Ours came with a divider... but it was a second crate so didn'tneed it anymore. As most people have said, a divider isn't always necessary, however what annoys me most is that this "dog expert" was offering the wrong advice on crating! Many people could be buying crates and taking his advice on how to crate your puppy and instead of it teaching a dog it will probably halt the learning experience!!

Thanks so much for your help. Yes the humping is still a major issue but i trust that MM has been doing everything she can to stop it... Char is very persistent!! Good point about the bathing... he did get a feather wash but not an all over bath so that might have been the issue there... I am picking up James today as it looks as though bitch has finished so hopefully it will help Charlie heal quicker. Thanks again for everyone who helped with the bleeding issue!

Settrlvr, if it is a case similar to your own dog (bursting blood vessels) would you say that the humping is what is causing the issue in this case? I knw he also does a lot of cleaning himself as well but this issue has obviously only happened since James, and the humping, has been happening. I am the sister btw.. James doesn't hump at home... from what I can gather, James initiates play which Charlie reads as something else and there is when the humping starts... Montage has been separating them and also picks the moments BEFORE and deters Charlie, when she is watching... however it's when she isn't looking and the opportunity arises that it starts.

If there are other dogs before you, it's a good idea to take notice of what the judge wants them to do, as this will vary from judge to judge... For example some judges like to see you go around first, then stack up for examination. Some judges like to examine the dog first, so take notice of where you need to go. If you are unsure (or you are first in the ring!), ask the steward where you need to go. It is ALWAYS a good idea to let the steward know it is your first time in the showring.

I have an ES who is allergic to chicken, but also shows a high intolerance for other fresh meats... namely beef and pork. He can tolerate lamb and turkey once or twice a week, but anything more and he will develop pustules which take weeks to clear up by themselves, or require a course of antibiotics to help him through. Although the other dogs are on raw, he is on a lamb based kibble that contains no chicken by-products or poultry meal... it took a really long time to find a balance for him and resulted in a difficult puppyhood. By having excess chicken when he was young (before we discovered the cause) he would also get terrible tummy upsets.... If she has no reaction to chicken mince you could try that, as well as roo, lamb or turkey...

When i think of all my dogs, I have to agree with this statement... their high intelligence allows them to pick and choose how they want to behave... certain gundogs are like this more than others... I agree completely otherwise why are gundogs the most commonly used breed in the assistance/blind field. Although i own the breeds that most uninformed have the most to say.Setters. Most & it has been said by regular DOLERS that setters are stupid but known have ever owned them. Irish excel at obedience,gordons excel in all dog sports.the English i would agree take a bit more time & i think the unfortunate part is some owners may have had adeaf/partially deaf English setter & not realized labelling them stupid. The English i say are stars in the field but less eager to please for long periods. The red/whites are great all rounders. The biggest issue is alot f trainers carry breed snobbery & views .I have been dished it many times they just happened to pick the wrong bunnt to spin there talk. All my setters live with little dogs & interact all the time with any dog ,I have owned gundogs for over 21 yrs from yanks to setters & bever had a hard one to train,its just a case of using the method that works.Being patient & not expecting to much to young. During the growth stages i find the setters are very akward & as such sitting quickly etc etc is just not what there body is ready for & this applies to many large dogs Of course I agree here, owning English Setters... They take a lot of work because they are less eager to please. Also the setters, although asked to work for the owner, tend to have that slightly more independent streak due to the nature of their job... trained to range out and find the birds and then wait for the owner to see/flush them tells me that they have to use their own brains and control their prey drive to a degree. When i look at the difference between my utility gundog (weim) and my setter, i can see the huge difference.. of course, weims were originally bred to bring down large game so their drive is going to be high... and we must work harder to control it... My English setter was very successful at obedience, however my younger boy, not so much, but i believe he would excel in the field, to a degree (would never be as good as the field type setters) I think, with gundogs, that ability to switch off the drive or curtail it to our needs is evident... they rely so hugely on Human direction and their desire to please is much higher... As for GSP's and being retrieving nuts, i couldn't agree more... I have never seen another breed with that much desire to retrieve... not even the retrieving breeds seem to have that same crazy desire. totally agree with the puppy brain... although in saying that both my ES grew up at about 2years... i am currently wondering if the weim will ever grow up, but i wouldnt have it any other way... And... Gundogs are CLEARLY better looking than sibes... hands down... i believe the term MELTING EXPRESSION was a term designed just for gundogs

I have read somewhere (probably here!) that if you are going to feed large marrow bones, that they should not be cut in half as it is a lot harder for the dog to break bits off. I agree though, best to feed softer bones. Kangaroo tails, lamb flaps or chicken wings/frames are a good alternative. Turkey necks are great when you can find them.

oh dear - I hope your pup gets better soon! I was going to post to say James had a vaccination reaction where his whole face swelled up... we rushed him to the vet who gave him an antihistamine shot... but we didn't have any of the issues you have had after the swelling went down... Fingers crossed for you baby to make a quick recovery.
