so that management committee will ultimately be responsible or accountable to members. If this item is allowed to remain, members as I see it will have no rights to question actions of management committee nor tell them in what direction they see that the organisation should be heading. The AGM earlier this year had submitted agenda items refused to be placed on the agenda, now it seems members have no option than to change the powers of section 1.5 and other sections of the Constitution to ensure that members can bring up items at AGMs and SGMs and to have detailed explanations of actions taken by management committee given to members. Lets have your comments, so that a detailed response can be made via agenda item/s at the AGM next year to let management committee know that they are appointed by the members, to serve the members, for the betterment of the organisation and in the interests of the members. A democratic organisation that now dictates what items can be placed as agenda items is not a democratic organisation.

Any member based organisation is only as powerful as the actual number of members that it has. Any membership based organisations foothold can be altered by rocking the areas where their membership $ come from. It is up to the general public not to support businesses that belong to particular organisations. Businesses that begin to feel there is no value in paying membership $$$ year after year with little or no return are not likely to continue placing their $$$ in their coffers. Memberships numbers begin to fall and their support both in the community and in government dwindles. The pet related industry is supposedly worth $4 billion dollars annually, imagine the taxes/revenue that governments receive, I do not thinks it is about votes but about the almighty $. As for Governments, they will change their legislation based on public pressure, the strongest and loudest will be heard. The squeaky wheel receives all the attention. So where can we direct our attention to: Should it be areas like: unethical and indiscriminate breeding. Make it mandatory for eye testing puppies, and hip and elbow dysplasia testing of breeding stock and the like, the added costs may become a deterrent. Alterations to the legislation so that members of an approved organisation (currently Dogs Victoria is one of five approved organisations) can have special priviledges like 10 breeding bitches in comparison to five if not a member of an approved organisation; or changes to planning legislation that limits where such large scale operations can operate from and under what strict terms. Dogs Victoria has a representative on AWAC, they are the committee that makes recommendations to the Minister of Agriculture, also a state election is due in Victoria around November now is the time to lobby politicians. Someone has also mentioned about the numbers, this is a grey area, Is it five on site (currently ten) at any one time? or five in total registered with the local council in my name. Example: lets say I have 20 bitches living with families elsewhere, they come back to me to be bred each year, yet for all intensive purposes I may only have one dog at home and these bitches come and go on a regular basis. Will the legislation cover this abnomality? So how can it be enforced if the legislation is not worded correctly. This has been a loophole area previously. Like any legislation there is always someone that will find a loophole.

As a guide: Total weight of 15kg (including crate weight for a PP40) would be around $75.00. Price not including crate hire/purchase if required.
-
That isn't always possible. And is so much more expensive to book them direct! One of our puppy buyers booked direct through AAE and was given a quote better than Dogtainers or Jetpets so they went direct ... I dropped the pup off and was charged nearly double (you don't pay beforehand) as they had miscalculated the size crate the puppy would require for the trip even though they were given the correct weight for the puppy! Needless to say none of us were impressed and I would never go direct through AAE for unaccompanied flights again. This is one of the problems with using Qantas/AAE, they charge freight including pet transport the greater of 2 ways: 1. actual weight; vs 2. cubic rate eg. Sydney to Perth (1x 9 kg pup) in a PP40 as actual weight you would be charged 9kg pup + approx 5 kg crate weight= 14kg whereas cubic rate would be based on LxWxH of crate size which equals 21kg. AAE would charge you on the 21 kg option. Pet Transport companies still usually work out to be the cheaper option to move pets airport to airport, it is a matter of shopping around for the best prices. Pet Transport companies can undertake your bookings and save you some money and by doing airport to airport transport if something happens and you miss the departure schedule then you can decide on alternative (in consultation with PTC) options better suited to you and your pup/pies.

Didnt know that. Thanks for the info but I would still use them as I have never had a problem out of Perth bar a mix up with crates but if I am getting dogs out of Brisbane I will not use dogtainers fullstop.End of the day its who is competitive in regard to pricing.Jetpets has always been good over here and no problems. The guy that runs it over here is very good. Can you tell us whats the name of your service? I've sent you a PM with the details. Hopefully you have received it.
