So are most pups. But don't you have to train him to pay attention to you for obedience anyway? Showing is a good way to get them used to performing in public without the pressure of always having to be good If a baby or even minor mucks around noone really cares - well the occasional judge but most overlook it If you don't want to show then you don't have to. But don't blame it on the dog ;) The plans you have for him when he is older requires a much more disciplined dog than showing does We actually like it when Anikka does a few baby jumps in the ring when she is meant to be gaiting as it proves she isn't a robot and that she is having fun ;) Sounds like everyone had a good weekend Emery, you have to wonder why size is so important! The number of dogs who are overheight for their breed but still win big against equally good but in height dogs is amazing :p Totally agree - I spent more time in the class in show line up playing with Lulu than I did stacking her... migth have looked bad to some but I want Lulu to keep the beautiful attitude she has now. Anyway, the very seasoned (at 15 months) Jojo was an absolute terror last night. Even the best most trained dogs have off days. I personally prefer a smaller bitch (which is why I am begging Lulu to stop growing) in most cases. size within standard, of course, but I like big boys and smallish girls - so you can see the difference.

do Tracking emery I bet she'd love it. it's a good sport to start at any age. A friend with an 8yo weim started last year and got his first pass this year.

Well done Amypie!!! go Kyzer!! I saw you walking your guys on the bottom oval but when I was walking the OES I looked for you but couldn't find you around the rings. Mirawee it's fab to see the lappies being recognised and awarded at group/show level. You should be very proud!! JoJo got BOB last night - and he was an absolute terror in the group line up - he's never been such a fidget before!
-
Congrats Trisven!! Absolutely adorable!!! weims are born with stripes too

Congrats Mirawee and Anikka's owners she's just gorgeous.

dammit... I just culled some stuff off my list to get it under $200, and then added two more things bringing it back to where it was!

Hi Everyone - BIG massive congratulations to Mason, Ruby, Millie, Brookie, Strauss, Scooter and Jasper plus owner/handlers of course! You should all be so incredibly proud of your dogs - you do fabulous work with them and it shows that despite all the mishaps, bad trials etc, your dogs always come through and make you SO proud. I really hope that one day I can join you all in celebration with my own dogs... My weekend in comparison has been rather uneventful - went to a show last night and got DCC and RUBOB with Jojo, Charlie's son - his sister won BOB I also showed a Weim of a fellow club member last minute and won BOB with him This morning I took Lulu to the beach and met JT's owners there - Lulu had a wonderful time and did a LOT of swimming and running, met lots of other dogs and played with them all. She was retrieving to hand from the water (no shaking first 80% of the time) which was quite impressive!! Off to another show tonight to show Jojo again... it's so awfully hot and I'm not looking forward to it!! Even worse, this weekend has gone so very fast and I can hardly believe it's Monday tomorrow

P.s can someone with the last canine news handy tell me what days group 5 is on for this weekends shows? is it Saturday and Sunday?
-
Did everyone get their canine news this week? Mine hasn't come was looking forward to reading it when I got home!! Congrats Wazzat!!
-
I picked mine based on looks mostly and/or having met and fallen in love with them...
-
At the same time, can they move Aussie Shepherds to group 3 so I can do retrieving with one please? You make me laugh. Apparently there is a small push to add Std Poos to the herding list (not Grp 5 though) as they were all round farm and family dogs. Sounds like you'll have to start your own revolution with the Aussies Thanks for the feedback everyone, its interesting to get that insight. I'm considering (distant future) a foray into another breed, probably after another Collie S though. My challenge is picking the other breed, I have a front runner, but then I keep thinking....'what if'''. Interesting, I thought that the argument lay with poodles being put into Group 3!

Retrieving & Field Training Talk
SparkyTansy replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Speak for yourself RV Would you like me to send you Lulu for a week or so, so you can teach her hold? Maybe Ari too... I've never known another dog to hold something so darn loosely in her mouth. Lulu can steal anything from Ari with absolutely no effort. -
You have a point, I assumed just breed points as it's called Breed Challenge Competition. ETA I agree if the group points are added it has taken a step backwards. agree, if it's breed challenge competiion it should be challenge points at breed level only. The BIG/BIS points should be reserved for the showdog of the year only.

What Is The Most Popular Colour In Your Breed?
SparkyTansy replied to Esky the husky's topic in General Dog Discussion
With the greys I agree with whoever said a black Grey can scrub up best. My mum had a mostly black with white greyhound from GAP who was 5. She did grey quickly but her black was so wonderfully shiny once she dropped the fluff coat. I absolutely love the fawn greys, with dark pigment around their eyes like eyeliner, but one day when I get another grey, I'll take whichever grey suits me best as really, colour has nothing to do with choice, for me. -
not sure I agree with the point allocation for some of the other titles in the breeder of the year section... 100 points for a tracking champion but only 50 points for a field trial champion and a retrieving trial champion is a bit off... it is incredibly difficult to obtain a champion title for retrieving or field trials.

It will be policed the same way it always has, an honour system with people raising a concern if they believe a result was incorrectly entered. There are consequences for entering it incorrectly.
