  10. OMG! that is so very heart wrenching .. RIP sweet soul. we need to keep in mind that the heartless act of one person revealed the wonderful acts of compassion and kindness of the writer of the letter and the family as well as the two young men involved.. may the Gods heap blessings upong them Helen
  11. Aw, thanks. This is a real bug bear of mine. I'm sorry if I got a bit ranty. It's nothing personal, Kirislin, just frustrates me that it's such a widespread belief and one I believe can do more harm than good. love your post Corvus... i too calmly sit with my storm phobic dogs. This morning i was awakened around 5am by the arrival on my bed of a couple of old retired maremmas.. both with their eyes popping and panting like steam engines ... drooling as well LOL. In the far distance i could just detect the faintest sounds of thunder.. so up i got and sat in the lounge surrounded by the old couple and of course dear snotto.. who is younger but really not happy with storms either... i will add that over the years i have spent many hours sitting in sheep and goat shelters with several maremmas during storms H
  12. a good friend has just had this therapy done for her two yo bitch.. we arehopeful that the outcome will result in a better and hasppier life for her dog.. she is very young and had previously has surgery for fragmented coronoid process.. nasty nasty. H
  13. they arrived today.... woohoo... looks fantastic H
  14. BUT ( isnt there always a but??) the response to supplementation etc is dependent upon what is the actual cause of a low T$ reading.. also the "normal " range is quite wide so being below the normal range is NOT GOOD .. by the time a dog is showing pronounced symptoms of thyroid disease it is usually in an advanced stage. the blood tests for thyroid conditions should always include: T4, Free T4, T3, Free T3 and TGAA. i would also strongly recommend having the bloods sent to Dr Jean Dodds for testing and reports. http://www.itsfortheanimals.com/HEMOPET.HTM helen
  15. pitbulls are responsible for all the bad and evil that is perpetrated on the planet.. from global pollution, terrorism and all manner od criminal activities... oh yeh and throw in a staffy or two as well they are most likely the organisers.. what codswallop.. sadly many people will believe those idiotic comments. i now assume that because i once owned a pitbull than i am now an associate of a bikie gang.., or maybe an ageing bikie moll H
  16. i once saw a large billboard of dog collars each representing a dog who had been killed as unwanted or stray.. it was a most powerful image... graphic photos haunt me and are not necessary for me to abhor acts of cruelty H
  17. shame onthose heartless owners.. none of mine would ever be allowed to be euthanased without me with them.. i would never ever hand my dogs to strangers to die alone... shame on the knee jerk reaction of councils, the media and shame on the onwners who allegedly lock their dogs out..shame on all irtresponsible owners who do not teahc their dogs the rules of co habiting sfaely with humans a pox on all their houses!!! sigh.... it breaks my heart into pieces Helen
  18. When the Nazi's came Tapferhund, they took everyone...not selected household members (unless they were only rounding up the disabled, the political activists or the homosexuals that day). It didnt stop when they answered the door for Christ's sake - that was the START of it. You selectively comparing the two scenarios and failing the grasp the magntude of the insensitivity of it is what I'm taking issue with. The dogs aren't living in terror. Their owners lives or freedom aren't at risk. If their owners have the dogs REGISTERED they shouldn't be worrying. Its not like this is coming out of the blue - APBTs have been banned in Victoria for years. The requirement to register your dog isn't new. If people had obeyed the freaking laws in place, there wouldn't new ones being rushed through now. Please don't tell me that those who waited behind the door for the Nazis brought this on themselves. And council rangers = storm troopers? Hyperbole. Do us all a favour and resist the urge to share your comparison with anyone in government. Then again, everyone deserves a good laugh now and again. Seriously Tapferhund, you really don't get it. People are offended by your post and your only reaction is to pile on the insults. If you want to get angry, how about you direct a little at the irresponsible dog owners that have brought this down on everyone. While you're at it, it might benefit you to realise that you're arguing against a move that many many people in the community will support - the Nazi comparison isn't going to play well with them and in particular with Melbourne's significant Jewish population. well you will need to be offended by my anology as well. BUT i did not make a comparision to say the acts were identical nor did i place the lives of people on par with the dogs but the similarities do lie in teh underlying argument to justify such draconian acts. that is all and those who will not be affected will do little as it does not upset their little world. in my shire in qld the council allowed pitbulls to be registered as resitricted dogs 9 along with a hefty payment annually) then six months later changed their stand and demanded that the dogs registered be removed fromteh shire ( remember it is illegal in qld to sell, rehome or relocate a pitbull within the state) or euthanised. In some shires inspectores went door to door looking for pitbulls or pitbull lookalikes.. so forgive me if i get somewhat upset when told that if you registers your dog it will be safe. h
  19. Excuse me? It is nothing like what Hitler's regime did . Nothing. not wanting to equate people with dogs BUT the mindset behind both actions is similar... it is the wish to externimate/eliminate all individiuals of a particular ethnicity ( or breed) citing examples of a tiny minority as the justification. it is a simple and emotional appeal to the selfishness and insular approach of divide and rule which is becoming ever more popular. It is easierto cast the blame for all dog attacks on the rampaging savage killer pitbulls and admit that all dogs have teeth and big dogs are more likely to inflict a serious wound than little dogs. some muslims are terrorists but all are most deciddely not but in the media all are painted with the same brush H
  20. well i love dogs... the little ones not quite so much as the larger breeds.. i have owned: labradors, cocker spaniels, mutts, cattle dogs, german shepherds, maremmas ( and still do) hungarian vizla. and staffies American pitbulls. when my last apdt ( jake) died i was not able tolegally have another so i dont have one. The problem with breed bans is that it places a breed predominantly in the hands of the irresponsible and stupid .. those who see the breed as macho or whatever.. and thus perpetrates a grave injustice on the dogs. It is canine racism judging an entier ethnic population on the actions of a few. it is as some say a dog holocaust.. H
  21. sorry the news was not better. I would be looking at Milk thistle supplements whilst yr pup is on cortisone.. it helps detox and protect the liver.. can you afford a consult with a reputable holistic vet? H
  22. more c#@p from the RSPCA.. what drivel. what hypocracy. I am really sad for Lucky, but the RSPCA is well out of line with those comments. H I must also add : RIP Sergeant Todd Langley and RIP Lucky and thank you for your pride and courage.
  23. oh my goodness. i can imagine how terribly worried and distressed you are.. try to stay calm and wait until the ultrasound give a better diagnosis ( yes i know how hard that is) You dear Isa is still with you so dont let your fears ruin these days.. maybe a consult with a reputable holistic vet may also provide additional support for Isa. In the meantime Isa is tucked into my heart and prayers stay strong Blessings Helen
