my late "big bad pitbull" jake was terrified of those small brown beetles that hiss when they are disrurbed. they l are pale tan and look like a sphere cut in two with a head and lovely antennae and legs attached. jako investigated one as it scurried across the carpet.. it hiossed and mr jake shot out of the house and would only peer in around teh door jam... whn i called him into the lounge again he leaped onto the settee.. and searhced around looking for his mortal foe.. it was seriously funny to see Helen

Victoria - Australian Government Coastcare Award The Warrnambool Coastcare Landcare Group and the Point Danger Committee of Management took out the Australian Government Coastcare Award for their work in the protection of the Middle Island and Portland penguin colonies. The project has contributed to the sustainable management as well as the increasing number and spread of penguin colonies. A Natural Resource Management student working with the group, who had experience with Maremma guardian dogs at a free-range chicken farm, suggested the approach to protect the penguins. Maremma guardian dogs are used to protect chicken and sheep in Australia. The project took a tried and true agricultural method and adapted it for conservation in what is believed to be a world first. Now maremma owners are well aware how fantastic our breed is ... but this is wonderful helen

oh dont get me wrong i too like bandiccoots.. since i have lived here in 1993 we have had only very very rare glimpses side of road casualty etc.. but this year there has been literally a population explosion...they have made a serious attempt to take over the farm and a darned good one at that. one evening i wandered out into the house yard to gaze fondly at my snoozing maremmas.. and there between them were two bandicoots...!! the dogs snoozed on . unfortunatelyseveral bandicoots have been caught and killed by the dogs in the hosue yeard as well.. i have tried everything ican thinl of t keep them out for their own saftey.. the grassey areas have become covered with bandicoot digs I seem them everywhere when i walk about at night H -

Chronic Ligamentitis In The Stifle Of A Dog.
dogbesotted replied to Whipitgood's topic in General Dog Discussion
i would be investigating holistic treatment... maybe start with some ester C... build up to bowel tolerance( ie if poop gets runny drop dose down) ... large doses of vit C have an antiuinflammatory effect... it is also good for cartlidge and ligament injuries. it also will not do any harm.. helen -

Magnus was most assuredly one of those bright creatures .. sent to adorn your days and bring joy to your heart with the memories you made together.. Mystery Ailment. Any Suggestions Please?
dogbesotted replied to pebbles's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
hope you get results soon.. I had a maremma who was literally a growing concern- bigger and bigger and bigger- had bad skin, bad coat, lethargy etc etc.. plus constant eye and ear problems.. he was treated by a vet for 18 months for his eyes, then a friend saw him and said she thought "thyroid" i had him tested ( despit the vet saying he did not think that could be the problem )and by that stage poor casper had almost no circulating T4... nowonder he was in such a bad way. after dx and supplementation he became a new dog.. The vet who ended up treatinbg casper later went t work in teh Uk and one of her firstpatients waddled in and she said he sort of screamed casper soshe recommended thyroid testing ( again beingpoohooed) came back very low and supplements gave the dog a new life to.. after being treated for skin allergies for three years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! usually with a thyroid problem initially the sypmtoms are all sorts of little things! rather than something huge... and because the theyroid sortof acts like the CPu for the bodily functions problems can manifest themselves in smany different ways. http://www.canismajor.com/dog/thyroid.html http://www.itsfortheanimals.com/HEMOPET.HTM http://www.nzymes.com/pc/articles.asp?arti...thyroidismsigns i know i bang on and on about thyroid testing... for any situation where a definitive diagnosis is not obtained... and the symptoms are "strange" i would always demand a FULL thyroid panel done preferably by Dr Jean Dodds... if nothing else it will eliminate thyroid problems as a causitive factor but you would be surprised how many times the final desperate testing of thyoid levels reveals the problem... the teste are not immensley expensive. how very true... I once commented to a friend that hernewborn had a "lovely temperament" sigh. I can always remember a dogs name but not necessarily the owners name... once when i was waiting outside a shopping center to meet my OH.. a simply beautiful golden came tpowards me.. i greeted him and he came up for more,,, his owners were laughing asking me if i had actually noticed them as i had been totally focussed on thir dog H forgot to add.. that friend and i travelled to italy to see maremmano abruzzese dogs intheir home land... came back with hundres of pictures of dogs and sheep LOL
