  1. Lovely to meet you (properly) too CC Boxagirl and poo-fong well done at the open show!! boxagirl were you at canine on Thursday? I thought it may have been booker but I wasn't sure!!
  2. I originally had a preference for tri colour or blue belton english setters. I got my first Tri colour and he just happened to be show quality so started to show. I still had a preference for blue/tri when i waited for my next ES 3 years later. I waited for 1 year for the right blue or tri to come up before telling the breeder that colour was no longer important, as long as the temperament suited spartan's, he fitted into what i wanted, and he had show potential. I ended up with an Orange boy and have to say I will have either colour in a heartbeat now. In saying that though, I don't like them lightly marked/almost white but I wouldn't knock it back necessarily.
  3. ew... I have a bad memory of this type of bone. I bought some in a bag once, from a pet supply store. Went to give it to my boy and it was crawling with maggots. you cant get me anywhere near any of those types of bones.
  4. My mum's first weimaraner was from a registered breeder - but it was back when it was quite acceptable to advertise in the local paper (some frown upon it now but I dont see much issue with it)... since then, all our dogs have been registered, however, none of them before Spartan were purchased "papered" because there was no rule back then that you had to register all the puppies from a litter. So technically, Spartan was our first registered dog
  5. So very sorry to read about the loss of Webster. Take care, Benshiva, and remember how much he loved you.
  6. If you are feeding a good puppy kibble, you won't really need to supplement anything else. i would definitely cut out the rice/pasta as that is just a filler... As far as i am aware, as long as it's not cooked fat, dogs are perfectly fine to have fat and digest it very well.
  7. buddy1 same with me. Mine went over 5 days - one a day - lucky me!! i only cried when the first one left - and that was because he was my favourite and I had (accidentally) really grown attached to him.
  8. it'll be your turn one year mirawee!!! it'll be a shame for us if we have a much smaller ring. it's only lagottos and weims that day and lagottos probably don't need as much space to move... kind of a bummer!!
  9. Just curious - it's terrier day but due to the gundogs being split, Weimaraners will be there for the day. thought it might be good to visit those who are competing in other stuff
  10. so is anyone entered for the royal (not showing) and is going to be there on Friday 7th?
  11. cut out the pasta/rice. it's not needed. A bit of fat is actually a good thing, so I wouldn't worry about lean mince. She will lose a lot of condition once the puppies come, also, so keep that in mind with what you feed. a lot of breeders that feed kibble usually substitute the normal kibble for puppy kibble. I added chicken mince/frames because I wanted her to have a natural source of calcium her body could absorb if required. Dogs eating the entire egg is better for them than eating part of it. Out of curiosity, if the puppies are just over 8 weeks when you are moving, would it not be easier to send them off to their new homes once they hit 8 weeks?
  12. Shaar - you do know, there is only one winner, right? what is the difference between a judge standing there, contemplating their decision between a few dogs they have selected in their head, while ALL the dogs are stacked up, and a judge that points to a few and gets them to stack up while the others leave the ring - usually after being thanked by the judge and applauded by those outside the ring? The only difference I can see, is that there is a lot more fluffing and fartarsing about by making all the dogs stack up while the judge deliberates between a chosen few. I simply cannot fathom how you can deduce that the judge is throwing out your BOB dog like it's rubbish.
  13. Surely he should have lost points for being Unpointerly? exactly what i thought!!!
  14. I would encourage her to be in the area where her whelping box is, and not allow her access in the ensuite if that isn't where you want her to have her puppies. I would spend up to an hour in the whelping box with my bitch a couple of weeks before she was due. I used that time to make sure I had all my supplies and paperwork ready. does she always eat that number of eggs or has her desire to eat them increased since she has been in whelp? perhaps her body is telling her what she needs. What diet is she on currently? I gave Ari whole chicken frames and minced frames as a major part of her diet.
  15. I did also wait until puppies were older - microchipped at 6 weeks and tattoo'd at 8 weeks, so I didn't apply for their papers until then. Unfortunately, I forgot to accompany the microchip paperwork when I registered the puppies, so their numbers weren't on their papers (but I made a copy for the new owners so they could transfer their puppy over with the microchip number recorded). I submitted my papers and paid for the fast tracking so that i could get the new owners to fill out the papers there and then, so i could make a copy and then I sent it back to them, but they did physically SEE the papers at the time they took home their puppy. This just can't happen with all litters - time, mistakes, and name changes/resubmissions can all mean delays.. for all the puppies i have purchased, I have waited on papers - between 2 weeks and up to 4 months.
  16. surely the body is going to work on it's own to digest the food... unless their systems are so inept that they can't digest things properly. I feed my dogs a mix of raw bones and mince/veg. I'm guessing the mince digests before the bone but it doesn't do them any harm. For my kibble fed dogs (2 of them) I feed kibble mixed with whatever they can have - for one of them, it's chicken mince. Not seen any issues.
  17. I remember once at a show, seeing the pointer breed being judged. there were birds IN the ring. All but one of the pointers were distracted by the birds. Was great to see. Unfortunately, the dog that was put up, was the dog that didn't react at all to the birds!!
  18. by 18 week old weimaraner will stalk and point - perfect. she met some guinea pigs the other week and pointed them very nicely, until they moved and then she ran in the other direction. if she caught something though, she hasn't quite got the understanding of bringing it back. her mother, on the other hand, is a hunter and I am sure she would catch anything and keep it for herself if she could, however if i told her to give it, she would. She is a natural retriever and swimmer and her instincts for hunting show if she sees a roo. Setters - well, mine, do not retrieve... let alone return anything. Both were birdy when young though - it just wore off as they got older.
  19. Maybe start on the Friday? I think there are some shows that are held on Fridays and occasionally our split shows start on a Friday night.
  20. i can try with weims but i will be depending on my vic contact to send me through results... i won't have numbers only names.
  21. I've gone a few times not washing mine before a show... but generally not... the setters were always bathed and the weims, most of the time. Always the OES, but only the whites, the grey parts are not washed except their feet and toileting... areas.. lol
