I am so upset to read this, I am very teary right now thinking how Slade would have suffered. Slade could not defend itself. And if he did, he would have been declared dangerous because he attacked his owner. Lose-lose situation. That is why I get so upset at stupid scum like this guy. And what a stupid punishment to lay on him - phooey.

oh bla bla bla - one reason I come to this forum is to blow off steam, at the same time, I am so put off by members who attack other members because they say something they think is wrong. See above posts, you know who you are. This is not a debate about punishment but sharing our grief/sadness so get off your moral high horses.

i like to smash her against the wall...and hold that man under the water on a leash...wow...that sounds really harsh isn't it? But then I am so angry, they deserve to be treated the way they treated their animal and see how they like it. Stupid woman. Stupid man. I think an eye for an eye for animal cruelty. Animals can't speak for themselves. We take them into our world and try to domesticated them. They can't talk, they don't hold grudges, and when they try to fight back for themselves we pin them down even further.........I feel so so so angry.

do we know what happened to the dog in the end? how do we find out?

HI my puppy at 16 weeks, went for her final injection and was microchipped at the same time. She had a lump the size of 20cents coin, which the vet said was reaction to the vacc. The lump went away after a week. Feel the lump everyday, feel for changes in size. I panicked at first but after a few days I felt the lump subsiding, and finally disappeared altogether.

Do you take away his food if he doesn't eat it? Don't leave it on the ground all day long as this encourages a grazing-I'll-eat-it-whenever attitude. Always take it away after 5 minutes if he doesn't eat it and soon he'll get the message that I'll better eat NOW or else I'll go hungry. Any respectful good breeder will be happy to talk to you about your puppy problems (I always ask my breeder if I have any concern about my dogs). With feeding, I started 1.5 cups of Royal Canin Puppy Dry food 3x daily until about 4 months. I soaked it in warm water until partly soft before giving it to my puppy. Then about 4 months onwards we feed her 2 cups 2x daily. You don't need to soak it. We just wet the food with water, drain the water away and give it to her in the crunchy form (good for their teething period). I have two GSDs, one is nearly 3 years old and the other one 5 months. Now we are on Eukanuba GSD Breed specific (remember to gradually change over). The older GSD gets some flavouring on her food e.g sardines, bit of meat etc but the main meal is the dry food. The puppy gets just the wetted dry food. I always take away their food bowl after they have finished or when they walked away from it.

Thank you to everyone who has replied to my post. Last week was highly stressful for us and your replies helped in many ways. There was so much information to digest and the most worrying thing was not knowing the extent of the damage. There were so many theories flying about because the vet could not understand how a fall in the park could cause the hip to dislocate like that and through manipulation the leg keeps popping out. The x-rays only give you limited information. We were given many options available to fix the injury but which one, that could only be determined during surgical procedure. Finally after three nights in the vet, my pup underwent surgery. There were substantial bruising and trauma to the leg. A toggle had to be put in. We are thankful that her hip is stable to hold the toggle. Otherwise, we would have to sought other measures which we would have to decide right there and then during surgery. She was home the next day and when we went to picked her up she was as bright as she can be. She is on Rimadyl and antibiotics and will have Cathrofen injections periodically. We also have a supply of sedation pills to be used as needed. We try to avoid using these pills but for the sake of two weeks which is the most crucial time for her leg to heal, we had to at times. She is being crated at home and we are lucky that we work from home so we can look after her 24/7. She is remarkably accepting of the crate and the use of only three legs at the moment. Prognosis is bright and she is expected to make full recovery following a period of rehab. It's going to be a long recovery period but I am relieved that she is home and thankful of all my friends in my GSD club and in this forum who helped us got through last week.

Yep along those terms. If the ball and socket don't seem to be abnormal then I would think that you would have less worry about it happening again. Only problem would be that now the tendons & muscles surrounding it have been stretched that's probably why when they are popping it back in it wont stay. I am guessing that they have her on some anti inflams in the drip to relax the muscles and tendons. I'll ask him tomorrow but she did fall down pretty hard and really yelp. She was at the park with my hubby and some kid through a ball and she went to chase it and the ball bounced and she leapt to catch it and fell backwards on her bum. Hubby says she was about half a metre to a metre off the ground. Vet says to be thankful that she has not fractured her legs, hips or broken any bones. Yes she is on painkillers.

were you thinking if she has HD? The vet doesn't say it's abnormal.

Just need some consoling from anyone who has had experience with their dog dislocating their hip? My GSD flip over and landed on her back left leg. Took her to the vet immediately, they have x-rayed her and confirmed that she had dislocated her leg. They try to put the leg back in but it won't stay in. She is under sedation and is on the drip and they are keeping her overnight. They'll try to do it again in the morning and if it doesn't work he will refer me to the specialist for surgery. Has anyone had this dislocation happened to them before? Does dog heal 100%? Will there be pain? She's only 21 months and is very fit and is on the correct weight. Help...

If she was only desexed in the last couple of days then I wouldn't be concerned. You have had the Vet look at it and they have said it is ok so why the worry? A clear discharge is perfectly normal on a fresh wound, as is a little redness around the surgical site. Afterall the skin has been sliced with a scalpel. The clear fluid is the bodies reaction to healing itself. The fluid will help 'stick' the wound together, exactly as if you had cut yourself. Signs to be concerned about are an angry redness and swelling, puss or a dirty coloured smelly discharge, the wound tearing open, obvious pain which is more then usual, the dog vomiting, being off colour and depressed and or not drinking. Thanks Puggles! I am a worry wort allright. The fluid discharge is a bit worse this morning. Have rang the vet and they said to take her in and they will drain the fluid. The nurse said it is common that this occur on active dogs.
