Oh bugger! A couple of comments: As it is a Mast cell Tumour..make sure that the vet put your dog on antihistamines BEFORE surgery. I would also recommend consulting with a reputable holistic vet as support for your dogs own immune system is helpful. Lucinda has been totally holistically treated since the end of 2002. did you get my email?

Jodie, With photos like that words are not necessary...superb.

Uncontrollable Urge To Pee. Stops On Vomit
dogbesotted replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Erny, what can I say? I know that feeling all too well...it is a sort of handing it all over to the hands of a greater being or something. It comes, I think, along with a realisation that you are doing all that is humanly possible for Kal and an acceptance of the cycle of life not being in our hands alone.. The plus is that you can enjoy all the time with Kal that you can...gather up memories to tuck into your memory safe. Kal knows she is loved. I thinks of you both during the days as I potter about the farm. Just today as I was in the veggie garden , I was enveloped by the sweet smell of roses....Dear Miss Sophies rose bush is flowering! a little gift from beyond perhaps. Hugs helen -
what a good boy you are Ollie....make sure your mummy gives you an arrowroot bikkie everytime you want one.

Pandore, I am sorry for your loss..... what a handsome boy he was..I adore black and white cats. God speed Sylvester...

Jodie, So pleased that Ollie seems to be settling. You can use a syringe but Ollie is a staffy....may be really hard to get his jaws open. I know with Jake when he did not want to be medicated nothing but nothing would induce him to take meds. I also think one of the benefits of holistic treatment is that missing a day or two on the whole will not hurt.

The dear fellow is still with me and of course his beloved goats....not doing too badly. THanks for all the positive thoughts.

I suspect that they are referring to drug company manufactured antacids. With Lucinda I would add her liquid herbs to some soup/broth and use a single shot drench gun to get them down her throat...she HATES ME! Then i would follow up with something tasty. How is Ollie lad today? feeling better I hope.

Jodie, Forgive me for asking..but why stop the marsh mallow? "The great demulcent and emollient properties of Marsh Mallow make it useful in inflammation and irritation of the alimentary canal, and of the urinary and respiratory organs. " meadowsweetIt is used internally with great effect on digestive problems, such as peptic ulcer, heartburn and gastritis.

Last week was a struggle and Oscar has slowly declined. Off to holistic vet on Thrusday morning and she was really concerned about him and even had a long talk with me about helping him to the bridge, which could be sooner than we thought. Thrusday evening he could/would not get up and after trying everything for as long as I dared with night coming on, I finally called a good friend of mine to come help me get Oscar into the car. I was going to take him up to the pens for the night and see how he was in the morning. Now keep in mind that he had not been able or willing to get to his feet for a couple of hours...as soon as he saw Donna and teh car, he started barking furiously, then got to his feet, shiffled along the fence line and then down the steep gully wall, across the bottom and up the other side to go sit beside the gate to his goats paddock..so I gathered that it was not time yet. Friday saw a frantic gathering fo homeopathic and holistic meds from all over and again my dear friend was wonderful...went and collected some from gatton etc. It meant I could keep and eye on oscar. Who was having great difficulty moving, his back legs were weak and his front leg was shaking. By 2pm all the meds were here so up to back paddock..and I gave him the first of the homeopathic drops ( which are indicated for pain on movement). They needed to be given 3 drops hourly until effect. Spent some time with him, then when I returned for the second lot of drops..he got up to greet me. The third lot of drops saw him get to his feet and walk steadily across the paddock. yesterday midday he trotted for about 20 metres down the paddock. So as desperate as things are, he is still here, eating his three meals a day like a horse and today seems good ...so another " Not Today" Lucinda on the other hand is disgustingly well..she leaps out of the pen gate each morning like a greyhound from the box.....she is having a ball. Cheers Helen

you poor things....what a terrible time you are having. Hopefully you dont get to read this till around lunchtime due to having a long and restful sleep in. Does the vet have any idea what is causing this? Maybe make up a list of everything Ollie is taking...and look for side effects. Send the list to me and i'll search for you. There will be a simple explanation to all this..we just need to track it down. PS Strangely enough I dont think that you are at all biased

well snoozes are great! in particular with your fur kid snuggled up beside you. rolled oats are soothing for the tummy too..so Ollie is self medicating . loved his photo..such a handsome profile! is that his best side or are there better things to come?

this is just what i did not want to hear. ! come on Ollie lad you can do it my boy. Jodie, this bloody rollercoaster ride gets exhausting for everyone concerned..please remember to take good care of yourself as well as you are taking care of Ollie Dog. hugs to you Jodie and of course special tummy rubs to Ollie Helen

Pampa, Glad to hear your girl is responding to treatment. Please know you are both in my thoughts... Racking my brains about the cause of the relapse tho. Hugs and very positive energry racing out

The destuffing certainly goes hand in hand ( or should i say paw in paw LOL) with feeling better. I guess you have a few choices here.... walkies or buying european pillows in bulk for destuffing. So thrilled that Ollie is feeling so much better.

Why Does My Puppy's Breath Smell Like A Bum?
dogbesotted replied to BittyMooPeeb's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I dont want to sound negative..but early last year the lad who worked for me had an elderly bitch who whelped and the only surviving pup developed extremely foul smelling breath. She started to go downhill quickly and crossed to The Bridge a few weeks later. As there was no autopsy my vet had no idea what was going on with her. I agree with the suggestion of adding probiotics to her meals. Speak to the vet about the worms causing a vitamin deficiency and maybe a vitamin injection( such as vam) for the little one. Veggies i would add only after they have been well mashed. add pumpkin to help sooth the digestive tract. Glucosamine has a beneficial effect on the repair of mucosal cells in the GI tract. Glutamine promotes recovery and normal activity of the intestines when they are inflamed. If you wish to spend more money then a consult with a reputable holistic vet may help. sending healing thoughts -
oh no! I am pounding the heavens on Ollies behalf. Hugs Helen

all is well. poop watch can be time consuming LOL. Last Thrusday oscar and i went to a local holistic vet ( recommended by barbara) and he had some prseeure point releases and reiki. He loved the reiki as almost fell asleep. by the time an hour was up he looked a lot more comfortable. Lucinda is being very picky so at the moment i am happy just feeding her and letting her eat whatever she wants.cant even get meds into her. BUT she is in good form even with her medial ligament playing up. Bless her as tatty as she looks in herself she is doing well. Have also had visitors: Zoiboy popped in for a week with Chino and Abruzzo. God i love those two. and the Z person as well.
