  1. hope your dog is fine and that a diagnosis is made and treatment works quickly. My experience at specialist clinics has been the same.. lovely people, lovely dogs... compassionate staff H
  2. how is it going????? just an idea.. i have a quilt top made but nothing else... would you perhaps like it for the backing? helen
  3. some of my guys get car sick and some do not. magali would get terriblysick when she was younger, that then became lass.. ie she would only vomit over my shoulder onto my lap as we arrived back home ( LOL) I would then drive with a large towel draped over me,, later in life she did not get sick at all. i would be introducing teh dog to the car.. as follows: 1. spend time just having the dog get into the car and increase the time sitting in the car without going naywhere 2. progress to sitting in the car and starting the engine. 3. then onto a small reverse or drive down the driveway and so on. gradually increase the time of thedrive. take tiny tiny steps. this may take months but it will be worthwhile. some dogs prefer to be crated in a car, others like to be able to see out and feel the breeze good luck H
  4. actually they are meant ot be wild and woolly.. they are grogeous dogs with typical italian workingdog temperaments LOLs.. ie sometimes ima listen to you and sometimes ima listen to myself H
  5. is it possible to have a secure pen/run made so that you dog has a safe place tobe away from visiting children and of course to ensure that the children cannot intrude on the dogs personal saftey zone. I have noticed that whenever i pen my anxious dogs they just go make themselves comfortable and go to sleep... away from whatever is bothering them. helen
  6. ahha the sweet voice of reason...... yep it is time to pleasantly start to build a good relationship with your neighbours... if people are given the opportunity to understand why you are making a siggestion ( ie elderly dog with dementia) they are usually more than happy to help out.. they may be muttering to themselves about the foolish thoughtless p[erson next door who allows her dog to bark incessantly whenever their children are harmlessly enjoying themselves outside. go for it .. it is a community building step and a good one helen who still beleives in commjon sense even tho it is onthe endangered list
  7. What a wonderful person that Postie is.. humane and compassionate. If the world had more people like him it would be a far betterplace. I am so sorry that he was bitten. as for those who are critical of the dog biting.. the poor creature would have been terrified. I have been bitten by one of my own dogs who was in a difficult and painful situation ...... not the dogs fault he was merely being a dog. The owners need to be advised and if they are half decent will reward the postie for saving their dogs life. They may also be unaware of their dogs behaviour when they are not there.
  8. woohoo happy happy dance here.. i will light a candle of thanks for all who contributed to this wonderful outcome.. achieved against incredible odds. from the bottom of my heart i thank you helen
  9. One of my maremma has yeast problems. For a while he had anal gland problems which took ages to clear up .. we think his licking and chewing spread teh yeats spores to his skin.. he would get thick crusty sores on his tail, base of the tail and his back end. the scabs were balck and crusty looking and when washed off the skin underneath was red and weeping . He constantly chewed and scratched himself. His tail was eventually almost without hair as were his himnd quarters. tried everything until I thought of yeast.. bingo!!! sorted helen
  10. perfectly describes moving with dogs....... h
  11. if you have already sought a second opinion and that too weighted is against the surgery.. you have the options others have mentioned: keep and cherish the lil chappie until it is time to release him... teh time can be longer or shorter than expected. a hard choice but he willknow only love and comfort for his entier life. or you can give him his wings now ...... however i would take time to calm down and think about what is best for your sweet little pup - who by the way is adorable. My heart aches for both of you blessings H
  12. and there is a serious oversupply of total idiots and fools who should never have a dog or other living creature in their care. A person i workout with told me on friday that he and his wife were having trouble calming their dog..... then explained they had only had teh little chi in their hoime for a few weeks... they had noticed a little bundle floating down the river and upon investigation found the dog with feet bound and his mouth taped closed...... I continue to be duimfounded with these actions h
  13. altho i find it sad that these poor creatures die.. BUt what is ethically worse: using those who are going to be euthanised and learning from them before they die. or using animals bred to die .... the latter i find morally wrong it is a very emtional topic and thankfully will remain so... if not we have lost our respect for life. H
  14. i was about to mention that.., a friend had just had her 12 month old go thru surgery on both lebows... nasty but she is recovering. it is a nasty problem as surgery is not curative. H
  15. thyorid meds should ideally be give twice a day as close to 12 hours aprt as possible. this then keep the levels approx normal over the 24 hour period. as he has continuing problems.. what blood tests have been done? a full thyroid panel together with a test for thyroid antibodies needs to be done as that will help indicate waht the problem actually is. H
  16. Moselle, hugs. The loss will become easier to bear and I know the memories that you and Sophie made together will in time bring a smile of sweet remembrance to your heart and spirit. Rest in Peace sweet Sophie H

  19. i am not a vet but my vet has told me that it is okj to use pherergan ( makes dog drowsey but acts quickly) or loratadine tablets.. slower acting. hope this helps helen
  20. i amn astonished that so few dog owners have commented... this kind of regulaions leads to no good outcomes. seems to me to be another brick in teh antidog walls being built so effectively around australia.. get up be vocal be heard or down the track we will have no dogs Helen
  21. ok.. i suggest you join the maremmaSheepdog group at yahoo ( i am the current list owner) there is a heap of specialist help and info avail there.. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MaremmaSheepdog/ Subscribe: [email protected] cheers Helen ps. i understand what you are going thru as my sheep and gaots were being slaughtered by dingos and wild dogs before we discovered maremmas.
