  1. Mine don't like having to go into the rain to toilet but if I pick up the lead for a walk they rush to the door and will happily spend the next hour or so playing in the rain and puddles
  2. I used to like getting them done on a Friday so I could keep an eye on them over the weekend. Young males bounce back very quickly! Just try to stop him licking the stitches and use a collar if necessary. Try not to let him jump around too much for the first couple of days but honestly by the second day they are usually back to normal.
  3. I thought more Australian Shepherd than BC Some beautiful looking dogs there.
  4. My boys were about 18mth; 18mths; 3yrs and 5yrs when we got a curly coat retriever pup. I loved all this chaos and was in my element. Sally was very energetic and strong and did knock the boys over at times but eventually they learnt to lay flat on the ground when she went into zoomie mode. I only wish I had it on tape! She was the best dog and so gentle with them as well as being able to withstand lots of rough boy play.
  5. I use advantix - 6 weekly from about May to September and 3 weekly the rest of the year. I still do a physical check daily in summer. They have a tick collar on most of the year. Yes advantix is expensive but it's part of having dogs. This is the cheapest supplier that I know of. http://www.pricelesspets.com.au/ I think heartworm precautions all year round are vital anywhere in Brisbane regardless of them being inside or outside dogs. Dogs over 3 months need to be tested before they go on prevention because if they have heartworm the prevention treatments can kill the dog. Heartworm testing and treatment is not that expensive.
  6. I have 2 BC's. Charlie likes to stay outside after dinner, usually around 6/7pm. So he sleeps outside and that suits me because he is a very quiet dog. He doesn't disturb the neighbours. Maddy likes to sleep under my bed. She hates to go outside after tea Although in summer she may sometimes choose to sleep outside. During the day they both prefer inside.
  7. I could on Saturday if you can't get anybody before then. I'll keep an eye on the thread.
  8. I've been reading your posts since the beginning and I thought that you had a huge job in front of you and wondered if it would be worth it...................well congratulations. :D Tango is such a lucky dog to have someone willing and able to help him.
  9. IN my next life I'm going to have a deerhound or wolfhound In the 3rd photo I thought he had a deformed front left paw until I increased the size -he's standing near a leaf! Pretty cute baby too.
  10. Yes, as long as the happy, healthy parents had been tested (and could show you certificates to prove it) for any relevant tests for that breed.
  11. That kept happening with me last night - I'd complete the first page click to continue and kept getting "invalid Token" Maybe the site was getting to many inquiries. Hesapandabear, like Noisymina I found the site did give the option of paying by direct debit. So the shop should have my address and my name and DOL name are on both the site and direct debit.
  12. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to register with MDBA and complete the disclaimer to buy the books?
  13. Great. IMO this is what the RSPCA are supposed to do. Signed, forwarded and letters written to govts-again.
  14. Check out the rescue thread and towards the top are some iders under Pinned: Guidelines For Posting In The Rescue Forum (including help on re-homing your dog) It gives some idea plus where to advertise. Post in rescue too as someone may even be looking for/have a good home available for a lovely red setter
  15. Thanks for the heads up CBL I bought 2 of the beds, they look comfy and warm and believe me it's freezing in Brisbane today. Maddy hides toys under her beds then digs for them, they don't last too long
  16. In Qld it is only 3 working days.
  17. I was going to suggest seeing a behaviourist and billing the dogs owner. And I agree with everyone else
  18. This is what "hits home" for me. Most dogs in Australia are bred for the pet market so socialisation and health are really important. I think pups need to be exposed to family living and noises before they leave their mum at 8 weeks. Pups that are farmed in large numbers miss out on this important socialisation.
  19. I would and have left my border collies inside the house unattended for 5/6 hrs and they are fine but they are 6 and 3yrs
  20. I imagine it it http://www.awlqld.com.au/ they do have a good reputation in Qld.
  21. I have no problem with their "rules" as long as they don't break the law of the country they are in. Such as taking dogs in taxis. Religious leaders need to make this quite clear. They should view this as they do other working dogs. IMO a lot of religions have or have had funny little rules over time.
  22. I think they should be charged with theft of/destroying a working animal worth £50,000 plus vet costs and trauma to both the dog, owner and the Blind Society I can't imagine how a blind person would feel hearing their dog attacked and not knowing how to help them
  23. As hard as it is you do need to calm down as your dog will pick up on your fear. Take photos of the injuries and get your vet to give you a report too so you can give a copy to the council. As soon as he is physically able to I would arrange play dates with others with very calm, friendly dogs so you pup gets over any anxieties. Maybe ask here on DOL for people to meet with your pup.
