I think a lot of the blue/green shade pastel colours look great against many colours... by far my favourite colour to wear against my orange/white English setter was pastel green. I no longer show him, but the colour goes nicely with the Grey Weimaraners too.

Retrieving & Field Training Talk
SparkyTansy replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
yes, I would be interested in the RATG if it was at a retrieving trial... but I would say that you would probably get more people "giving it a go" at a closer location. I know that isn't as easy on the judges but it might bring more numbers and give more people a taste for a retrieving trial. -
Thanks Fay Certainly different to the setters that's for sure!

Here is a photo of Lulu, as promised

MG I recall you tested Mason with Chicken a while back and said he seemed fine... do his food allergies show themselves straight away? I only ask because if Spartan gets hold of any chicken, he has no reaction for 2-3 weeks and then it either shows itself as skin issues or diahorrea. when he was younger and we hadn't diagnosed the chicken allergy, he used to poo blood.

Promote showing: In our breed club we offer to help anyone that may be interested in showing. We have supported at least one person all the way to the showing aspect with her two ex-show neuters. She loves it and I hope she will consider her next puppy to be a show dog. In the last 8 years I have helped several new people into the sport - some have stuck around and some haven't. The ones that did are now heavily involved in the breed club we established and we are heading for affiliation in the next 12 months. I have also helped people not in my breed get started in showing, supported them at the start etc. i was a member of the Gundog Club committee but my committments became too much.I am an active committee member of the OES club (my sisters breed) and as said above, currently involved in the non-affiliated weimaraner club of WA. Through the club, we have a website, brochures which we hand out at events, an open Facebook page. We also arrange lots of weim meets, training days and have recently organised a lecture on bloat through the veterinary university, with a few more to come. I do go out of my way to help people but if they do not want to be helped I don't push it. I feel that there are a lot of people that do things for their breed and for the ANKC, and there are many that don't, but I don't think that the ANKC needs to promote showing, I think it needs to promote themselves, all our sports, the fact that we are the main body in australia that is for dogs, with a big push for pedigree dogs butnot taking anything away from the members who have not got pedigrees. We should be promoting responsible pet ownership, promoting registered purebreeds and the breeders that do it correctly, and we should promote our sports.

Breed specialty I'd say, but in saying that if it was an all breeds judge that is also a specialist I wouldn't be unhappy if I did well! We don't have any specialty's in WA for my breed, so I rely on clubs choosing good breed specialist judges now and then where I hope to do well.

all the best Boxagirl for today... yay for two steps CC my mums grey was the exact same they scream, too - pretty sure for attention lol My boys are incredibly stoic, though... maybe it's sooky lala labs *giggle*

MG I believe that Steve is a bit of a lab specialist, but he is generally just a very good diagnostic vet. He helped Faolmor with her lab at one point as he injured himself quite young.

When the other people applied for their prefix first, was it for the same breed as they have now and have they bred any of that breed under their prefix? I only ask because when I applied for my prefix, I put down English Setters as the breed, however my first litter is Weimaraners. If the ANKC didn't know that the people with the original prefix had the same breed, the ANKC might not have checked the breed when you applied for yours. If that is part of the basis for the withdrawal (same breed) you might have more grounds for appeal.

Have You Ever Opt For Your Second Choice Breed First?
SparkyTansy replied to Fleuri's topic in General Dog Discussion
if the second breed suits as much as the first, I'd consider it. I have two very different breeds and both suit me in different ways but I do feel that currently my second choice breed suits me at this stage in my life more. -
MG fingers crossed it's nothing else...

Congratulations to all the recent winners My beautiful puppy "Lulu" Belbracon Seeker Lover Keeper won Minor in Group at the Hills Kennel Club Championship Show yesterday under judge Mr P Andrews (SA) Photo to come

Boxagirl I'm so sorry hugs to you and your special girl. it's so incredibly difficult seeing them like that. MG I may have missed something but what is wrong with Gibbs?
-
Oso, HIS puppies would definitely be a challenge if any of his instinct is rubbed off onto them!! I've never seen a dog so intense on birds.
-
This - agree. Look at the new prefix names every time they are published to see the number of "BLUSTAFF" type names there are!
-
Oso I love Jenny's GSPs - I was dog holder at Sunbury the other week. I am in love with her Squiggy her Canadian Import although he is very very birdy and seems to have very little time for anything except the sky! AP i do agree with you GSPs are full on... more so than Weims even!! they are so gorgeous though and I love the roan ones i love stuff with spots!
-
This is true... at sunbury everything was so spread out a newb wouldn't know where to find anything or anyone. The information desk was out of the way and i dont recall seeing signs. Given this is one of the bigger shows in Australia it was all very segregated.
-
welcome Unuscornu looking forward to seeing some pics of your possible baby MBT! I love bullies and minis and met some at the perth royal this year and had a cuddle. they are such characters.
-
yay! Oso is gonna cross to the dark side *evil grin*
-
I'm kind of glad it doesn't. When I originally applied for my prefix it was for a different breed to the one I bred my first litter.

I have heard that numbers in obedience are dropping but i dont know for sure - not sure about agility though. I really like the idea of having the breed pinned somewhere onto gazebo's... more and more people have them now and it wouldn't be hard to put up a breed to show people - it woudl even make it easier for people directing others asking questions wehre they need to go if they are asking about a certain breed. Maybe I'll do it this weekend!

Boxagirl I am so sorry to hear about Bondi Gentle hugs to Bondi and to you... thinking of you both.

I think having a proper dog show may be difficult... best way to do it for an event where lots of people might be attending to watch would be to having someone telling everyone what is going on. I remember years ago, there used to be a "pets in the park" event. Similar to MPW where there would be a large range of stalls with products, food, plus they would have volunteer student vets, dog washers etc. The whole thing was aimed at people bringing along their pets but they had a lot of demos. One year i remember they had a pets parade and they had arranged through breed clubs for people to walk around in the middle with their breed... i only remember because i had a friend with Rotts who was in it. people also brought along their ferrets, etc - some even brought cats!
