Thanks CL - interesting info. More to ask the vet! I'm starting to wonder if it possible it is some sort of allergy or food intolerance that is somehow irritating her bladder? Vets redid every possibly test today to double check results and still found everything within normal limits. We have an U/S booked in for next Tuesday which is the earliest we can get locally. Also have Zee booked in for a check up at their usual "sports" vet on Wednesday. Do ultrasounds require a belly shaving? Because we're going to have to do some work on that between now and then - she hated the dremmel and that was just to use it on Darcy.

Dropped yet another urine sample in this morning along with the tissue - stick test results clear again for white cells, protein, red cells, and whatever else the stick tests for. Didn't see any value in reculturing again and thus pretty much at a dead end diagnotically. Vet is going to have a chat to another vet at the clinic for other testing options otherwise looking at a referral to a specialist. Another sleepless night coming up. Thinking about this some more - the thing that seems to set off her accidents is arousal - nearly always excitement (training/car trips etc) but why has she been ok for the last 2 months and suddenly having trouble again? Maybe the Feb issue was a true infection but this one is something totally different? When she has an accident she knows she's doing it - i.e she squats like she normally does, it's not like she's jumping around like an excitable puppy piddling everywhere without realising
-
Thanks tez, but it's definitely not submissiveness. Her urine smells no different to what it did when she was a pup.
-
I know they did the urinalysis and the culture as these were the reasons the tests took so long. Not sure about the sediment exam - I hope it was done. Not drinking any more than usual, urine is it's usual colour and she doesn't appear sore or stiff but she's also very full on and possibly wouldn't show it. Both dogs are due for a check up which I was planning to get done this week anyway, I take them both to Dr Kim at Belmont who has the benefit of being a vet as well.
-
Yes she was desexed at 5.5 months - I would've let her have a season but I don't have the facilities for an in season bitch and there are entire dogs left to wander everywhere around here. I don't see how it could be though given it cleared up and has now started again. There is no sign of dribbling or minor accidents on her bedding at all, ever. When she has an accident it's a puddle not a dribble.
-
She's on full raw SnT - thanks for your answer. Wouldn't they have spun the sample down in the first place?

Has anyone had any experience with similar problems? Back in Feb Zee showed signs of a UTI - got a catch sample and took her into the vet. Stick test showed very slightly elevated white blood cells and a slight temperature, nothing else showed up i.e good dilution, no signs of crystals, pH was acidic. She was put on a broad spectrum antibiotic for a week. Two days after she finished the course she was still having issues so I asked for a urine culture and she was again given a further course of the same A/B. Nothing in the culture but apparently not unusual given she'd already been on A/Bs. Tuesday nearly 2 weeks ago she had an accident in the car - something she never did even as a puppy and the same way the last UTI showed up. Took another sample in for a culture, stick test showed nothing and waited until last Wednesday (so a week with no treatment) to get the same answer - nothing in the culture. In the meantime it's only been the last week that she's managed to make it through the entire night again. I put her on cranberry tablets straight away. Vet has taken a wait and see approach. Tonight she piddled in the kitchen after she got a fright at the broom falling over. Nothing untoward colour wise. We did some training and while sitting on the floor with shorts on she sat on my bare leg and left a tiny brown looking smudge. I grabbed a tissue and given her a gentle wipe and the tissue is brown. Both dogs had a bath today so it's not dirt. I will be ringing the vet first thing in the morning and asking for some answers, but in the meantime does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be? Is the wait and see a usual approach given a dog is showing out of the ordinary behaviour toileting wise. :D This has been stressing me out for nearly two weeks now - I hope it's nothing serious

Good luck for tomorrow dyzney! I withhold breakfast on the morning of training - simply because I don't want Darcy running around at agility with a belly full of bone and that's what her breakfast normally is. Motivation wise there is no need to withhold anything for agility. Trials I normally leave very early (say 4.30 - 5 am) and if trialling in agility I feed her two chicken wings in the car as I leave just to give her some food in her belly for the full day ahead. I never used to and feel she performs much better if she'd had something to eat, it's a big day on an empty stomach. Obedience trialling - she just misses breakfast, but she gets a small tin of Natures Gift canned food as her jackpot outside the ring plus treats to warm up with so she's not hungry all day. She isn't as drivey for obedience so having her a bit hungry doesn't hurt. Toys - both my dogs have access to toys full time, quite often they stay in the same spot in the yard until I pick them up to mow the lawn. They only see value in them if I'm playing with them. Zee does like to kill cheap ones and remove their squeakers while sitting inside of a night time, but that's just a hobby of hers.

If it's not raining, open the windows an inch or two to increase the air flow more. I do this when I'm camping in the back of my wagon and it makes a difference.

Hi tez, thanks for thinking of her Finally got them back Wednesday arvo. No growth so no answers. She's managed to get back to making it through the night in the last few nights, but she's been able to hold her bladder all night since she was 9.5 weeks old so there was something going on. But no mistakes in the house and none in the car either so fingers crossed the cranberry and aloe vera juice is knocking whatever it is. Mentioned the cranberry to the vet who had no idea what I was on about and wasn't overly interested. The weather looks fantastic - so good to get it on a weekend to boot!! My dogs don't know it yet but as part of their beach run tomorrow they are also getting a bath at True Blue on the way home....shhhhh!!! You don't realise how dirty they get until you get a dog with white bits!

I've been to Kepala probably half a dozen times and have never been asked for a vaccination card, but I only ever go with a mate who instructs there. She knows my dogs are tested or vaccinated as we train at the same club. 1080 is bloody evil stuff, should be banned!! I'm amazed that there hasn't been any reports of poisoning down there, or maybe there has and it's not hit the Standard.

Kepala is one of the few places that will accept titres If I ever need to kennel my guys that's where they'll be going. Clubs can be harder to convince. A friend pulled some strings at my current club which got me through until the committee finally approved it. Zee won't be due for her 12 month booster if I decide to do a agility foundation block with her at Wbool at the next intake so it won't matter there either. Which part of Killarney did you go to tlc? I was thinking of heading down tomorrow given the weather forecast but I go to the road that takes you to Kelly Swamp right down one end. The first beach is sometimes piled with seaweed yet the next section is usually really clean. Last time I was down there was about a month or so ago - there were quite a few dead birds and a dead bull seal. It was huge! Have come across a few penguins as well, strange that in the last few months there has been so much dead sea life down there - more than I can remember seeing.

Jess - I don't know that they do at Wollaston as I haven't had titre tests done since moving back to these parts. I vaccinate bi-annually so have never seen much benefit in the tests. Thanks - I won't be vaccinating Darcy again unless she needs it and the titre result is the only way I'll know. Zee will get her 12 month booster and I'll put her on the same regime. Plus I need to have either an up to date vacc. card or a titre test result in order to remain a member at either dog club.
-
JJ does Wollaston do your titre testing? I rang one clinic down there and spoke to a senior vet who was unbelievably rude when I asked about titre testing. I ended up getting Darcy done here but haven't had Zee done yet, was planning on waiting til she was due for her 12 month booster and getting her tested then. Only place I take my dogs down there lately is the beach, will check with the vets if there has been any cases here.

Thanks tlc, will see what I can find bell wise when I'm in Warrnambool Tuesday. ;)
-
You find the same thing with horses - probably even more obvious with horses unless you get up to the higher levels where you get more men. Have no idea why it is. I have to mow my own lawn so that doesn't stop me, that's why I bought a ride-on - more time for dog training! ;)

Depends on whether you are using the old single entry forms or multiple entry forms. The trial secretary hasn't really specified which one you should use, only that there needs to be a separate form PER TRIAL. So if you're entering all 4 JD runs on the Sunday on the multiple entry forms then you need 2 forms, one with Trial C Novice Jumping 1 and Novice Jumping 2 and again for Trial D. If you're using the old single entry forms, then you use one form per entry - so 4 entries! ;)
-
4 entries total for Novice Jumping on the Sunday. Make sure you use a separate entry form for each trial i.e Trial C and then Trial D. Good luck ;)

Mmm interesting... that might be worth a go. She's been having a few toilet issues since I got back from NZ, seems with both dogs sleeping outside for the week that she's gotten into the habit of pooing at about 3 am in the morning. So I went back to crating her for a fortnight, got that sorted out and then the suspected UTI has showed up. So now of course with letting her out once or twice a night for a piddle is she's now got back into the habit of pooing then as well. She's such a bloody attention seeker is that it is really hard to tell if she wants attention or to go out to the toilet. The bell would give her a job to do in relation to toileting which could work. Where did you get the bells from? I'm thinking I'd need 3 - one on the front door, one on the B/R door and one on the kitchen door as these can all be shut at one time or another. Have you mounted them beside each door or just tied them to the door handle on a long piece of string so they can reach it? If I didn't have an inside only cat I'd just install a dog door and fix all issues with one hit, but Sasha is no slouch in the brain department and would end up hanging around the dog door in the hope of dodging past one of the dogs for a roll in the dirt. Never mind she has a cat cage that would put many to shame -spoilt bloody animals!

Ohh tez I'm sorry Disappointing to get so close but I'm sure it will work out for you in the end
-
Awww thanks tez She's completely fine in herself, as full on as ever, she's currently tearing the stuffing out of a $2 toy and adding to her collection of denuded squeakies It's just she gets upset if she has an accident and she's a bit funny about asking to go out during the night, almost like she knows she's waking me up to go. I've been toileting her regularly and before anything that causes her to get excited and that's definitely working but it also means I don't know if she's getting better or not. No word from the vets, the culture will hopefully show whatever the issue is - that way we can treat this thing for her. Will definitely let you know if it's potentially lake related. When does the new addition arrive? Bet you're excited!!
-
I hope the cranberry tablets are helping her tez - still haven't heard from the vet, other than to say that the stick test results were negative and that they weren't sure if the lab would be willing to read the culture plate early or have to wait until Monday. I wasn't willing to put her on A/Bs again either until we knew what it was but to make her wait a week without any treatment is not nice. I've added some aloe vera juice to her diet as well, willing to give anything a go if it could help her. Poor little bugger.
-
Thanks tez - that's interesting. My guys had a brief swim up there after a run Monday so it's quick but not impossible, if that's what it is. I spoke to John briefly today about a course of action for her, I didn't mention the lake as it was a quick chat and I wasn't in a great signal area at the time. She's not ill at all, no change in behaviour - she just piddles in places she wouldn't usually piddle in when she's excited about something. You would never know otherwise. She's back on her cranberry and vitamin C tablets as well and I'll keep her on the cranberry tablets for the long term this time. Has Jane's eye's cleared up okay now? Congrats on the new addition BTW ;)
-
tez can I ask a question? Did the vets happen to suggest what in the lake might've caused Jane's eye infection? Zee had an accident in the car again tonight - looks like her urinary infection might be back She's already had 2 lots of A/Bs and that finally appeared to clear it up back in late Feb. The original stick test showed a minor reaction to the presence of white blood cells and after she needed the second dose I asked them to do cultues which came up clear (not uncommon when she'd already had a course of A/Bs). I'm wondering if it's a recurrence of the original infection or something to do with the lake. Should've kept her on the Vitamin C and Cranberry tablets

This is the way I've been taught - pick a fence post (or similar non-moving object) and head for it, more worried about straight lines than anything else. I hate it - you have no idea if your dog is still with you or whether they stopped 10 m ago for a sniff. I've been told "don't worry about that, the judge will stop you and tell you to call your dog if that happens" I've been working on trying to do the same thing Seita has mentioned so I can keep some connection with my dog. I need to be more consistant with it as I lost 4 points in my first CD trial for looking at my dog.
