I can understand the levels of surprise oh shock oh horrors if the participants had been backyard greyhound owners and racers but most were organised by big names in racing.... therefore the cynic in me wonders how much chance will have happened in 5 years time H -

Thyroid Carcinoma - Anyone With Experince With This?
dogbesotted replied to Stormy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
just pointing out that hypothyroid conditions ( and this will happen after a thyroidectomy)are implicated in vestibular episodes. III.MISCELLANEOUS CAUSES OF VERTIGO There are multiple metabolic derangements that have been implicated as causative factors in inner ear disease According to Rubin117 there are five major organ systems responsible for inner ear homeostasis. These include the adrenal and pituitary glands, the hormonal and immune systems and the hypothalamus.117 The most frequent laboratory abnormality associated with vestibular dysfunction in hyperglycemia. Frequently dietary manipulation will lead to a beneficial response.118,119 Spencer120 reported on 1,400 patients with hearing loss and vertigo who were diagnosed with hyperlipidemia. Hypothyroidism has also been implied as a potential cause of neuro-otologic dysfunction.118 http://www.michiganear.com/ear-disorders-vertigo.html H -
Thyroid Carcinoma - Anyone With Experince With This?
dogbesotted replied to Stormy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
it will be tough for a while as the correct thyroxine dosage is determined for your dog.. persevere. It is the same for people... my best friend had part of her thyroid removed due to cancer.. many years ago. I hope the doses are being split into am and pm.. H -
losing a family member is always heart breaking and twofold when you have a young child. Saying good morning and good night to Rocky every day is a lovely way for you little one to gradually work thru the grief. may the memories that Rocky made with you all remain as fresh and bright as the days they were made .. for then the smiles will return as you remember - even as the loss remains forever. hugs Helen

Brilliant news  So happy for you. Have a wonderful time away. wonderful news and she is looking good too. .. the oldies are such a precious gift ... i have one very very old oldie ( dennys Dog maremma 15yo and Gracie maremma around 13yo). DD is really showing his age but has perked up with the addition of a good mult B supplement and a supplement for cognition, plus a ramp downstairs, and motion sensor lights around the plac. He sleeps a lot and I do not see him move a lot but find him in lots of different places and occasionally lose him in the front paddock when he goes off for an adventure. He makes my heart ache each time i gaze at him. adding DDD- I Love Danny..he is adorable

sheesh! this is like an out of control people fight!!!! surely we are for the dogs.. for their right to be assessed and be rehomed to a suitable home. Greys just like all dogs are INDIVIDUALS. I watched in horror as pitbull type dogs were rounded up and killed because of an enormous amount of incorrect information ( even from DOL members).... for Dogs sake dont get on that round a bout. The gret rehoming people in many states know what they are doing Helen -

what just stand by and accept that gross animal cruelty and cheating is part of the greyhound racing industry?????? THe very fact that there are big identities and people of influence caught up in this will be more of a blow to the credibility of greyhound racing than anything else. perhaps the BLAME need to be slated exactly where it belongs on the shoulders of the bastards who for money and, it would seem, pleasure broke not only the regulation of their own organisation but also the laws of the state. with the HUGE numbers of greys being bred this appalling tragedy was just waiting to happen.... and now the greys will be the first to suffer as a result of the fallout. on friday i went to collect feed at a local produce store where the owners were whining about how unfair all the fuss was, it was all labors fault, the owners were just starting to make decent money, blah blah blah.. so big mouth here put in her two cents worth about why the sympathy with people who had knowingly cheated, knowingly broken the law of the state, knowingly disregarded the regulation of their own organisation? now they think i am nuts and i did not even yell. just venting a bit H Where did I say that the cruelty of the racing industry was acceptable? The fact is there are thousands of racing dogs that would need homes if racing was shut down tomorrow and if I turned up on your doorstep tomorrow with half a dozen homeless hounds would you take them? Maybe you would but the hundreds of thousands of people screaming blue murder behind their keyboards would not. I have grown up in a racing family, my father was a bookmaker I am well aware of what goes on so what do I do? I have two adopted greys myself, have fostered many, have driven many miles doing transports of greys on death row in pounds, have done blanket and food drives for greyhound rescue orgs, organised fundraising events yet ask people that are screaming in capslock what THEY are going to do and its *crickets*. As Maddy posted "outrage is free, helping is not" I gave a guy in a pub on Friday a spray when I overheard a stupid comment and then walked away shaking my head, I'm sure they thought I was nuts as well. As I have always said the over breeding of greyhounds needs to stop that's JMO and yes....I am just venting a bit as well. I hear what you are saying..i was merely posing a question. The numbers of dogs is the problem that needs desperately to be addressed.. thank the gods that horses only have one foal. Yes outrage is free ... i have been involved with helping out at a local "shelter" where the person not only has greyhounds but also what she refers to as domnestics.. ie non greys hounds. The place is like some sort of dog hell. A friend and I would take it in turns to go outside and sob. and yes we have reported this and yes there has been some action but the person does not see this as anything other than persecution. on another tack read this article in the Australian Financial Review dated 7 april 2014. http://www.afr.com/p/lifestyle/sport/going_to_the_dogs_in_good_way_TyS5YOl2lG2gQb1xwMq8Nespecially here: ” The industry, however, has faced heavy criticism in recent times on animal welfare matters, with the ABC’s 7.30 making allegations late last year about widespread doping, animal cruelty and collusion in greyhound racing in NSW. yet the authorities continued to sweep this under the carpet.. and now we know why.. member of the board were also involved. This made me laugh - having just read the secondary link from Gapvic's link. Just as widely known, and very pertinent. http://www.australianracinggreyhound.com/tag/positive-swabs Another hoot. How can an industry that is low grade sleaze from top to bottom pretend glamour? Reminds me of that lovely expression in "Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow" when she walks into the luxurious Casino, takes a look around and calls it a "gilded piece of shit". Perfect for an industry that runs on gambling, and all the corruption and evil that underpins it. (No different to horse racing, look at the rotten to the core behaviours that surrounded our two "best ever" race-horses, seventy or so years apart). my comment re the cheating was not inferring that drugs are not used but saying that the live baiting was also cheating. and yes the industry has worked hard to present a more glamorous image regardless of what we may feel about the industry, just a horse racing is presented as glamorous and exciting h -

not a grey hound but rather a pitbull. Years ago just as breed specific murder was beginning here. I became guardian of a 6yo pitbull named jake , who had been a fighting dog for most of his 6 years. My son rescued him from his owner who was being raided by the RSPCA and police and who eventually did actual jail time. Now according to pitbull mythology Jake should have been the worst of the worst because as people would say.. he had been blooded and therefore was dangerous. Jake was simply one of the very best dogs I have ever had the pleasure of living with .. and yep i have a multi dog house and working maremmas. Despite juvenile maremma challenges Jake never once set a paw wrong... six years of fighting and then to a soft bed and he loved it! Greys would be similar.. we should not murder the victims just to make ourselves think we are doing something about a problem that is caused by human beings. The test is a Rebanne states " It is a testimony to their wonderful temperament that they all passed GAP" H -

the humans are barbaric while the dogs are victims. It is so "safe" declare that these greys are dangerous.. how many have prior to this been rehomed by reputable rehoming organisations? and these would all have passed their rehoming tests. These people cheated as much as if they injected their dogs with performance enhancing drugs, they also broke the law regarding animal abuse and torture, and they thought it was "funny". They have tarnished an industry that was supposedly attempting to glamorise itself.. while some of their pin up boys and girls were involved in outright cheating and illegal activities... this is no different to Lance Armstrong and the cycling drug cheats.. until you come to the animal abuse.. why is there no huge outcry ?? the law abiding trainers and owners have been shafted and so has the industry. The offenders need to be on the receiving end of maximum penalties plus being excluded from any racing activity for life... and dare i say in order to avoid the waterhouse whitewashes.. their family members should be excluded as well. It is not acceptable to transfer ownership etc to a family members and continue their putrid influence. I suggest that concerned people write to their various parliamentary members, the ministers in charge of racing and newspapers condemning the owners but supporting greyhound rehoming... H -

WE BET:THEY DIE.. this underlies the greyhound racing and horse racing industries.. and as other have stated as long as there is a dollar to be made then shortcuts will be taken, animals will be abused as they are seen by some ( certainly not all) as merely a cog in the process. Greyhound breeders and racers are many in my area .. in fact my local area featured in the early part of the program. I have this terrible fear that i will spot some of the participants in the street and give in to my urge to thump them into tomorrow h -

it would be quite simple.. 30 days before the investigation was revealed should be the cut off date for transfers of dogs for any person who comes under investigation until they are proven innocent or guilty H -

money will always be protected.. as with all situations such as this the industry protects itself and justifies this along the lines well we have to look after the welfare of the dogs.. sadly the dogs will be the collateral damage in this ( as are all animals when the proverbial shit hits the fan) YOU BET : THEY DIE I applaud the ethical trainers I applaud the incredible devotion of the grey rehomers .. and I question the ethics of all who knew that this was going on and chose to do/say nothing .. this: YOU BET:THEY DIE H very few are rehomed. many get used as blood donors ( ie bled out ).... adding the "you" is a generic you not a personal you

I realise he was probably already toilet trained, as in your first post you said this was a new behaviour. He has learned a new trick (cocking his leg) and he needs to be reminded of his toilet training - it probably won't take long to retrain him. Out to the loo first thing in the morning, after napping, after meals and before bed at night. If he is totally an inside dog, you will need to make more regular trips as well. Give him a 'pee' command (or choose something you prefer) and reward like crazy when he does it. Lots of praise and treats. The belly band that others have mentioned is a great idea as well. Dogs can be like people - sometimes they need to be reminded of their manners :) this above plus a vet check for an UTI would not go astray ..just incase. but is sounds like the leg lift is not being associated with his previous toilet training...
