  1. 2m is a fair distance back. Usually there are other dogs waiting around near the ring to go in, that are closer than that - at least in WA.
  2. could your boyfriend try desensitisation? A friend of mind did it for a year as they made the decision to get a dog. She is now fine and they just purchased their second dog. As for your dog I'd be contacting your vet regarding your dog not doing well on the food. I know someone that did kangaroo with sweet potato puree as the main diet. Keep in mind also it can take up to 6 weeks for previous issues to clear from their systems so it may not be the new food at all. That is why you have to take so much time on the single protein before reintroducing/testing foods.
  3. Well done everyone particularly those who gave their first trial a go!! RS - all I can say is... it's about time!! glad you did it!!
  4. I know of someone that was told at least 5 - she had 14. My bitch had phantoms every season up til she was mated, so while watching for signs, nothing was really different to normal, except one day when she was in a room with me and one of my other dogs tried to enter. She turned around and gave him the biggest telling off!
  5. F11 - what breed do you have? i think it's a personal choice with whiskers. I did it a few times for my English Setter and he hated it so much so I stopped. I don't do it for the Weimaraners.
  6. Not much to report here - I'm sick (again) with a cold this time, on top of a cough I already had. It sux and I'm feeling sorry for myself!! Saturday we went to tracking - Ari's second time ever. There were lots of dogs there as it was the first training day of the year. In amongst them was a big contingency of Weimaraners, about 10 in total. Our club is very proud as we arranged Trackwest to do a separate workshop for our club members this year.
  7. LR I think 3-4 weeks is my favourite age for babies. opening their eyes, stumbling around, without the sharp teeth!
  8. I would not show a dog of my breed with a disqualifying/non allowed colour. If i was passionate about having the colour allowed i would push for it in other ways through the breed club, presenting the case that the colour should be acceptable and why.
  9. I'd do the trailer on this occasion - just seems easier :)

  11. It is believed that above is the reason Old English sheepdogs were also docked (but there are some other stories, such as hygiene etc), however it is believed also that they did have a natural bobtail gene, which, as more and more OES were docked, became less selected for. A friend of mine that has been a breeder for over 30 years has never had or seen a litter with natural bobtails. Weims are for obvious reasons - hunters of large and small game, docking prevented serious damage to their tails whilst working. When i was in the UK I had a very interesting conversation with a breeder of GSP. She had a litter on the ground and all puppies tails were docked, due to the fact that she had 3 buyers wanting working gundogs (Becks mentioned this earlier in the thread). All that needs to be provided is a letter from the buyer to confirm they will be working the dog, along with the correct paperwork from the vet. Only one letter is required, so you could have a litter of 14 puppies with one going to a working home, and they are all allowed to be docked. These dogs, however, will not be allowed to be shown at any show where the general public must pay admission.
  12. I find it quite rare now that a judge will discriminate against a tail - even the judges from countries with docking... but yes it can happen. The outline and movement of an OES is a huge illusion - when they have a tail they no longer look like the cobby, square breed that they should be, and it takes a judge who knows what they are looking for and puts their hands on the dogs to really determine correct proportions. I have no issue with those who are importing from NZ with docked dogs etc - if they are willing to spend the money to do it, good luck to them...
  13. Wow, you have to provide certificates in WA for all titles (including Grands) or go in and go through the catalogues to show proof. yes but it is a lot easier to get the certificates you may have left behind at a previous show since they put them in the box at the office for you! One of the cool things about having most of the shows in the same location
  14. here you go blakbelgian - an OES with a tail :) in saying that... when OES are clipped off, it really is harder to guess their breed... they look as though they could be some kind of oodle!!
  15. well said Dyzney i totally agree with you, that it'smore about passion for the breed than the tail... unfortunately there are some out there that gave up breeding the day docking became banned. I could never quite see the logic there. I don't have a preference, and I'm used to tails on Weims now... but it's still cute to see that little stump going at a million miles an hour and their whole body moving with it, when i see a docked weim :)
  16. agree with everything that Mason_Gibbs has said. IMO vets are very quick to diagnose skin issues but don't know what the actual issue is. They treat the symptoms and not the cause and a lot of them don't refer to a derm so your vet at least acknowledges that you should go see one.
  17. Can anyone help me with entry for Brace Classes? Cost of the entry for "special classes" is $7.00. i want to enter brace class with two of the dogs I'm entering in regular classes. is the cost of the Brace Class per dog ($14.00) or one single entry for the actual class ($7)?
  18. woo hoo yay Mirawee!! Go Jive! I can't wait to meet her!
  19. Hi mishB - welcome! I wouldn't call it normal to go through a lot of show leads... usually you correct puppy not to chew the lead - not harshly, just redirect their attention to something else :) He will grow out of it, though, hopefully! Have fun at your first show training class - and i'll see you on the 5th May (no doubt we will meet, i sit with the owner of the only other Brittany showing in WA!)
  20. Assuming it's a silent whistle? I have ordered a few whistles and they don't always work... I've had at least 2 duds and I've got 6 whistles.
