  1. Can anyone tell me how many weis, and if there are any Englsih Setters entered please? (pretty please?)
  2. CareyJ i had a GSP in my class once a while ago when i was training my eldest boy... he was soooo exciteable but so amazingly intelligent and once the owner managed to maintain focus, he was best in our class. They really do have an amazing drive and it's a great tool to use for obedience.
  3. What a shame! i hope this doesn't cause any issues for the club.
  4. my boy was one of 8 puppies out of an 11 year old sire.
  5. Aziah that shot is calendar worthy - I love her!! (and her name!)
  6. There are a few threads on this too you can look at... I would first consider putting the show before the breeding... start by showing a male, see if you like what is involved, get to know what is required in the standard, then consider getting a bitch to show and breed IF she meets the standard... i am sure others will have a bit more to add.
  7. How did you get started in showing? I just wanted a male English Setter with preference for a specific colour. He was the only male in that litter who was that colour but he was also the best... so suggestion was to start showing... took me a few months to get into the ring but once i figured I could do it without totally humilating myself i started showing more often... turns out i ruined my first dog LOL he hated the ring (retired without title) but i have learned a lot since then and can't wait for another one!! What was your first dog/breed? first breed was a weimaraner... but they werent shown. First showdog English Setter.Currently show a weimaraner and OES. What is your favourite memory? (Doesn't need to be a win but just a significant moment, maybe the moment you knew you were hooked?) I guess my favourite memory when i look back on it was winning RCC under a UK judge over older competition at the royal show. I didnt really know what it meant at the time but i look back on it as a pretty huge achievement particularly as I didn't ever have that much competition again! it was then i realised that my dog wasn't crap, just my handling. Who do you thank from your early days? I guess from very early days would be my mum,who has been with me on this journey every step of the way... Liz, Spartan's breeder who entrusted me with my first showdog who she could have kept for herself... also worthy of thanks for the help i received is tracy mol. more recently i thank Suzanne who has helped me a lot with my current breed and learning more than i ever could have about weimaraners. Who really helps/helped you out and you wouldn't be where you are without them? Faolmor and Mr Faolmor have helped me out so much and I wouldnt' have continued on with it if it hadnt been for them and the support and help i have had from them over the years. My mum again, cos she helped me through a lot too (including the hours spent grooming!)... Another person who helped me out was my sister, who saw that my need to show was greater than hers and allowed me to take on handling her OES when I had no dogs of my own to show...
  8. Cosmolo i know exactly how you feel... James has HD and despite doing all i can for him, I know he wont have as long a life with me and it breaks my heart whenever i think of it. My heart aches knowing that someday he will no longer be here except in my heart... but i am so grateful that he chose to share his life with me. I think that our heart dogs are chosen for us for a reason... James was meant to come to me, because I needed him as much as he needed me. He restored my faith in the breed and told me that I will never be without an English Setter.
  9. sandgrubber, you are in WA - so even if the rest of the country gets online facilities (which it seems most do, even if they don't work), we will still Wait Awhile before we do anything similar...
  10. Perth to SA in 08 and again this year - both for specialties... although that is flying so not really a long stretch of travel.... Other than that furthest road trip has been Perth to geraldton... i cant even remember how long it took but i got up early :D
  11. RS - it seems that there are just more and more reasons piling up on you to MOVE!! :D ;)
  12. Hi all we had an awesome time yesterday down at Kwinana beach for an OES club beach meet. Char had a great time although he was rediculously obsessed with the girls - particularly the grumpy 11yo girls!! he had a swim and got very sandy and after lunch (broken bbqs btw, so don't expect to use them if you go down to Kwinana! the junior footy club let us use their bbq!) I spent an hour brushing out his feet and legs to get most of the sand out before we put him back in the car. i did have the forsight to take a hose with jet water connection though, so i got most of the salty sandy water out of his coat! it was a fun time though!! OES are great together and play well. we had two labs join in the fun although they seemed intrigued more than anything with the fluffy dogs!!
  13. JulesP mine hasnt had anything squishy because of the destruction of it... i dont think it's cos she is warm...
  14. Erny i like the way you describe the relationship with a heart dog... that is how i would explain it if i had the words.
  15. dogs are not people... they do not have the conscious thought to know when their next meal is, and hence they will eat when they can. Look at their cousins in the wild, who will gorge on a meal because they do not know when they will eat next. Yes, they get hungry, but mostly they will always be willing to eat, as a survival mechanism. in addition to this, you do have a choice of feeding your dogs more than once a day. many people feed twice a day... there is no rule against it... but i am sure you will find that even if you feed twice a day, they'd still beg or be iwlling to eat any time of the day.
  16. sorry yes... i know that just didn't think to add it!!
  17. I really admire purebred cats, but i have always had moggys. My last was from a rescue and if i ever get another cat, it will be a PB from a registered breeder, or it will be a rescue. Just the same as i won't support BYB puppies, i won't do the same with cats. I can't speak for hte rest, although if i decided to get a rabbit, rat or guinea pig again, I'd look for a registered breeder as again i won't support pet shops.
  18. Not all states can put pups directly into the owners name, is this correct? I know some states can - is SA able to? Otherwise you will just have to sign the back (ensure the breeder has signed it) to transfer it over.
  19. I have had weimaraners for 18 years and was dog obsessed for about that long too. I learned all I could about my favourite breed (English Setters) but when I got them i learned a whole lot more (particularly that temperaments arent always by the book!) I would say i have done most of my learning about conformation and grooming since I got my first setter and started showing... stepped up my learning when I got my weimaraner bitch but as yet have not had any experience with raising a litter since I was 8 (and lets face it i didn't do any raising back then!) I also really like to learn, and dogs aremy number one interest, so I am pretty much like a sponge when it comes to learning. If only I had that sort of interest in school!!
