bite marks from wearing a bite suit -
D.A.P diffusers are great i have been using them for quite sometime in settling down puppys when they first arrive if you are after a diffuser i would buy a few in bulk as there permit to supply an unregistered chemical product runs out on the 20th of October 2006, (as far as i know they havent regained another permit) some places are very cautious on who they sell them to as they are only ment to be supplied to a registered veterinary surgeon for them to issue out on prescription. but a few places just send them out none the less

K9, Sardog, Erny, Herr Rott
Jeff Jones replied to MonElite's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
just throwing some more ideas around *maybe i should stop lol* just to make it easier for the trainers and more affordable for more dolers to attend have the camp go over 4 days, maybe a thursday, friday, saturday, sunday as that means people only miss out on 2 days off the working week. 7 days is alot of information to take in aswell, say have training in drive on the first day, sar and tracking the next....combine protection and dog aggression in the one day, and have the final day as abit of everything ok im finished planning everyone elses holidays :D -
i think its fair the person who started the thread should ask
-
im sure if you all gave enough notice you could organise a training week with all the dol trainers... K9 force covering - training in drive Sardog covering - SAR and Tracking Herr Rottweiler covering - Schutzhund and protection work Erny covering - dog aggression issues :D ok i shall stop planning seminars for everyone now

i was going to type kris but thought that would be an obvious choice, kris and dennis share alot of dogs together but as far as IPO in australia goes i dont think anyone knows more than dennis even kris has said that but either would be a good choice
-
felix would be a good choice but i believe he is competing in some upcoming FCI and fmbb competitions, i dont fancy your chances in getting ed out but would be worth a shot you never know.. just throwing a few names around of Australian based IPO trainers. Danny Jagodic - Working Malinois breeder (he is the breeder of felix ho's dog) danny is a former military dog handler from holland he set up australias first KNPV training club. experienced in training dogs for all protection sports and detection work Dennis Gallacher - Working German Shepherd breeder former military dog handler from the UK responsible for setting up Schutzhund in Australia responsible for bringing the best working line shepherds to Australia if you would like for an IPO trainer from outside of aus tho i would be able to help you out ETA: what do you want the seminar to cover?

Australian Schutzhund Champiionships

the law also doesnt state it can bite a ball... it states or thing in its mouth....as a law enforcement officer ( ) it is no good for you to quote legislation if you have no idea what it means... please tell me the legal meaning of "thing"... as i can tell you are deeply concerned with the training of these "attack" dogs...why dont you get a group of your ACO chums together and go down to one of the 2 recognised schutzhund clubs in QLD and stop us monsters training these out of control manstoppers....i look forward to seeing you there... so technically you cannot get your dog to fetch a ball as it is holding a "thing" in its mouth.....rightio...off you go to your local park to enforce the law officer probably the same thing they have been saying for 20 years.....you show me a schutzhund competition in australia that has been closed down due to it being illegal to have a dog attack someone, or a schutzhund dog that has been declared dangerous for that matter... seeing as you are in queensland why dont you take it up with the head developement officer of the queensland police dog squad who has been competing in schutzhund for 15+ years, let me know how that goes... Kavik, last year it was a german shepherd who won: Marko z Blatenskeho zamku was the german shepherd for the 2005 comp. and felix's malinois corvette came in 2nd but this year i think Bryan Vom Haus Mecki (malinois) won, -

to the dog it is not attacking the person it is biting the prey item which happens to be a sleeve...the same as many of you people train your dogs to bite the ball on the ropes and rags...the dog isnt focused on the person but the movement of the sleeve and the commands from the owner to bite the sleeve, Schutzhund training isnt personal protection training far from it, i own 2 schutzhund trained dogs and 2 Personal protection dogs.....i wouldnt expect my schutzhund trained dogs to protect me in a dangerous situation any more then i would expect a untrained dog to, Reality bites, i think it was a belgian shepherd that took out IPO3 not a german shepherd..from memory it was bryan vom haus mecki? its now called IPO not Schutzhund in Australia, edit to fix up jibberish -
Prey Drive Control & Focus..
Jeff Jones replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
if as you said working a dog in security automatically has the dog declared dangerous and not the training...why would the council or police give a hoot if your dog is protection trained if it was never worked in the security industry? i cant think of a working line dobermann breeder in victoria that doesnt either own or manage a security company, yet there dogs are not declared dangerous...so i dont know why there was fuss around your dog... -
Prey Drive Control & Focus..
Jeff Jones replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
i dont know anyone who owns personal protection dogs or schutzhund trained dogs who has declared there dogs as dangerous, otherwise at schutzhund competitions you would have to have your dog on lead the whole time and do the bite work with a muzzle on your dog...kind of defeats the purpose -
sorry where i typed "yelp" i ment to have the person say "ouch" still doesnt matter what the person says as the person isnt going into submissive behaviour...the person gets up and walks away....without paying any further attention to the dog, which is not submissive behaviour... anyway this is going off topic now as the op has figured out why the dog is doing it and putting in measures to stop the dog from continuing on with this behaviour, good luck with your pooches and what ever method you use
-
i realise this has worked for you but becoming confrontational whilst a dog already has its mouth over your hand isnt where i would want to be. growling at the dog illicits a response of either backing down of escalating the situation....depends on the dog and how the dog percieves the growl where as "yelping" or saying "no" whilst you pull your arm away and ignoring the dog avoids any confrontation with the dog and the dog is unable to get the desired response from you
-
what has worked for you will not work for every dog in "similar" circumstances, and i believe growling at this dog is dangerous advice, at the moment the staffy is mouthing peoples hands as it gets there attention eg. staffy places mouth over hand, the person moves the hand out of the staffys mouth and places there hand on the dogs head the dog sees it as every time i put my mouth on the persons hand i receive a reward whether it be from the voice of the person saying yuck dont do that...or a pat on the head what would be a safer option and less confronting to the dog would be once the dog places its mouth over the persons hand have the person either "yelp" and pull tghere hand away or say "no" and pull there hand away and ignore the dog untill it has calmed down then once the dog has calmed down proceed to pat the dog...if the dog places its mouth over there hand again follow with either a "yelp" or a "no"...then ignore the dog untill it has calmed down again edit for typos
-
i would not recomend alpha rolling or challenging the dog as it is resource guarding that is just asking for trouble... i would tell your friend to seek help from a qualified dog trainer im sure someone on here could help find one in your area

i wouldnt feed the food to my dog, mainly because of ringworm and salmonella, if he hasnt had nutro before i would buy another small bag of science diet and mix the nutro in increasing the ratio untill the bags empty.

Rspca Investigates Dog Squad's 'cruelty'
Jeff Jones replied to phatdex's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
the police have not broken any law in using the e-collar, its just another stupid dramatization by the media NZ has had a operational dog squad longer than any state in Australia, NSW got there first police dogs from New Zealand (one was a show dog who would lick you to death ) NZ Police use e-collars.... in October there will be a conference held in NZ by the Police Dog Section and there will be a day dedicated to the use of Prong and E-collars, Inspector Brendon Gibson who is in charge of the Police Dog Training section and Professor Kevin Stafford who is professor of animal behaviour at Massey University Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences, will both be giving a talk on recommended training implimentations, so far theres noone lined up to give a talk on clicker training methods :D -
