Hey SW there's nothing wrong with a bit of feral in them - so much more fun flying by the seat of your pants!! We did end up with our 4th pass in Excellent Gamblers, one more to go! LP - that's an awesome effort, well done to you, Leo & Kinta. :D
-
Go Kira!!! We had our first two runs in Masters Jumping yesterday, I made a stupid mistake in each one but was rapt at how well Darcy ran. Both were great courses Sadly I need my butt kicked for my handling in the PM one though
-
I've been told that yes they can - as long it is for non official stuff. I.e they can marshall, do lead running and help with course setup and height charges. Scribes and timers are supposed to be members. Given the shortage of helpers at trials these days, I don't think too many are fussy about it.
-
I just wish the head collars came with some decent directions and a warning at the damage they can do. There are several dogs who are walked around here on tight leads and their heads and necks cricked at a dreadful angle. Poor dogs

Highly recommend the SAE - especially if you're travelling a few kms to get to the trial. I would hate to get up at 4 am and travel the 2.5 to 3 hours to a Melbourne trial only to find my entries never made it! Edited to add: Just seen the cheque comment, in probably 50% of cases my cheques aren't cashed til after the trial. Some clubs put a list up on the mailing lists or the club website of who they have received entries from, but I wouldn't count on it.

Darcy gets half a tail for brekky most mornings and has no trouble with them. Would love to find a cheaper source though.

How Long Did It Take You To Teach Your Dog To Retrieve?
J... replied to squeak's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
(i) what breed is your dog Kelpie Lab x (ii) was the dog obtained as a puppy or adult Puppy at 7.5 weeks (iv) how was your dog taught the hold/retrieve? eg: clicker training, purely positive, forced retrieve/ear pinch Kind of just evolved as she loved to fetch as a pup. Obviously wasn't perfect as we went through the not returning the toy stage etc but by the time she was about 6 months she had a really good retrieve which flowed easily into a proper obedience retrieve. She's a complete retrieving nut though. (v) have you previously trained other dogs to retrieve - if you have, did you find this dog learnt faster than you previous dog? No Darcy is my first. -
Thanks Steve, from reading that first article it won't hurt either of us

Sorry to go slightly off-topic Steve, the Aloe sounds really good. My girl is raw fed but can be a bit on the itchy side - no rash or flaky skin, just itchy occasionally particularly in Spring. Would you recommend the AV for every day use and how much for a 22 kg dog per day? She is also given Fish Oil caps or human grade linseed oil, ACV and a tsp of the VAN Health Booster and a Vit E capsule daily.

Go Leo Woohoo more pics are up http://home.exetel.com.au/wmphotography/al...s/_B8J0639.html Someone waiting very patiently for me to finish walking the course so she can play

I use a 6 ft for general walking but I make an effort to go places where we can walk off-lead for fitness purposes anyway. For agility I made my own soft tug lead by plaiting polarfleece and a strip of webbing type material, it is about 1.5 metres long. My dog also runs nude in trials/training so just a clip quick release collar with it. For obedience I used to use the 6 footer, but it's a very soft yacht braid rope with no loop so nice and easy to hold in my hands at the correct length (was originally a horse rope which I added a clip too )

Anyone Here From Knox Obedience Club?
J... replied to Gayle.'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Unfortunately that happens occasionally It was fine 5 mins ago Yep the vicobedience site shows everything you need to enter any trial, location, dates, judges, entry address, contact details etc etc. -
Anyone Here From Knox Obedience Club?
J... replied to Gayle.'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
http://www.geocities.com/vicobedience/october.htm Link above is for all the Obedience Tracking and Endurance trials for October. All the obedience trials are listed on the vicobedience site under events. Would be worth bookmarking it for future use Good luck for your first trial -
I think we're trialled out for a little while - pity though as I really enjoyed Croydon's trial last year. Have fun and good luck
-
Awwww thanks guys That was just a brilliant effort, I'm pretty sure I heard the announcer mention that the Nats was that dogs first trial - just amazing!! Well done Tassie And the answer to the Masters question would be..... ummmm no! I'm so not ready for Masters, especially if they are anything like the scary ones at the Nats. The teams events course looked far less scary, got a good close look at it as I walked it by mistake thinking it was Open Jumping :D Never twigged that there was no exclusion zone. No wonder the judge looked at me funny

Pippi's Mum and Miss Pippi were definitely stars in Open Jumping on Friday for their first Open Jumping pass :D :p Funnily enough I remember someone saying not that long ago that her dog doesn't do distance Can't think who that would've been They also had a lovely run in Excellent Agility yesterday just missing out on a pass.
-
Impatient lot aren't you :D I could make you all wait til I finish unpacking but that would be cruel wouldn't it? We got 4th in the Excellent Jumping finals :p We dropped one bar because I wasn't quite in the right spot, but I didn't care. It was just bloody awesome to have qualified let alone come out with a placing We had a brilliant weekend, Sat AM we got our 4th JDX pass and 2nd for a place in the finals, Sat PM we got our JDX title and 4th place. Sun AM we blew a beautiful JDX course with some dumbarse handling but it got rid of the ferals for both of us! To top it off we also ended up with Best Victorian for Excellent Jumping! Weather was brilliant for the 1st day and a half, but yesterday was a shocker once that wind and wet came in. I feel sorry for anyone who had to run in the pouring rain but all that praying to the agility weather gods must've paid off for me because our final was rain free I wonder if that agility weather god will oblige for just one more day so I can get all my gear dried and de-muddied ;) Hey well done LP - I didn't realise it was Leo's title, we can both start on those scary JDM courses
-
No probs Silva - I'm there from about mid-arvo tomorrow and will be there early Friday. Feel free to come find me if you need a hand :D

I know it sounds drastic KC but I did enter 14 runs, between Games and Open plus Excellent, with the plan to dump a few runs anyway. I didn't plan on dumping this many though I still have 6 jumping runs between Open and Excellent. Just means that I have more time to watch and learn and less stress trying to memorise more than 1 course at a time (always my downfall!) I'm not a fan of contact equipment in the wet, and I'm not interested in even considering the idea with mud. Nothing wrong with being a sooky la la when it comes to my dog's safety, I'll join you quite happily if I deem it to sh*t to run Ptolomy I've been told the Agility Nats are in Perth next year but I can't find anything to back that up.
-
-
I have no idea re the Perth Nats, have done some googling with no results. Would love to find out so I can start planning ;) Anyone want to enlighten us
-
Jeez girl you know how to put the wind up a person - all I see when I enter DOL is this post summoning me Thanks so much for the good wishes - what we need now is some heavy duty praying to the agility ground surface gods Apparently the grounds are in absolutely attrocious condition so I've already scratched all my agility runs. We'll look at jumping runs as we go - if its too bad then I'll pull out of the lot. Bloody disappointing but not worth the risk, especially with little miss speedy. Anyone up for a road trip to Perth Nats next year  ;)
-
Good luck to everyone at Hastings, I was thinking about it but I have a bad habit of screwing things up majorly with back to back trials :p I was told yesterday that the KCC grounds were in really bad condition but underwater???? :D

I wonder if they'd care to let me know how my dog was going to get everything she needed out of 1/2 a cup of light food, because thats all I could feed her and she was still on the chunky side I had some initial hesitations on going to full raw, but I won't go back to even the SP foods. My dog is healthy, shiny and in great condition for a sporting dog. She no longer itches and you don't feel the need to wash your hands after you pat her because she doesn't stink anymore either Her coat is pitch black instead of that awful sh*tty brown. Check out the coat
