Has a full thyroid panel been done ie these: A complete thyroid panel tests these six levels, plus TgAA: • Total levels of thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4), and • Triiodothyronine (T3); • The availability of T4, as indicated by “Free T4” (FT4); • The availability of T3, as indicated by “Free T3” (FT3); • The autoantibody levels of T4 (T4AA), and • T3 (T3AA). ? often this is overlooked with blood tests and the dog has not presented as obese and has not lost its fur in the "typical" T pattern some of the symptoms of an underactive thyroid are: weight gain or loss weakness, muscle pain, fluctuating body temp high choloesterol numbers listlessness confusion nausea vomiting very susceptable to ear infections and eye infections they may have a head tilt may appear to have canine cognitive disorder just putting this out there. have had several dogs with thyroid disease. The first took two years to diagnose... H

Many thanks Smiley! Yes, I realised this week that we are up to the first anniversary of diagnosis - pretty good considering the pathology prognosis was 4 months. I will write up a full update with pictures tomorrow. :) oh that is great news! h

Jelly.. I am in tears for your heartache and loss. Those beautiful photos are for us a tiny window into the love that you and Roo shared during your journey in the life together. THanks to you Sweet Roo knew what it was like to be safe , to be loved ... and you gave her every chance to heal her psyche.. sometimes the time is oh so short but the memories are indellible and the love remains forever.. what you and Roo shared has made you what you are today... a strong loving caring young woman who has been able to make the most difficult decision.. to do what is best for your Roo despite knowing that at the same time you break your heart... Remember if the love is not there there is no pain of parting either... blessings to you helen

A university of queensland trial of a new injectable treatment for Mast cell Cancer has shown early results in slowing down and reversing the growth of a tumour in the first dog treated PhD candidate and veterinarian Moira Brennan said the vaccine, currently in the early stages of testing had delivered a positive outcome for a rottweiler dog with a terminal Mast cell toumour in an inoperable location. Jacksons tumour had failed to respond to traditional chemotherapy. They need more dogs for this trialand are seeking to recruit other dogs diagnosed with untreatable mast cell tumour or malignant melanoma. Yep I agree with the above 100%... but wouldn't it be wonderful if the aggressive behaviours displayed by said "stupid little sh#ts" was acted upon with as much fervour as happens with the larger dogs? T. agree with these sentiments. H

well because there are corrupt men and women who lie thru their teeth ( also plenty of non corrupt men and women who lie thru their teeth) in the general population .. it is logical to assume that there are corrupt men and women in positions of power and trust. The police are not exempt from that spread as they are part of the general population but i would think that their %'s would in reality be lower ... H

Excuse me? I have not read ONE WORD in this thread that suggests that the owner of the dog should be condemned for her distress. Not one. No one has taken the piss out of her, or suggested that she should simply suck it up. Please resist the urge to make this all about you. Any of us would be gutted if our dog got shot. Some of us would blame ourselves for allowing it to happen, rather than sheeting the whole thing home to being someone else's fault. That's the difference I suppose. To me responsible dog owners are those who accept responsibility for what happens to their dogs. They don't necessarily have to be happy about it.. Got to love all the ballistics experts this thread has revealed. Plenty of judging going on in that regard. at no point did i suggest that the owner should feel those sentiments nor that others have directly said that.but many comments seem to imply that this can be a reasonable consequence especially if you have a large dog.I used my story to illustrate ( from first hand experience rather than what someone told someone) that this could actually happen to any one of us.. certainly not to make this all about me. Dogs Involved In Fatal Car Accident
dogbesotted replied to DesertDobes's topic in General Dog Discussion
bless you and your husband and all involved. It is a small comfort to know that altho the owner has passed the dogs are safe and cared for.. poor things H -
soooooo1?1?????? well the very fact that it now seems to be OK for people supposedly known to the shooter and the police makes this sort of acceptable behaviour??? i dont think so! H
-
I am also goint to add here that i have had the police come to my place seeking someone on the run.. they were at the wrong address ( ie 159 instead of 139) and i have dogs who could have been construed as "agressive" towards a group of tense, threatening strangers.. so i suppose those of you who say that the police do not come to give out lollies or sell raffle tickets would castigate me if i was distressed about my dogs being shot.. saying i should have expected it...i beg to differ and i hope i never become so judgemental. shame on you shame eta it is bloody hard for a dog to be shot in the back of the neck as it rushes someone.. H
-
Have to agree. A barking, rushing bullmastiff is enough to scare anyone. I'm sure the police weren't there to hand out lollies. harsh judgements there.. being shot thru the back of the neck.. i can only assume the bullmastif was threatening to fart at them whilst barking! seriously tho even if the police wree not there to hand out lollies it hardly warrents shooting the family dog thru the back of the neck H

yep luckily they survived. hairy harry huge by the skin of his teeth.. he was paralysed for 20 days... very scary h
