Some Questions: Situation Specific Anxiety
dogbesotted replied to Tralee's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
ok..i would prefer to see you consult with Gaille ( i have experience with gaille) or Kirsti. would also try bach Flower remedy in a dog specific formula not rescue remedy. Anxiety remedy is a different combination. nervousness and anxiety: larch, star of bethlehem, mimulus and aspen. fear: aspen, mumulus, star of bethlehem and walnut agression: beech, cherry plum, mystard, holly walnut, wild rose fear agression: mumulus, aspen, rock rose unpredictable animal: aspen, elm, mustard, scleranthus, sweet chestnut. you may also consider homeopathy . vitamin B3 is useful for anxiety. recent research has suggested that agression ( in particular dominance agression- I hate that term) may benefit from a change from a high protein diet to a low protein diet#, and dog with territorial agression may benefit from a low protein diet supplemented with tryptophan. #De Napoli J.S, Dodman N.H. et al. 15 aug 2000 "Effect of dietry protein content and tryptophan supplementation on dominance agression, territorial agression and hyperactivity in dogs". JAVMA vol 217 (4) pp504-8 also consider diet higfh in carbs may lead to agression and nervousness due to lower seratonon levels in the barin.* *Ballarini G. Heartworm Needle / Should L Get Pup Done?
dogbesotted replied to archie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I my opinion, the problem with the yearly injection is that should the dog be one of the admittedly small percentage of the dog population who has an adverse reaction to the injection...then it is not simply a matter of not giving the next dose..you are stuck with the result for a long period of time. I would not use it. Like dried dog food, it has been developed for the convenience of the owner rather than the welfare of the dog., -
well you know what you have to do now...share ALL your meals and snacks with Ollie..he has been planning this for years. Last night I was up the paddock with Oscar..sitting there taking a small pieces of mince, flattening it, making a hollow putting some meds in, carefully wrapping mince around the meds, and popping it into oscars mouth. repeat this about 30 times. I am seriously wondering if i am sane. Back to Ollie...the gas must make him uncomfortable poor lad. HUgs H

Jodie, You are Ollie are always in my thoughts. Blessings

hehe! nothing quite like sharing a nice salmon steak. yum. One of Lucindas favourites too...but it has to be mine before she will partake. If a meal make for madam ( made exactly the same way mind you..stir fried with asian greens) she will just turn her sweet little nose up at it. If I make up some for me and dash out to see if she will eat a morsel or two she scarfs the lot and looks for more. Hugs to Ollie...THE DOG! H

I was sure the thyroid levels would be constantly checked....but said it anyway LOL. Before an endoscopy have you had his stools checked for minute amounts of blood? I am sure there is some sort of test for this Lucinda was getting both Ranitidine and carafate (and regular antihistamines). ( i was giving them apart as well) here is a link : http://www.vin.com/VINDBPub/SearchPB/Proce...000/PR00154.htm Bet Ollie will be gald when he is back home again. HUgs Helen

ok then. have been mulling over this for a while now. some thoughts: as Ollie is also hypothyroid ( thats correct i think) has his thyroid level been checked recently? too much thyroxine can cause hyperthyroid symptoms such as vomiting. maybe as he feels better and he starts to digest things better he is absorbing more thyroxine.........this is of course way out there in the relms of almost impossibility. What anti ulcer medication is ollie getting? maybe they can be tweaked. Does he get carafate? In the meantine pounding the heavens on Ollies behalf.

sure sounds like *our* Ollie has rebounded well. Such great news to hear. Can you get some "gentle C" I got some from All natural Vets. It is supposed to be less irritating. I dont use synthetic C now on the stuff from rosehips. LOL Re yoghurt I use the biodynamic plain one from Jalna. All my guys love it. I only thought of a visit in the fur, as Charissa ( the holistic vet treating Oscar) picked up some things such as very poor pulse in the hindquarters that I would not have and Tony did not either. So sometimes they know what to look for better than we do. BTW Oscar is holding his own, and so is Lucinda. margali found her bark for a short while and is in the process of loosing it again. Something is going on with her....

Very Sick Great Dane
dogbesotted replied to The Greatest Dane's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
great to hear good news. I offer greetings back to King. -
It makes sort of sense to me. He has had a very sensitive and upset tummy , all that vomiting etc. So now he has gas! maybe due to poor digestion or excessive fermentation in the bowel. ( what do his stools look like? ) Maybe put some grated apple and yoghurt out for him to sample. I would be consulting with barbara or Sue as to what to do...probiotics, digestive enzymes, etc spring to mind but would certainly not add anything . BTW..can you easilyget to Sydney with Ollie for a consult? I feel that with the probs Ollie has been having a hands on consult may be the way to go. HUgs to you both and tummy tickles to Ollie

Uncontrollable Urge To Pee. Stops On Vomit
dogbesotted replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Erny, have read your post through tears but with the knowledge that both you and Kal will complete your journey on this earth together at the right time. How can you not ..your love and understanding of your precious girl just shines through in every word you have written. Thinking of you. Hugs H -
well now you have me shedding tears. This time of the year is emotional for me. On the 10 July it was the 12 month anniversary of The Divine Miss Sophie getting her wings, and tomorrow 12 months since I farewelled my beloved Jake. The hole is huge and the silence deafening.

Thanks for asking, Pampa. How is yopur girl ??? Yep Miss Sophies roses are still filling the garden with sweet fragrance. I do bury my nose in the blooms. They are special for Miss Sophie...being ever true to herself as a great gourmet she would eat roses! ( as well as anything and everything that she could get inot her mouth and down her throat. It is nothing short of a miracle that she never suffered a blockage of anysort duirng her 11.5 years. Lucinda gave me a fright earlier this week..she could barely walk, and kept falling over and having great difficulty getting up. PANIC!!!!!!!! Then a deep breath and i held her down gently and inspected her all over...it was a badly broken toenail! almost split right through about 1/8inch from the base. Must have been terribly painful for the poor old dear. So off to the vet. After removal of the hanging off bit and a full manicure she is much much chirpier. Oscar is still holding his own. I sneak up to spy on him during the day as if I only see him at mealtimes he is always around the same spot. As there is something interfering with the blood circulation to his hindquarters it is important to make sure that he can still move about ( as well a manage normal elimination LOL) he may not be fast but he sure gets about. So far there is not straining again and all the holistic meds really seem to have helped improve his breathing. His colour is excellent, his belly is no longer bloated. So for the time being all is well. Sadly on Monday Adam, my very first goat was helped to The Bridge..Adam was my learning goat and he reached a ripe old age of 17 years..for the last two years he helped me understand the full meaning of the term "silly old fart" bless him. Oscar was very concerned about Adam until I arrived, then he obviously handed responsibility for everything to me. another morsel of good news is that Margali seems to have located her missing bark at last! It sounds a bit rusty and unused, but is improving each day.
