Jodie..i really dont think it is arthritis or either Ollie or lucinda. Lucinda is loosing muscle mass and i beleive it is due to the cancer. However madam is as hungry as and eating huge measl with relish! Bless her she even still thinks she is top[ bitch..luckily the other defer to her and are very patient with her antics. Hugs to ollie dog H

Jodie, Interesting that you mentionthat Ollie is getting weakness in the hind quarters...Lucinda has become very weak and staggery. sits unexpectedly. she is also very very frail now.... nothing but skin and bone.. I feed her withthe bowl well elevated now - otherwise she falls over diving for a bite. But she has a huge appetite and just yesterday tried to do the dominant bitch routine with one of the other girls.. god bless Gina she allowed Lucinda to think she is top bitch. will be giving the lass homeopathic "laschesis" again tomorrow. hugs to both you and Ollie dog Helen spelling again sigh

Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia
dogbesotted replied to mita's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
delighted to hear that pepsi is doing much much better. When he is home i would be looking at a consult with a reputable holistic vet to get some support for him. Complementary medicine can really help. Cheers helen -
Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia
dogbesotted replied to mita's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
There are far more causes than these... any viral, toxic or other "shock to the system" may produce the condition in dogs. Some breeds like Border Collies are more prone to it than others. yep i know ..was just mentioning a few h -
Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia

A dear friend lost her girl to AIHA a couple of year ago and my boy Morris has Immune Mediated Thrombopcytopenia. Morris survived after several blood transfusions and a long time on medication. he passed a few years layer due to lymphoma. A vet friend of mine says that often they suspect some sort of other disease such as lymphoma or a tumour somewhere having some slight involvement but I have not read anything else about that. Both AIHA and Thrombocytopenia can be the result of vaccinations, the yearly heartworm injection ( in both cases it is only a small number affected but worth keeping in mind and insisting on a report being made). There are some plant and poisons that also cause AIHA. My pitbull Jake was dxd with dilated cardiomyopathy. It was a short heartbreaking loosing battle for him. BUt I would recommend that you consult with a reputable holistic vet as well ( I use All Natural vet care at Russell lea) Complementary therapies are usefull ( note emphasis on complementary here). Read up as much as you can about it ask heaps of questions and above all love your girl. HUgs Helen Note: it is a very common genetic disease of dobermans.

Anyone Here Feed There Dog Rabbit?
dogbesotted replied to koolietas's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
would love to be able to feed my 10 on rabbit...altho yesterday Lucky excelled himself and cought and ate one ( i am so proud of him as the first time he caught a hare it screamed and lucky got such a fright he dropped it and ran away) years ago when we lived at wallangarra our dog ate fresh rabbit a couple of time a week ( we would go shoot a couple) -

The Year Keeps Getting Worse
dogbesotted replied to dogbesotted's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
the vet called yesterday... it is not good news at all. no clean margins, and the worst for, of epulis like tumour and very aggressive. sigh. I am shattered. So yet another that we take day by day. As long as he is eating and having a good maremma time then all is well. -
The Year Keeps Getting Worse
dogbesotted replied to dogbesotted's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Jodie, Lucinda is fading but otherwise fine in herself. we have finally got the itchies under control so her days are not filled with scratching. Each day is a true blessing. Oscar is doing really well, both his vets are astonished as they fully expected him to have journeyed to The Bridge by now. But I think his devotion to his goats gives him incentive to stay strong, and of course he has Gina as his backup. Please give dear Ollie a big hug and tummy rub from me..... I dont worry about additional lumps any more with Lucinda ( have not since I came to the decision that she would not be having further surgery). Hugs right back H -
On the weekend i was playing and grooming my dogs. Guiness mcGuinness always loves a good belly rub. So as i was rubbing I noticed that Guiness had a warty growth on his gum line.... to the vet today. Before removal my vet was quite optimistic and positive, after removal he is concerned as there has been a lot of change to the bone etc. Hopefully lab results will be in Saturday am. THis is right out of left field. Guiness is one of the pups. I actually revived him...LOL so I am especially fond of the big boofer. ok he is now a little over 6yo and weighing in at 55.2kg, but still a pup in my eyes. Please keep him in your good thoughts for a good outcome. H edited for autrocious spelling

OK. I have a failed foster maremma Lucky who came to me via a shelter with not a piece of fur on his sweet face..domodectic mange. he was treated with ivermectin daily. Then when no mites were visible in skin scrapings we went to monthly scrapings then three monthly. he has never had a relapse. he gets supplements in his food. if your dogs owners had that attitude then she possibly was not raised well either so lots of attention to her interactions with people will be important as well.

Jodie, excellent then. I do hope that this give Ollie some relief. He is frequently ( ok constantly) on my mind. H
