Arya, The hose idea is great. It interested me as it is used by many handlers in Corrective Services and the NSW Police Dog Squad.

I agree with you Nekhbet but Schutzhund in Australia has already been up and down that hill many times. Unfortunantly Schutzhund is no longer what it used to be and is now just a glorified obedience test....the handlers of show ponies and public misconceptions have won. They have ruined what was once a great working dog test and turned it into...IPO.

Arya how old is the dog? I wouldnt be worried about whether shes from working lines or not if she has the right temperament go for it. It is hard to make a judgement on the dog without seeing her but the temperament and characteristics you have described do sound promising for her to train and trial for her BH. That is correct. Slightly Off topic. Where did you get the idea to use abit of hose as a prey reward?

I am with you Tony, I cannot understand how people come to that conclusion. And I do not like how many breeds of working dogs have been watered down to conform to such standards.

Are you going to take her down to WSDSC? I would take her down and see what they say. Is she your new pup? You sure do like having the odds stacked against you...training a female Dobermann from showlines for Schutzhund in Australia... Just stirring, but from memory Meinemann Mali is the only female Dobe to be born and trained with any success for Schutzhund in Aus. I would be interested to know how you go with her.

I agree with Erny. Depends on how much the lack of socialization has affected the dog. Generally speaking I would not get the pup though. It is hard to say without seeing the pup whether he will be a good prospect or not. I take it he is a Dobe?

I think Erny and Tonymc have a fair bit of knowledge with training horses.

How is she when she gets out of the car at a different location? Do you think it has to do with you putting the lead on her? eg: when she goes for a walk you put the lead on her, when she goes in the car you dont use a lead?

Unfortunantly there are no clubs in SA. You could always move down south though

I start my puppies on the tug toy as soon as I get them home which is ussually 8 weeks old, this avoids me having any problems with them biting/nipping anything that I dont want them to as they soon learn when it is ok to bite and more importantly when it is not ok to bite.

That is what I would do.

Basically it is a harness designed to be used whilst commencing bite work with your dog.

Dogquip I am sure Dogquip sell them, I cant find any of there catalogues laying around the house. Email in and ask for pictures/prices as they dont display them on there site.

You maybe allowed to train but you definantly wont be able to compete at trials.
