  1. yep agree that a vet visit is the way to go. during the day write down the symptoms so that you dont forget any or get side tracked.. good luck h
  2. my dear boy Morris had thrombocytopneia.. had 4 blood transfusions before he stabilised....he had several massive bleeds -- including one two days after he first came home. i awoke to find him lying on the spare bed.. soaked in blood. However ITP has quiute a good prognosis unlike IMHA which is much more hit and miss. he was given his wings 18 months later.. lymphoma. there is some evidence that seems to link ITP with increased liklihood of lymphoma. Good luck H
  3. sending you hugs.. it is sad that Felow needed release from his earthly bonds.. he will reside forever in his place in your heart.. and in time the memories that you both made along your journey together will help you heal.. blessings Helen
  4. sending good thoughts. CIMDA is a great group one of my guys had immune mediated thrombocytopenia and a good friend lost her girl to IMHA.. it is tricky to treat but there are successes. remember as he improves keep him quiet as there appears to be propensity for blood clots... good luck helen

  9. i am not surprised that 'pure bred'dogs can come up as having something else in them as initially they are made breeds.... it is only relatively recently genetically speaking that pure breeds have become so popular and regulated. H ed you'd think i would be able to spell "dog" by now sigh
  10. other people not recognising the maremma breed does not bother me at all.. it is when i am told that i do not know what breed of dog i have that annoys me or worse when people tell me that working maremmas do not need to be fed as they eat grass.. ( hello!!!!!!! they are dogs carnivores.) and when i say that as they are dogs they do require feedingetc just like any other animal in your care they argue with me!!!!!!! that really irritates me but i no longer try to change their minds just let them know that i do not have any of those dogs available.. still it is a worry that those views are seriously held by some H
  11. i comiserate with you.. i get ppl telling me that i have golden retrievers... i say: no sorry they are maremma sheppdogs OP then says oh well they must be related to golden retrievers sigh H link to bergamasco in australia very very tempting: http://www.mungadelbergamascos.com/puppies.htm?reloaded=true
  12. My Guiness McGuinnes is gone. His oral tumour(dx late 2006) became to much for him to live with and he joined his mother and fellow maremmas today. Guiness has been nestled in my heart ever since he breathed his first breath.. he was still born and i was lucky enough to be able to revive him.. way back in june 2000... not long enough. where he used to be, there is a hole in the world. H
  13. escape artists perfecting the techniques.... maybe try some stakes hammered down along the fence edge - holding the tin against the fence or some strong bird wire bent at right angles..... up the fence and then down along the ground good luck h

  17. hehe! speaking of maggots.. just remembered my old lab brian custard O'Doggle... when visiting int inlaws farm brian discovered a nice dead sheep in the gully.. being a lab it was like 7th heaven.. he gorged himself and rolled in what was left.. sort of trotted home very pleased with himself all green and covered in writhing maggots.. the stench was horrendous.. and we has to travel from gunnedah back to brisbane the next day with his lordship farting all the way... gross gross gross H
  18. common Jed fess up.. we all learn to talk thru clenched teeth to filter out the flies.... lols my phobis is rats.. dead or alive.. just the other night a search for a deadun reveled rat caught in super duper rat trap.. BUT the damned thing had attached itself to the bottom oif the couch upholstery so it took major planning and "bravery" on my part removing it all without actually touching the corpse or the trap.. H

  20. PHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a christmas miracle....how wonderful that Mollie is home .. H
  21. benign is such a lovely word isnt it??? Ruby is certainly one of the lucky ones as usually a splenic tumour is discovered only when it ruptures... thius increasing the probability of spread... everything is heading in the right direction... be patient Ruby girl.. you will soon be tearing about happily enjoying life helen
  22. dunno about what others think.. but i would run not walk away... too much potential for abuse of the findings methinks h
  23. steps in the right direction.. thank the dog gods. keep this up grover and you willbe home where you belong in no time h
  24. scary when you dont have a diagnosis. haemolytic anemia (IMHA) and Acute porphyria( unlikely in dogs i believe) are another two causes. it is also worthwhile ruling out systemic lupus erythematosus.. symptoms inlcude amongst many others -- rash and painless hematuria or proteinuria may often be the only presenting renal symptom. i am not a vet but have had dogs who have suffered weird illness that have taken a while to dx. sending many positive thoughts H
