  1. angelsophie by squat I guess i mean more stand/squat like a puppy pees... you can teach a cue word for peeing by starting out getting them to go somewhere they will go without fail (praise required when they go of course)... once you have that, they'll go when you say that word, regardless of where they are. that is it in a nutshell. Another quick easy way is to take boys over to where a bitch might have gone. All my boys go over the top of girl pee without a second thought... sometimes my boys will still lift a leg but only slightly as they are aiming for the ground.
  2. RS a good way of finding out is to read the minutes of their meetings they usually have the business of granting permits and whether or not they are granted. do this in addition to finding out the process of their council for 3 dog permit.
  3. Guys i totally agree with all your points regarding the three dog rule... and I think ozjen that it is a FANTASTIC idea to see if we can get the councils to consider members of the canine association to have leniency placed on them with regards to the three dog rule... I think it is unfortunate that councils have the right to impose their own laws as there are some councils that are more dog friendly than others. Recently i noticed that two dog parks in my area have been removed as off leash areas... so now my off leash areas are a car drive away!! RS, City of Wanneroo is apparently quite good with regards to granting permits... Swan sounds ideal too
  4. BMP i have read the whole thread - perhaps you can enlighten me on something I have missed? Also, I answered your question about where to get your dog to pee if there are no posts/trees - or in your case, tyres - available... boys really will pee anywhere if they have a chance...

  6. Congrats SP!! I love their cute little bums well done on a smoooooooooth whelping.
  7. Sorry but someone allowing their dog to blatantly pee on someone elses property, regardless of how much muck it unintentionally comes into contact with, is just rude. It's almost like saying it's ok that your dog pees on someones shoes, because they already walk through muck. Male dog pee can smell absolutely feral, and I am not sure about anyone else but i can smell it a mile off - some dogs have stronger pee than others but it is an awful smell. Stop trying to justify your actions, get that it just isn't something you do, and move on. Do like the rest of us do with coated male dogs and teach them to squat pee... it'll probably save your dogs coat anyway.
  8. yay baybies!!! Well done Elsa and Ziva - what a good girl for giving you all those girls!! Can't wait for piccies!!
  9. Agree!! Lots of people blame it on the OES crowd... i strip my OES at HOME!!
  10. Gees i hope everyones doggies stay safe and healthy... RIP to those puppies and dogs that have been lost during the outbreak
  11. BMP if he really needs to go, he'll go on anything... I managed to get my boy to go on leaves, small sticks etc. perhaps if you start by getting him to pee on things you know he'll go on (trees etc) and use a cue so he will go on anything later on when he hears the cue word. This worked for my boy anyway. it comes in really handy because if you can teach them to stand and pee rather than lift a leg high, they don't pee all over themselves...
  12. I HATE picking up poo with a scooper at shows, and much prefer to bag it... although I am really weird about picking up dog poo that isn't my own dog... it makes me feel ill... still i have done it before and i will do it in the future if i have to - but that is the thing... I shouldn't have to... no one should except the owner/handler. I remember once I was picking up poo with the scooper while I was holding onto the pooer himself... I was dragging the poo bin over, fiddling around with the scoop and the tray, which were both awkwardly chained to the bin, opening the lid, all while still holding the dog... people would walk past clearly seeing that i was struggling, yet no one stopped to help. The poo bin even tipped over at one point, happily the bin lid remained firmly closed and it didn't leave me knee deep in poo, ,but i was a bit angry with unhelpful people that day. Anyway now i always have a bag if i can because I don't want to go through that again!!
  13. thats a shame SBT101 - maybe next year they will change the days around so you guys will be able to come down.
  14. walked again this morning just one dog though... it was still a bit warm at 6am though so cut the walk short again... Daisy i hope you are feeling better soon *hugs* Cuchulain I hope Max feels better soon!!
  15. tj dogs are welcome but I think it's generally easier if you want to have a good look around not to bring your dog, particularly if excitable. there are a lot of dogs and a lot of smells. I don't have my mag with me at the moment but someone else will be able to tell you what night poodles are on. all our summer shows are at night as we have the benefit of awesome lighting.
  16. Hi tj Not quite as big as crufts but the biggest show we have in WA except the Royal is the Western Classic... it's held over the labour day weekend. there is agility and obedience on as well i think. We also have the national agility trials coming up which will be pretty big so you might like to see that. go to www.dogswest.com for details on events but you can also call up for details on times etc. (94551188) apart from the royal and country shows, MOST shows are held at the canine grounds - cnr ranford and warton roads in southern river.
  17. it was one breed for me all the way, but my decision for my third dog was between two breeds... first breed was the irish water spaniel... i have always loved them... Second was the weimaraner - always had them, very devoted and energetic (something i was looking for) I went with the weimaraner for a number of reasons... I wanted a break from grooming for the showring after grooming a setter for the ring for the last 4 years... the IWS had a coat that needed special attention and a whole new set of skills for the showring that i had to learn... weims essentially wash and wear. I wanted something into retrieving... both good for this. I wanted a dog with a strong recall (because setters are useless ) and knew weims are great for this - wasn't sure about IWS. Was interested in other disciplines (obedience, agility) - both good for this Ultimately, what made my decision was that i had more experience and knowledge with weimaraners... hence my decision. Good luck with your choice!!
  18. walked BOTH dogs this morning it was a challenge as it has been a while since i walked both together by myself! i left at 5.50am and had to leave earlier than normal because it was already starting to heat up to our now 42 degree day...
  19. Go Ziva!! All the best for a safe and boring whelping.
  20. I think it depends on the dog and the breed. Setters i think look much nicer if you are kneeling behind for the final stack - you can keep the tail at the right height and hold them under the head which is IMO the best place for a setter. Weimaraners I think it depends on the dog, but most exhibitors place and stand side on, holding the head under chin or collar up and tail up. At one stage I was freestacking my weims front, placing her rear and baiting her forwards, because she did much better when i didn't touch her, pull her around etc. but now she has matured she is better if i stand next to her and hold her tail and head. OES i place and stand behind, head up (tail *cough* tucked in!). they also do an excellent free stack if they are correctly proportioned. Best thing to do with all your dogs to determine what is going to make them look their best is to film yourself or take photos of all the options and pick the one that brings out the best in your dog. you may end up with several different techniques for each individual, and you may end up changing as the dog grows and changes. ETA for us, collar ALWAYS up behind ears... shows better neck into shoulder.
  21. I'm not sure bigdogg... sorry! I'd speak to Val or Narelle.... although if they got the breed approved for introduction but never went ahead with the imports then I doubt there'd be much they can tell you. You could try PMing greydove but i am not sure how often Narelle comes on DOL forums anymore.
