  1. Glad your camera worked itself out Tess Can you get Camera Servicing? perhaps getting it checked/serviced to make sure all is well would be a good idea. :)
  2. I'm tallish, brunette, glasses - kind of look like a stereotypical librarian... maybe a saluki, standard poodle or Irish setter. Instead I have English Setters and weims, and I'm usually covered in white hair
  3. Allergies are such a difficult thing to treat, most vets don't want to even try and work out the cause and the specialists take on a lot of cases because they want to work out the cause and treat it. I was told when I first decided on desensitisation injections that it was 3 out of 5 dogs improve (not cured) by doing desensitisation. I was one of the lucky ones where it worked for my boy. After about a year of injections, he was off cortisone completely. he was initially very difficult to diagnose because he had both atopic and food allergies. he's now 10, and while occasionally has a bit of a setback during seasonal changes, he has only had to be on cortisone once since he came off it (6 years ago)
  4. emery yes they always, always choose the worst time for things like this. Ari was in season when I went to SA for the national with her... the day we arrived she was in standing heat!! luckily they split dogs and bitches two separate days but it was still quite annoying having to deal with her season as well, particularly as she travelled with an entire male!
  5. not heard of stopping a phantom we usually just let her ride it out. Keep up her routine as much as possible.
  6. I probably won't come tonight... Lulu still in season and not much really to do with spartan besides Rally which is Thursday!! I'll be there on Thursday though, with spartan.
  7. Congrats to Millie for her pass!! naughty Ruby she probably wanted to go find a bird rather than a boring dummy :D I have a net cargo barrier RS and it works really well. I've only had an issue once when Lulu managed to somehow squeeze herself through the side into the back seat, but it hasn't happened since. They are quite easy to put in as well - just the anchor points in the ceiling and the floor of the back area.
  8. I haven't read all of the posts, but I have a friend involved in rescue of weims and we have had several surrenders where the dog had similar behavioural issues. These were dogs that lived in homes with FIFO workers, but also had family at home. I think it does depend on how the dogs are treated and the experience of the owner, but I don't think I'd put a weim in a home with a FIFO - I don't think they cope well. I would consider it with an older, well adapted English Setter, though, as I think they are good at coping with change generally and are a lot more laid back about things.
  9. The biggest benefit of WA is that it's the only state in Australia that has it's own thread on DOL :D but, apparently if you are in SA you can be part of it anyway, right ness? ;)
  10. Oh dear yes I had a loud one in my litter too Ptolomy - Ginger whinger (orange ribbon) stopped whining when he opened his eyes, but went back to being a whinger later on around 5-6 weeks!! he was just never satisfied LOL
  11. if you don't want to order online (personally I did and peperone were great to deal with), I think that Glyn sells it at the canine shop at the DogsWest Canine grounds. He is open I think on Fridays in the mornings, but otherwise he is open for most of the bigger shows on weekends. google "wa show pet supplies"
  12. I suppose the only way you wouldn't be allowed, according to the rules, is if the dog is under 6 months of age, because it'd mean that the judge in question owned/co-owned the dog in the last 6 months. I think, though, you'll find many people won't enter a dog the judge bred.
  13. General Specials are Best in Show and all the Class in Shows (baby, minor, puppy, junior etc). This is done after all the groups have completed their judging. You are able to enter more than one class once your pup is eligible based on age, but generally, people don't (in WA anyway). you must win your class in all classes you enter, otherwise you are knocked out (ie if you enter Minor puppy, and puppy, and do not get 1st in Minor, you cannot compete in puppy - I think). It can be quite complicated and generally you just enter one class. Also be sure to check which classes are actually offered at each show - usually novice and graduate aren't offered at WA shows, and sometimes Australian Bred isn't offered. You will find Open and Aust Bred, although young dogs are eligible to compete, those classes are usually full of older dogs. most stick to the age class they are eligible for. If there are sweepstakes though, that is different. They are usually done before breed judging starts and the results do not go towards the main part of the show.
  14. Mine simply just aren't ready for the RATG, and i don't want to set them up to fail.. Teh other weimaraner who was entered last time is in 5th year veterinary science and i dont' think she can spare the time or the money at the moment. I entered last time to boost entries for the club but can't do that every time.
  15. Congrats Horty!! Rolf is lovely, and a happy ending for Rolf now blessed to live with you. Look forward to meeting him. I may be going to the MPW... although possibly without a dog if Lulu is still in season. I can't really trust Ari or Spartan and the distance is too far for James i think. I'll be walking with the Weimaraner club of WA.
  16. MishB see if they have anything on their website. I got my entry forms/schedule through the mail as most of us do if we have entered the previous year. If you can't find anything on the website, just give them a call and ask them to send you entry forms. www.perthroyalshow.com.au
  17. You have to be clever and go to a company that offers all that in the package. My issue is if we buy exsisting we will only afford a tiny block of land ;( True, but I found it's virtually impossible to find any company that includes everything... you are still left spending money on things at the end of it all. I enjoyed the building process, but I don't find it gives you any more than buying pre-established, except more time to save for the things you are going to need (which incidentally you won't need if you buy pre-established!)
  18. Glad that she is going well and resting ness. to CC for yesterday :D
  19. i defrost overnight - into the fridge the following day and fed mostly thawed that night. If I forget, I let it sit in tepid water until mostly defrosted then serve. Never in microwave.
  20. Congratulations - I am so very happy for you, you are so deserving of a new wonderful friend in your life. :)
  21. Lectures should be delivered to aspiring judges based on the current australian breed standard, from whichever country it follows.
  22. There are plenty of breeds where there are colours that are not allowable, that are still able to be registered on limited - I don't see how White GSD are any different.
  23. Allerzeit I adore Nova - I think she is just stunning. Not much going on with us either - only been in a couple of shows lately. Miss Lulu beat her mother on Saturday for RBCC. Lulu is nearly 12 months and is as cheeky but beautiful as ever :)
  24. I started with straight beef mince and within a couple of days introduced minced chicken carcass (with bone). I never had any issues with them on raw and had more trouble getting them to accept kibble. Next time I'll be feeding raw only.
