  1. There's a little dog and her name is Dust When it comes to dinner, she's not fussed Miss Dusty, she's not fussy 'bout food She really just has to be in the mood. There's also a Chihuahua called Moose Who likes to run around like a goose He chased a seagull like a flash Landed in the ocean with a big splash Did you meet Sophie, the GSD? She's a pretty girl, cute as can be, When mum was mad when she dug the lawn to dirt, She got her own back and ate mum's silk skirt! My heart dog his name is Jamie, or sometimes it's James or it's Jimmy He is the sweetest, you see, but dopey as can be and I wouldn't give him up if you paid me
  2. sandgrubber there is a kennel zone in Murrayfield/Mandurah area... so that shire may be more open to exceptions... Also (and not as helpful as it is north) Wanneroo is fairly good at granting more than two dogs and they don't have rediculous requirements.

  4. bigdogg I love the SRHP too... Interesting fact they tried to get it registered as a wirehaired WEimaraner but the German club refused them... so they named it what it is named today. perhaps you could email Narelle at Greydove she would be the one to speak to regarding what happened with the Slovakian quest... I know it's a lot of time and money bringing in a new breed. I don't know of any in Australia either but i know a lot of people (mostly weim people) with an interest in them. We have a new Wirehaired Viz showing at the moment - baby puppy... just so adorable with his little mo!!
  5. Everyone is really good at the Perth grounds at shows... and even during the week during other classes such as obedience etc. I just can't understand ANYONE who would think so highly of themselves that they don't have to pick up after their dogs... it's pretty bad
  6. Yep there both nights with the OES and WEi... will be a mad rush again this year no doubt, but we had a great time last year, and hopefully our results will be just as good too!! I'll probably also be showing a LH Wei...
  7. Ihaven't bred a litter yet but a common theme with vets in my breed is apparently that if they can't diagnose something, they will blame it on an immunity issue, because that is common in Weims... Bisart Dobes I really like that idea of gathering information on recommended vets in various areas. I will keep it in mind!
  8. In regards to coat if all the breeds are what they think they are, it's likely you'd be getting a shorter coat. The coat may be quite thick though, on account of the lab. it's entirely possible that this dog will lose just as much coat as your goldy did... however opposite to some here, i find the short grey weimaraner hair easier to clean up than the long white strands of setter hair. If it comes time to pick the puppy, make sure you observe the pups impartially before making your decision. Don't let yourself or the kids get attached to the cute naughty one chewing on your shoelaces if you don't think you want a full on, active adult, for example. But in addition to this, perhaps choosing a laid back pup might not work either since you want your hubby to run with it in the future. Perhaps ask the owner if they can start to observe the puppies temperaments now and give you an idea of what each one is like when time comes to choose. they may or may not do this and of course this is what sets registered, ethical and experienced breeders apart from BYBs. You haven't got a lot to guide you, because although they are all gundogs, temperament wise all breeds are quite different. Again, predicability lies in getting a purebreed, but to some degree you will be able to guage what these pups might be like as adults by observing mum and dad, and each pup impartially (stand back and watch them play). Best of luck with your decision!
  9. SBT, the pessimist in me thought exactly the same thing as you...
  10. he seems to walk with his toes in... but i don't really see anything i'd consider an issue with his movement. I am sure plenty of people used to looking at and assessing dog movement will be able to give you their thoughts if they come into the thread
  11. another happy to recommend the person showdog sees... she has done wonderful things for my ES who has HD, and she did a great job on our old grey when she was having some troubles with arthritis.
  12. I have noticed that Ari is happiest when she is playing with another Weimaraner - she enjoys the way they play and generally they can handle a few knocks. James and Spartan don't play a LOT but they do play really well with other setters - particularly James who has been known to follow suit and learn some fun Irish setter games. James will always avoid playing with Ari because she is too rough. None of my dogs can play safely with the OES - he is very rough and likes to herd and even nip (he is a very friendly dog, and what he does is very obvious play). he plays best with fellow OES and it is the only time his playing style is matched with enjoyment and enthusiasm. Do your dogs play best with dogs of the same breed and/or similar body type/temperament type? or are my dogs breed biased?
  13. I think i would have said something to the woman who was spreading the accusations...
  14. try and tell her from a distance, if she looks as though she is going to pass you, that you are putting your dog into a sit so that she can walk past... perhaps making it known to her that you are aware of her fear means that she will relax a little when you are near her, cos she knows you will keep Daisy under control... I'd hate to think of what could happen if she goes past a wary dog giving off those types of vibes.. Edit: bugger just saw your last post... if she doesn't speak english it makes things difficult.
  15. Mmmmm extra protein Nom Nom!! Ari loves flies - and she is good at catching them too! another fave is earwigs - they are expert at disposing of them now... James loves the moths the most, but when he was a puppy (before Ari came along with her big nose) he used to set at flies for ages - up to 10 minutes once, until the fly flew away.
  16. Jeanne to answer your other question - yes it will say on the schedule if there is a class for Neuter... however (and sorry if you know this but you might not)Berri must be on main registration papers to enter.
  17. KKDD i am so sorry for your loss... Your post for her was beautiful. You have just described every weimaraner I have ever owned and those words bring back both fond and sad memories for me. My beloved Sparky and Tansy will meet Rachel at the bridge and show her the best screen doors to shred until you meet her again one day. *gentle hugs* to you. I feel your pain.
  18. Sorry but Never even thought of something like that. Seriously not good though. Trust me i didn't laugh!! the story was horrific, and the girl who committed the crime actually did look a little like me!! I probably would have laughed if the story wasn't so awful and sad.
  19. Three distinct ways for mine... Spartan - if outside and wants in, makes loud, annoying barks until let in... if inside, chewbacca noises seem to work. Ari - a series of cries, whinges and barks in many decibles... mostly, the whinges start and then i ask "what?" and look at her and she gives mea loud woo woo woo bark then jumps on me - because then i will know exactly what she wants. James is the sweetest of all (when is he not?). He will come and lean on knee, lap, lounge arm and make silent whines... if that doesn't work, he will paw you and stare with the look which he think looks sad and needy but i only see as bloody cheeky. If he REALLY wants something, he will paw, then CLING with his nails... ouch!!! I have seen this final approach used effectively on OH while he was taking a nanna nap. James wanted on the lounge - OH stretched accross said lounge... James paws and clings OH's legs multiple times while pulling back legs until OH moves legs, then James jumps and settles with the most triumphant look on his face!!
  20. When I googled my name, it came up with a story of a person with the same name murdering her mother... How do you even know you have the right person when you google them?
  21. I wish i had known more about dog socialisation, and what to do after a bad experience (or several!) i wish i knew more about body language in dogs I wish I knew NEVER to give up on crate training no matter how loud they scream!!
  22. this happened to someone at a pet expo once also with their Irish Water Spaniels... it was announced as they came on the stage that they were some lovely labradoodles, only to be sharply corrected by their owner... it was just after I gave the same guy a dirty look for calling my English Setter a Dally X! but really, how many people out there are going to know about CCRs, IWS and English Setters, the difference between a puppy borzoi and a whippet... it's all the more reason we need to educate and talk about our breeds with pride!!
