can anyone tell me who might have a mag on hand (or remembers), what date the Western Classic is next year? The showing part, mostly Thanks!!

I had a bitch come to me with ACT papers registered straight into my name... but I'm not sure if they paid the transfer fee and had the papers reissued in my name, before they sent the papers or if they put it straight into my name. I'd love to be able to put pups straight into owners name, and if there are any unsold puppies by the time you apply for the litter registration paperwork, they can go into my (the breeder) name.

It depends on what breed it is, and what you want them to do if you do come across another dog. I noticed a huge difference between a bitch who wasn't overly socialised outside her pack as a youngster, and her daughter who attended puppy classes and has done a lot more meeting of other dogs. The difference is astounding. I do not think that it is essential for dogs to go to dog parks where people just allow a free-for-all play with little to no attention on their dogs, because this can cause more bad than good. I believe that socialisation on lead, with other friendly, social dogs and occasional free run, but controlled, play, is essential for any dog if you don't want problems down the track.

I don't always show my bitch in season, but have on occasion at the bigger shows - Perth royal and the western classic at the beginning of her season, and the Weimaraner National in Adelaide when she was in standing heat. a lot of people were in the same boat however they did split the show - males day one and females day two, but i still saw people who had bitches in season walking around near the ring with the males to "spark" them up. I wasn't going to forfeit my entry, the hundreds of dollars spent on a plane ticket and transporting costs from Perth to Adelaide. I think that if there is a bitch that is obviously in season, and the judge has been told so, the judge would have to be pretty stupid not to put the misbehaviour of a male down to a bitch in heat standing in front or behind them, and make some allowances for a dog that is more difficult to show with a female in season nearby.

What brand were they Lab Rat?

I usually don't use bait but if I do I have one of those little bait bags you pin to your pocket. Usually, just the sound of the velcro has the dogs looking at me yay for foal Mirawee. LR we still havent met! and I won't be there on the 30th

They also changed the area so that the one place people could sit and watch the rings now has only 3 or 4 benches that are set so far back you can't really see much. I spend many a dog show when i was much younger on those steps, watching all the dogs in awe, long before I ever got into showing dogs myself.

This... My mum has a friend who retired in Spain from the UK, and she was appalled at the treatment of the dogs there. there are many strays and loose dogs and people tend to care very little for them, allowing them to wander the streets, mixing with strays and probably breeding because they aren't desexed. Her friend ran a rescue for a while but had to give it up eventually because of the lack of good homes available. I think she has 3 or 4 "foster failures" And yet in Germany I have heard that it is a privelige to own a dog and that many are very responsible. It is very difficult to get a Weimaraner in Germany and it is restricted only to people that will hunt with the dog. You must apply through the Weimaraner club and the club breed wardens make all the decisions about which dogs to breed and who gets one.

Finnish Lapphund Breed Open Show - Sun 11 Dec Kcc Park Vic
SparkyTansy replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
it sounds very positive! We have fantastic interstate support from breeders and the other breed clubs in our own, developing breed club... in fact we have more interstate breeders as members than we do breeders in our own state -
We had a huge winning BT in WA that won many best in shows (20 according to his profile). He was well known around every group and everyone loved him. He stood out as one of those once in a lifetime dogs.

Doesn't frontline also kill the fleas on the dog? I thought it was only Sentinal that doesn't kill the adult fleas... I agree use Capstar if Frontline doesn't do it. You may want to fleabomb too

Retrieving & Field Training Talk
SparkyTansy replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
TSD - it is definitely entertaining - it's the feet more than anything... they are big and heavy at this age and she struggles to keep up with the Brittany's and she certainly doesn't have their grace. On top of that, the large flapping ears do her no favours! zora looks like a little supermodel, and Lulu looks like her ugly large sister I really enjoy reading your entries about how Em is going. She sounds fab. Do you have plans to trial her next year or are you holding off? -
Contacting A Breeder/has Anyone Heard Of Them?
SparkyTansy replied to greyseas's topic in General Dog Discussion
Welcome to DOL Greyseas! I took down my puppy listing when enough people had made enquiries and i had chosen my puppy buyers, but this wasn't until they were about 4 weeks of age. If people did enquire after that, I referred them to other breeders that I knew had puppies still available. I would contact her... if the pups are born she may not have had time to contact anyone. It is possible, that if something has happened to the bitch or the pups she may be too upset to contact anyone, but if you contact her she may reply. -
That is gorgeous although the herding part not so hard to believe, if they were in fact derived from Samoyeds - aren't they a herding breed?

Neuter Ch Classes- A Question To Ask
SparkyTansy replied to InspectorRex's topic in General Dog Discussion
In wa same thing - only one class offered for Neuter... we had 4 weimaraners entered both times, and both times in the catalogue, they were listed together after the entire breed was completed. The judges split them up into dogs and bitches and judged it as NDC and NBC then BNoB, but it wasn't listed in that order in the catalogue. I think the sooner more clarification comes out on the Neuter class, the more chance we have of clubs supporting the class. -
Since I started showing, I have watched and learned. some people gave me help and support when I started and i, in turn, supported and helped newcomers to my breed and even people not in my breed. I feel I have done my bit to give back to the dog show world, and yet, there are times that I feel that I shouldn't be there because of comments I have heard or general attitude from people that I have done nothing to. I have had a much better experience from Field Triallers and Retrieving people. They seem to acknowledge that their sport is reducing in numbers and they put effort in to help new people. Part of their struggle is one of space and time... trials have to be held further and further out of capital cities to allow for space (and birds)

Lovely photo Emery!!

Hutchwest I think is another one.

AP I know a couple of people with really curly hair... whenever they get it straightened, it looks so different, but they look gorgeous.

there are many reasons, I think, but one that hasn't been mentioned... the internet. Fantastic for networking with likeminded people and connecting, but do enough publicity and people know who you are, and how well you are doing, and maybe just sometimes, knowing who won the show last week or is consistently winning, will factor in the decision of the judge. *flame suit on* eta - i am not planning to give up on showing, but I have been picking my shows and I am just not as interested in it as when I first started... I take more pleasure now in other activities I can do with my dog, where, if I reach competition level, they are generally measureable and not open to one person's interpretation. i absolutely love showing, but it's different to how it used to be, and I only started 9 years ago.

Ohhh yay mirawee I love babies!!! I'm not in the show on the 30th but I think I'm showing the OES :D are you showing baby lappies.
