  4. did the vet do a T4 test ..often older dogs develop a thyroid problem and one of the signs can be poor regrowth of coat and becoming a little more portly.. combined with showing signs of snappiness .... i have had several dogs who had these kinds of symptoms and they have all had low T4.. another was exhibiting classic hypothyroid symptoms and still the vet did not twig.. poor lad. once dxd and put on thyroxine all recovered well.. just musing here... 6. healing energy speeding down to bailey now. poor little fellwo. glad surgery went well.. now its just a wait and rehab. I have a friend whose beagle had recently recovered from spinal surgery.. Dudley has had a few ups and downs but i am please to say he is now doing really really well. ( Dudley had multiple health issues which interferred with his recovery) H
  7. glad he is home and more comfortable now. poor old boy has certainly been run thru the mill. Re the liver spots: one of my old dogs had a limp in his adrenals revealed by ultrasound. I have chosen to not pursue further investigative stuff as we have fixed the blocked bile duct which was causing him agony. His enlarged prostate is now under control with a suprelorin umplant and he his a happy old dog... what more would i want for him. Milk Thistle is excellent for liver support. good luckk with everything helen
  8. yes i know the tablet battles. my dear old girl Lucinda was the most canny of canine patients and it was a constant challenge to get her meds into her.. i would put vinyl gloves on, carefully encase the pill in a ball of her preferred cheese. success! next time she would roll the ball of cheese in her mouth: glare at me as she literally spat the pills out as if she were in a pumpkin seed spitting competition. I did try a pill popper for the smaller ones: http://dogs.about.com/od/healthandwellness/f/medicating_dogs.htm http://www.trixanpet.com.au/item/pill-popper look at it as mental exercise of ingenuity for you>>> blessings ( and good luck) Helen
  9. these crisis and worries always seem to wait until the worst possible time to rear their nasty little heads! take a deep breath.. and find calm... all the worry and stress in the world will bring no positives and your calmness will help your old chap H
  10. a pain free night ! that is good news yep tramadol , like most other medication can cause adverse effects. Each time my guys and gals receive meds i check possible adverse effects both with my vet and online .. not expecting them but making myself aware so that i can quickly pick a possible problem. read about tramadol here: http://suite101.com/article/tramadol-medication-for-dogs-dosage-and-canine-reactions-to-med-a240962 cheers Helen
  11. I don't know if you've actually read the article but it was mentioned that usually, when he passes out, people do not go near him and the word "overdose" was used to explain what might be causing him to "seizure" and pass out..... Maybe read it again and then see if you can come up with the reason why I thought it was drugs and not epilepsy... point taken! h
  12. little steps of progress are fine... heading in the right direction is exactly what is needed. keeping the old fella in my thoughts and prayers Helen
  13. i know! I know1 Iknow!! he is the son of Mr and Mrs D Dog :) H
  14. pardon me but seizures are not necessarily from overdoses.. have you not heard of epilepy??? or does the fact that the person had a pitbull cause you to assume it was an overdose?? glad the dog survived it was a difficult situation for all concerned. H
  15. my former neighbours two staffies would sink like stones but Angel would walk along the bottom i think as she always emerged on the opposite side of the dam..looking smug and very very pleased with herself. This happened everytime we all went into the dam paddock H
  16. positive andhealing energy flooding the airway for your doggy now... yep it is a worry when they are ageing.
