  5. and remember always make sure you have the pedigree papers.. H
  6. You know how they say you just know... Well that is exactly how it was with Ollie dog... He was fine the day before and was running and bouncing through the sprinklers at the park, having a ball.. The next day, I had to go out and didn't get back until after lunch. When I got home my son said Ollie isn't well.. I came in to sit with him and he stood up and vomited.. Then he looked at me and I knew, I just knew... He had been more unwell than this before but his look said it all, he had had enough. He fought MCT for 6 years and he was tired.. So I called the vet, we took him up a couple of hours later and our wonderful vet gave him an anesthetic, we stayed and said goodbye and then we let him go... It's hard and heartbreaking but it is also the most unselfish thing you can do for them when they need to be let go. with all of mine it has been a similar journey.. you just look in their eyes and know.. blessings helen
  7. Good on you for taking on this lad BUT if he is in pain ,which it surely sounds as if he is, it is the duty of the carer to demand that the vet give adequate medication. we carers see our dogs more frequently than the vet and are therefore in a position to better asses those behaviours. DEMAND pain medication. Good luck helen eta: a full blood panel is also called for and also considre that the dog in question not only has an injury but is also away from his home environment.. that could cause a level of depression and inappetance
  8. so glad to read that Bison continues to do well.. even better that he loves his outings.. less stress is so good. Remission is such a wonderful word isnt it? long may it be used with regard to Bison H
  9. i am smiling in remembering my dear old Brian Custard O'Doggle ( from a long ,long time ago before dogs were regarded as backyard decorations...and suburban streets were not car raceways.. kids used to play on the street ) he was a shocking bread thief amongst other things and he too would bring the loaves home. One sunday he even arrived home with a warm roast leg of lamb!!!!!!!! I know if he had been confined behind a fence it would not have happened .. but brian was a neighbourhood personality.. and everyone knew him and would feed him and enjoy his company. He was a yellow lab. h
  10. well first choice is that it must be a big dog: then maremmas and other LGDs.. then all sorts of dogs my leats favourite are small breeds.. but then i know many who are perfectly charming dogs. so i guess i love dogs H
  11. what a great outcome. delighted for you all.. cheers Helen
  12. I have had two funny experiences with hawks.. once walking thru gully to my back paddock i was hit by a dead half plucked pigeon... at first I thought that my son had come home and was having a go at me.. but no.. upon my return from checking the ewes dead bird was gone with only a few forlorn feather marking where it had been. I think it had been dropped by a hawk. The second was a large frilly lizard that plumeted onto my car bonnet as i drove along the BV highway..... dropped by a hawk.. lucky lizard survived. H
  13. welcome to you both.. what a bright eyed beauty Cleo is... H

  17. I am convinced that Lilly will let you know when she thinks it is time.. in the meantime let her potter about.. I would be concerned if she took no notice at all of the Sulphur crested cockatoos.. sometimes being elderly just the watching is fine.. Blessings Helen
  18. when there is that type of attack i would suspect some physiological component such as brain tumour, seizure or thyroid problem. Not that it makes the incident any less terrible for all concerned including the dog. many years ago i had a dog that would just change in less than the blink of an eye. He was the only dog i have ever had that i knew deep in my soul would kill me ( i was really really really stupid then) . I think now that he had a thyroid or adrenal problem of some sort. H
