ok.. I was just thinking about an older dog of mine who had problems with his pancreas.. and his poo changed.. became greyish in colour and sort of greasy ..uuuggghhh! not pleasant at all.

hmmm! does sound very sus. I too would be looking at blood tests along with a full vet check. With older dogs sometimes the digestive system needs a bit of a help along.. what are his stools like? H

my boy Guiness mcGuinness has a form of epulis! http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cl...;articleid=3057 he has the Acanthomatous form. when discovered it was already large enough to require the removal of a large part of his lower jaw... so we are just keeping him happy and enjoying life. I did not feel that removing half of the right side of his jaw was the right course of action for a dog whose alter ego is called Fox Bane.. he is a brilliant guardian . cheers helen edited cos not only can I not spell, but my fingers refuse to hit the right keys sigh.

allergic dermatosis also causes increased skin pigmentation as you no doubt already know. . As your pup has been on cortisone long term I would be looking at a full blood panel being done, I have had two dogs on cortisone long term and both have had side effects affecting the skin and coat as well as other things. Good Luck. H

Proheart 6 - Heartworm Injection
dogbesotted replied to Cavandra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
From my perspective given the fact that as the company itself acknowledges that a small % of dogs have adverse reactions to the proheart.. why on earth would anyone run the risk that their dog may be one of the few and that the drug ( it is NOT A VACCINE) remains active for at least 12 months. cheers H -
Is he on cortisone by any chance? my first thought was cushings.... or hypothyroid Cushing's disease (hyperadrenocorticism) Caused by an increase in corticosteroids in the body - either due to increased production by the body or as a side effect of high doses or prolonged therapy with corticosteroids Hair loss, thinning of skin, hyperpigmentation, easy bruising, seborrhea, comedones (black heads), may see calcinosis cutis; lethargy, increased thirst and urination, pot-bellied appearance Adrenal gland function tests, urinalysis, chemistry panel, CBC If due to glandular tumors, selegiline, o,p-DDD (Mitotane), or surgical removal of tumor; if due to high steroid doses, withdraw use of steroids slowly hypothyroid also can cause skin pigmentation. but then I am thyroid fixated. Cheers H

How Do You Know When Their Time Is Up?
dogbesotted replied to BIG-DOG-LOVER's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming

Gosh how i missed thsi i dont know. Lucinda has been living with MCT grade 3, no clean margins for over 5 years now. Heading for 6 years at the end of August. Lucinda has been primarily holistically treated ( same vets who treat Ollie) . Lucinda has other tumours and they have not been removed as she does not deal with stress at all well. Lucinda is now getting very very doddery --- hopefully she will celebrate her 18 th birthday on 4th August How is Jedda doing? cheers Helen

Looking For The Majick Bullet
dogbesotted replied to NorthernStarPits's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would also be adding in Vit E, Cod Liver oil capsule, salon oil capsules/ fatty fish meals. OH swears that the cod liver oil and the salmon oil make the difference for him. OH also takes glucosamine and chondroitin and ester C. LOL legacy of years of rugby. Good Luck H -
Ah.. hugs to you both. This journey is so difficult . Helen
