When They Love You So Much It Hurts....
dogbesotted replied to MadWoofter's topic in General Dog Discussion
OMG ! Thats very serious stuff. Hope you are OK now. Nah the incontinence thing will worsen as I age and after menopause. It isn't really an issue yet but I'm not exactly looking forward to the day I sneeze and pee at the same time! They put some experimental piece of pig in the hole that was left so I'm hoping with medical advances they might also be able to come up with something to address any incontinence when it hits! Maybe sew up the rest of my holes? Ha! This same beautiful dog also likes to lie in a certain position across my right groin when we watch tv at night. I reckon I'm going to end up with hip problems in my old age from it but right now it seems to work perfectly for her when she hears a noise and needs a structure to push against to get the quickest speed up. I've given up worrying about all the toenail gouges on my inner left thigh from her leaving the 'starting block'. She also likes to include me in zoomies - kind of like when a swimmer hits the end of the pool and turns. Any part of my body will do as a trajectory. Too bad I bruise easily. Yes, I am caught in a cycle of abuse with the one I love! on a serious note have you seen a physio specialising in womens pelvic floor rehab??????? there is a mountain of new info out there now. might be worth a try.. earlier rather than later. that gentleness must be a big part of the pig dog.. my Morris ( AKA glossy morrie) who was bred as a pigger but his idea of pig was "roasted thankyou with lightly steamed snowpeas".. had that oh so gentle taking of the hand. he loved meeting and greeting people and would put on what he thought was his most endearing expression ,which my son referred to as a look like a shoebox with teeth, Morris would get most upset when people would be scared of him. he would collect the eggs from under the hens and gently bring them inside and place on the sofa.. he ruined me for small dogs and taught me an utter adoration and appreciation of dog as dog..in all its natural glory. Thankyou Morris. H

Holistic/natural Treatment For Kidney Disease
dogbesotted replied to honeybun's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
kidney disease is not something to play around with. If it were me i would be consulting with the wonderful vets at All natural vet Russell lea.. they have been involved with the treatment of several of my dogs in conjunction with my local vet.. they are a union of saint with regard to animal care ( I may be a little biased but not much) Helen -
i would investigate giving your dog Milk thistle..it is excellent for liver detox and support. (http://www.natural-dog-health-remedies.com/milk-thistle-for-dogs.html) Milk thistle is well known as a "liver herb" both for humans and pets. Milk thistle contains a flavonoid compound called "silymarin" which itself is a combination of several other active compounds. Extensive studies around the world have found that silymarin is safe and effective in treating a variety of liver diseases and other conditions, from kidney disease to mushroom or lead poisoning. Holistic veterinarians (and some conventional ones as well) have long been using milk thistle to treat dog liver disease. It has an excellent safety record and no known adverse drug interactions, although taking too much of the herb at a time can sometimes cause an upset stomach, gas, or mild diarrhea. Milk Thistle for Dogs - Common Uses in Canine The silymarin constituent in milk thistle has numerous functions and can be used to treat a variety of dog health problems: Liver Protection Silymarin and other related compounds support and protect the liver. Specifically, they strengthen the liver cell resistance to harmful toxins and stimulate new cell reproduction. As such, milk thistle is very effective in treating dogs with liver problems and related diseases, such as: Chronic inflammatory liver disorders (e.g. hepatitis) Liver tumors or cancer Skin problems secondary to liver disease Leptospirosis Pancreatitis Fatty liver Detoxification Because of the powerful antioxidant properties of the silymarin compounds, milk thistle is an ideal herb for detoxification. In particular, dogs who have been on allopathic medications, dewormers, chemotherapy, vaccinations, and heartworm medications can benefit from milk thistle supplementation. It can also be given to dogs who are recovering from parvovirus. Top Milk Thistle for Dogs - Dosage The standard dosage of milk thistle extract is based on a silymarin content of around 80 percent. Most supplements of milk thistle contain about 100 to 200 mg of the herb. As mentioned above, milk thistle is very safe on dogs. For dogs with advanced liver disease, a dosage as high as 200 mg per 10 pounds of body weight is possible. For other liver problems or health conditions, 75 to 100 mg per 10 pounds of body weight per day is sufficient to see results. If milk thistle causes upset stomach, gas, or mild diarrhea in your dogs, simply reduce the dosage. Top Milk Thistle for Dogs - Precautions Despite the fact that milk thistle is hailed as "the" herb for the liver, it should NOT be given to healthy dogs as a daily supplement. Some studies show that long-term use of very high dosages of milk thistle will eventually suppress liver function. Milk thistle should therefore be used only as a medicinal herb for the treatment of liver disorders and other health problems as mentioned above. hope this is of some help Helen

Relationship Changes With Your Dog
dogbesotted replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
Me too. I can love any dog. Wish I could be that way with people  me three! when Jake first arrived.. after i had sworn i would never have another companion dog only working dogs.. i struggled so hard not to love him but jake in true pitbull fashion refused to take my no for an answer and persisted in wriggling and loving his way into my heart. When he died six years later i was as if someone had punched a hole in my chest and slashed my heart. for 6 months i could not sleep in my bedroom... but jake taught me that i am a dog person and that the true dog heart expands to make enough room filled with love for the dogs who arrive in my life i miss all mine who have gone ahead to The Bridge. Each has taken a piece of my heart with them and each has left me the gift of a piece of theirs .. h -

Can You Help Destiny?
dogbesotted replied to Michelleva's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Wishing both you and Destiny a long and wonderfilled life together... i cannjot thinbk of anything better to give you than this blessings:A BLESSING May you awaken to the mystery of being here and enter the quiet immensity of your own presence. May you have joy and peace in the temple of your senses. May you receive great encouragement when new frontiers beckon. May you respond to the call of your gift and find the courage to follow its path. May the flame of anger free you from falsity. May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame and may anxiety never linger about you. May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of soul. May you take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention. May you be consoled in the secret symmetry of your soul. May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder. ~ John O'Donohue ~ (Anam Cara) H -
