Guys no matter that the discussion is in the show ring - we are discussing the royal afterall. One thing I thought was a bit odd on Saturday, was that they allowed GP to sit in the conformation showing area after the showing had finished. I did think this was sort of odd, given they were eating etc.

I would say the highlight of my day (even over having to run through the crowd to get the irish to the ring) was wanting to deck a woman who wanted to breed her english setter, and didn't care if she produced hip dysplasia, only to save the poor owners having to go to "all that trouble" of having to buy an ES over east. sometimes, no amount of kind explanation will do it, and I did lose my temper in the end. I'm just glad that there are so few ES in WA she'd have trouble breeding anyway. Just a note to other exhibitors, just be aware of what is going on in the ring - not all the breeds were called and the judging went rather quickly. I am looking forward to being judged by Eberhadjt on Friday with the weimaraners. Of course I'm not sure how we will go, but hopefully it will be an enjoyable day. I thought it was good to have the agility going on right next door. it drew the crowds. I do think that they should have given the agility exhibitors opportunity to sit in the benches, though... there is plenty of bench space and probably will be on most days, given the entry is down.

Interesting Conversation At Work Today.
SparkyTansy replied to Gayle.'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Just be careful if directing her to ANKC "breeders" of staffies - we know there are plenty of those about. I am known as the crazy dog lady at my work also. most people ask me for advice on various dog things. I have a friend who has been looking around to find a dog and I have talked to her various times about going to rescue or a registered breeder... the other day she came and asked me what my thoughts were on a "spanador" that was in the paper. I try and be as nice as possible when things like this come up but inside I am screaming at her because I had already spent that long talking about where to go to get a dog. I think i managed to talk her out of it, but I really do wonder since she didn't listen to me much during our other conversations. I agree, people do what they want to do and only hear what they want to hear. -
RnH I'd love to borrow royal curtains... will you be at the show on Saturday by any chance? I could get them off you then. Mim I hopet hat the corgi is found soon - how awful for the owners MG Poor Gibbs! Must have been very stressful!!!

There was a Bergamasco here?! wow. I've read somewhere or been told that the full corded pulik absolutely stink - not sure how true that is i've never been close to a corded one.

most puppies have a soft puppy coat I'd say... although in saying that, Lulu and JT's coats are so different - JT has a harder coat.

Oh yes, I agree, Diet definitely plays a part.

i used to bath spartan once a week, and once every two-three days on feet and face when his allergies were bad. he would be "pee washed" daily to keep his feathering in good condition and a conditioner was always applied to his feathers. when he was desexed, i found his yuck soft new fluffy coat was more prone to knots when he was bathed often, so i reduced the number of baths he had. it definitely would not be that way though, if his desensitising injections hadn't worked and he was as itchy as he was when he was younger. i wonder how water repellant a show lab coat is, being bathed so often, unless oils are added to make them shiny.

Things To Think About In Stud Agreement
SparkyTansy replied to Trisven13's topic in Breeders Community
I have seen an agreement that goes one step further, where the only one pup can be registered on mains, it must be kept by the owner of the bitch, but said pup cannot be male. Quite restrictive, if you end up with a litter of males. this wasn't in my breed though. I am not aware of it in Weimaraners at all but no doubt it's there between some stud owners. -
I have the same issue with getting through the setter coats RS. This shampoo is probably one of the best for lather that I have used. I am a mean owner, because I use the hose to bath my dogs!! i use one of those attachments where you can select different settings, and i use the shower type one, which gives quite a bit of force and really gets the shampoo out again.

RS, i have the BEST smelling shampoo that I get from the show shop at canine. The smell is devine - it's called Crown Royal Linky here - I use forumula 2 I find it best for the setters - because of the slightly longer topcoat than the weims, the smell seems to last 3-5 days, and i notice no doggy odour while they are drying (the weims are a different story!). it's not a cheap shampoo, but it's a concentrate and does last quite a while between 3 dogs, so it's worth the investment to me. I'd say with your girls coat length, it'd probably last just as long. it also enhances all colours - James and Spartan always look nice and bright and the orange on James coat is deeper and shinier than normal. i also don't use a conditioner anymore on the setter coats but this shampoo really does soften their coat.
-
This for me too... With two long coated boys, one of which is entire, and two weimaraners, I don't think i get away with not having a doggy smell... I don't like to bath too often because it strips their coats of too much oil and I'd frankly rather they have a healthy coat than a dry one. My weims i dont think smell much, but they always do when they are wet - i call it weimy smell. Poor Spartan is probably the worst - with his gut issues and ear issues, he very rarely smells good, even after a bath. I do try and wash the dog beds quite often.

What Colour Is 'liver': Cooked Or Raw?
SparkyTansy replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our standard states silver, mouse grey and roe grey. any departure from these colours, such as yellow or brown are serious or disqualifying faults. I don't think that the colour looks like cooked liver at all. Liver, brown, chocolate... same thing? What other breeds, besides labs, uses chocolate as a colour description? The only time I use liver as a description for weimaraner colour, is when I am explaining that the grey is a dilute of liver, as opposed to black, which produces blue. IMO if the lab is not meant to carry a "dilute" gene, then the "silver" labrador is not acceptable. -
Fordogs, I am so very sad to hear what has happened here. The family may very well have been perfect, but do remember that it is quite easy for a vet to spout a load of nonsense and scare the crap out of anyone. People put their trust into a vet and many do not question at all. I would be interested to hear the outcome of the xrays. if there were no xrays done, or the xrays come back quite normal, will you be taking any action?

hey does anyone have a spare royal ticket they would like to donate to me for Saturday? :D

I think it's a great idea. It would also produce trends regarding breeders/BYBs that consistently have dogs turning up in rescue/pounds. I definitely agree that the microchip paperwork needs to reflect breeder AND ANKC number to make it easily traceable. That means making microchipping compulsory across Australia. We also need consistent rules regarding handing out registration papers. At the moment in WA people are required to register all puppies but the puppies do not have to be sold with their papers.. Microchip paperwork being in line with ANKC paperwork would solve this issue of course.

Very Sorry to read about the lost puppy RJ... it can be so difficult... I had a puppy born in my first litter - fully formed, normal birth. I too played the "what if" game with myself but accepted it all rather quickly given the response from the bitch (which is different, because she had more than one pup she lost interest very quickly in the dead one).

if you do a search, i think this topic has been done before.

 yes, because it's quite common to see a pack of wolves or dogs smoking their kill for some added flavour, after a long day of hunting
