That's ok RnH!! you did miss out on yummy treats from Ptolomy though

I worked out this morning that I have been going to that same club training night on and off for 20 years!!! it does make me feel pretty old...

Mason I am so sorry to hear about your old girls *hugs* but as Rosie said, it's the greatest gift we can give them sometimes... Well we took James down last night - he was so so good and surprisingly focused since i've been doing some work with him. It gives me some hope for Ari!! James even did some heel work and some sits which is a stretch for him usually - hooray for smelly cheese! RnH i would take Hemi up a class - the last thing you want is for him to be bored. What I find is that once you know what/how far you want to go with obeidence, those group classes only take you so far... and you spend most of your time waiting around until you get to the more advanced classes while the instructors help the people who need more help. Another thing you can do is just use the group sessions to your advantage because of the distractions... start teaching more advanced stuff, if you think Hemi is ready for it, while you are standing around. ETA - SNAP RS!!

Fairly sure the fee is still $3, which i think it's reasonable (although to show how long I've been going there, when my mum started training our sparky, the same club charged $1 a session!). I don't know how much training I'll be doing tonight though... I have thought about starting Ari again in a structured obedience class, but i am not sure how she'll go. We've been working on focus, but she still gets so distracted. Maybe I won't bring her... perhaps I'll just bring James down for a visit.

As A Breeder, Are You Running A Business?
SparkyTansy replied to Puppoochi's topic in Breeders Community
I consider myself a person who has a hobby/passion. I do not consider it a business. However, I do respond to all my emails, and I am about to set up a website (to showcase my dogs). I don't expect people to be on my waiting list for a long time, and I am open with people about when i am expecting a litter. i don't beat about the bush and ask most people are they willing to wait or are they more interested in going elsewhere, as I am happy to recommend people sometimes. In my state, there are a high number of BYBs in my breed for some odd reason, as well as some registered breeders, so I am very wary of who i sell to and certainly don't try overly hard with anyone that sells themselves to me in the right way, until they start trying!! -
hey CnR, RallyVally, RS and i will be there... my friends are going down tonight as well, their first time with their first dog, a Beagle... should be interesting to see!! I've been told by my friend in Baskerville that the FESA update is wrong for that area, and that they are back at their home and safe...

Gumnut any more info? what about melding names of dogs, your names? places you live, places you love...

A colleague of mine and his family are basically trapped at their home in Roleystone as all the roads around them are closed

I believe that the intelligence factor is difficult to measure, because there are intelligence on different levels... Some breeds have intelligence in the way of tricks and biddible, "trainable" behaviours... Other breeds intelligence stems from being able to work independently to achieve what their master wants. These independent breeds are often labelled differently because their intelligence makes them less "trainable"...

huge congrats Gayle

RS have you tried 3 yet? To me, it was a big jump from two to three... and yet I think a jump from 3 to 4 would be easy!! I did 5 for a little while - was pretty easy.

Great news CC

Yes I'll be there singing showdog, but only if I win of course, if I lose I'll storm out of the ring, rubbish the winning dogs, accuse the winning handler of sleeping with the judge and then slink off home to wash the dye out of my dogs :D

What Sandra said...

2 is definitely enough... oops I have 3

Cheating happens and games happen, probably - but i'd say it is a very small minority and not half as much as what people think or say happens... newbies probably get more scared off with what they hear than what they see... in response to the OP, I agree with what CnR said

PD888 i feel like it's been ages since I've seen you! I'll have to come find you at the next show I'm at (which won't be for a little while i think). Buzz is not the first whippie i've met, but he is certainly the first one i considered smuggling under my jacket he is so gorgeous!! no advice from me on agility stuff - but hopefully some agility peeps can come along soon to offer you advice!! i am hoping to get started properly in obedience later this year after Ari's litter. she seems like she enjoyed the couple of sessions I did last year with her.

RS I haven't met her before and she just had a baby so not sure how often she is around these days but Whipitgood is also a WA DOLer who occasionally breeds. I'm sure she'd be happy to help.

jealous stupid far away WA

it really is the dumbest rule... i have read they get around most of the shows by charging for parking rather than an entry fee for the public, but it's pretty difficult to get around this. The fact that they are still legally docking working dogs in the UK means they shouldn't be limiting entries to dogs that AREN'T working examples of their breeds... what about the gundog demonstrations etc?!

happy birthday ososwift!! ;) RS I have a soft spot for whippets... ever since I met PD888s little guy and probably a little before then. I think i convinced my mum to get one when she's older and can't handle a wei anymore.
