Oh god, I am soooo tired!!!! So glad I took today off work as well!! I am wrecked! What a fantastic weekend. As Shoey said Steve, sorry about the giggles from up the back. Here I was freaking about the noise Roxy might make in the crate, and Ed was the one making such a racket..... shame his was from snoring though!!! It was sooo funny!!! -

I'll be there all 3 days with the doggy, can't wait!! Also had my private consult yesterday.... was great!!!!!! -
Could it be her anal glands? A friends dog had issues with his, and my friends first thought was that his tail was broken??? Ie: holding it down, not wagging it at all, and squeeling if she touched his tail....... Maybe a possibility???

I would love to have gone to this!! My club was sending us all on the Friday night but I was unfortunately way too sick to attend! What did she say about high drive dogs? Would love some info on this???

Thanks all..... will move the crate into our bedroom tonight and I will put her bed in it. I had the crate in the lounge room while we were watching tv last night. I put her bed in it, but she wasn't too interested in it. I think she's trying to be stubborn and resisting the change (she's 3 1/2 years old). She'd go in the crate when she knew she was going to get a treat but once she thought the treats had dried up she'd creep out and just lay on the loungeroom floor. So, I need to persist and not let her 'rule the roost' so to speak!!

Well I have finally bought a crate for Roxy! I thought it was about time. Well she seemed unsure to start with, until I started throwing treats in the crate. By about 9pm last night (got home with the crate at 5pm) she was understanding the command "in your crate" and would go in freely, of course knowing that she would get a treat at the end. She seems to be accepting the crate, which is just great. But doesn't appear to be overly relaxed in it. She will sit and lay down in it, but doesn't roll over onto her side (the position she would go to sleep in). It's currently in our lounge room. I'm thinking though that for the purpose of crate training she should be also sleeping in the crate, in our bedroom. She currently has her own bed in our bedroom. I'm hoping that this will cement the philosophy in her mind? Any suggestions?

Deltron, did you make it to Lure Coursing on Sunday? We were there, had a ball as usual!!! Roxy even helped a friends little Staffy girl run this time..... a few crash and tackles later and they had a blast!!!

The vet also said that it could possibly be plastic that is causing the dermatitis Yes, I have heard this. It can cause a pimply-type rash. My girl was getting this at one stage from a plastic water bowl. Apparently bacteria adheres to the plastic more so than a stainless steel dish/bowl. Once I changed her water bowl to stainless the problem dramatically reduced!!!

Whats a FOO night?? My thoughts exactly!!!!

Wooo woooo!!! Can't wait for this!!! Will definately be there! -
This is a great topic that you have raised!!! I have just completed my theory portion of the instuctor class at my local dog obedience club, so I guess I can see this from both sides of the fence. As a handler in the past, I could see areas where a lot of the instructors where too harsh on the handlers. But at the same time I can see this from an instructor point of view now. I think the biggest problem facing instructors is the time contraints and also class sizes. It's very hard to provide individual advise to handlers when you have a full class to teach. I can tell you that most people do not do the work, and the few that do are normally the ones to progress quickly. I have seen some dogs attending for 5 years in some cases, because the owners think that one Sunday a week or fortnight is enough training, so it is usually the first line of thought when an instructor is trying to work out why a dog is not progressing. I totally agree with this comment from dogdude.... this is where it becomes extremely difficult!!!

Thanks Cavandra!! I will look into both getting the titre testing accepted and also the '3 yearly' vaccination. Fingers crossed!!!
-
I would truley love to not have to vaccinate my dog yearly, but unfortunately we are members of a dog club that require a yearly vaccination. To the best of my knowledge they wouldn't accept titre testing. They are affiliated with the VCA. Do I have any options at this point?

I work full time, but I actually have a day off on Friday.... so that would be fine. Bit worried about Ballam Park though. I heard that there is an issue there with Parvo, have you heard anything. -

Hey all, Thanks for Monday.... sorry about Roxy being a feral bimbo though. The aimless barking was what was truely driving me nutso!!! Having her tethered was a great test, and I expected some barking with that. But it was her barking at nothing that really sent me around the twist..... she's not normally like that, she must have been having a really bimbo day!!! Thanks for the comments on the recall. We have been working on it. But I just need to harness that enthusiam. Roxy is a dog that is either completely "on" or totally "off". A formal recall is where she is normally "on", but in some ways she can be too quick, and can over-shoot me... or just be so excited the she completely runs past me, but definately something we are working on!! I guess that's where a lot of our issues come from though, she has a huge amount of drive, but I don't know how to harness it. Hopefully there will be a K9 Force seminar on Drives in the near future..... this is definately something we can benefit from. And this would also help by removing treats (my next main focus). She was just acting like a lunatic on Monday, so hopefully she will be better next week!!! Fingers crossed!!!! -

I wouldn't mind meeting up over the long weekend at KCC maybe? No training at Berwick Club this weekend unfortunately and I would love the opportunity to do some training. -

Ok, I might skip normal Obedience Club on the first Saturday 14th April.... would really like to make it to this. And it's also Rox's birthday this day, hehehe!!! And I will be there for the 28th as well!!! -
We have been using it for about 3 months. It has been great. Roxy has allergies (no idea if they are environmental or food related), and since going onto Uncle Albers I have seen a slight improvement. Don't get me wrong, her allergies are far from better, but there has been a slight improvement. Her paws were looking up for a while, but have since slipped again. But her ears are where I see the improvement. She has not had a yeast infection since being on this food. And of course her coat, which is lovely. I have used every super premium food under the sun, with not even a slight affect on the allergies..... until I tried this food!!!!!
