  1. Sorry, bit OT but how common are LSC GSDs? There is a long coat that appears in Rottweilers, hard to know how aften though as you don't see or hear of them in regular showing circles
  2. It was a little boy with a facial injury. There were quite a few photos shown of him with RRs so he might be an exhibitor's child? No mention of circumstances, only shots of other exhibitors, his injuries and the unrelated other recent incident. Eta: snap Paptacular, I was too slow posting
  3. Thanks for the updates everyone & special thanks to Sway for your efforts over the whole show :)
  4. Erin, have a look at a Rivers store or on their site. You can pick up some pretty athletic-type shoes that have good grip, look nice & are not too chunky to wear with a skirt. They are a cheap way to see if you like that sort of style & if you do, maybe consider some Sketchers, they are super comfortable :)
  5. Knee length or just sitting on the knee is as far as it should go, no matter how old or what shape the handler is in. There's no need to look less than classy or show everyone what you had for breakfast :)
  6. Correct. Dogs Vic showed purebred dogs of various breeds that could be mistaken for restricted breeds to the untrained eye. The idea was to show what these recognised, ANKC acknowledged purebreed dogs looked like, to assist with identification when the council officers were out in the field.
  7. Being less than ecstatic with the potential outcome should never turn people off reporting. There are always varying opinions on what the outcome should be, but the most important thing is that there is now a record and there is an outcome, even if the victim is not totally happy. If there are no reports of even harassing or threatening behaviour, how does the council know they have a problem on their hands? If the behaviour escalates and someone/somedog is seriously hurt, but the council have no record of all the behaviour leading up to it because noone has bothered to report it, in the eyes of the council it is a first time offence and that in itself can lead to a 'lighter' penalty than would befit a serial offender.
  8. You don't have to go to the council, you can speak to an Animal Management Officer over the phone and complete a report. Make sure you ask them to send you a copy of the report and ask them to follow up with you on the outcome of their investigation. You might have to follow up with more calls & 'remind' them, but let them know you want some feedback. Councils also have after hours services so even if you see the dog do something like that again outside office hours, you can still call the council & ask for an AMO to attend A number of councils are currently focussing on dogs on beaches, so you might find them really helpful
  9. Euzkadi Kennels are in SA, their website is very thorough re good & bad points of breed etc www.euzkadi.com.au The barking thing would put me off to be honest, plus they can be quite independant thinkers. After Rotts who will go to the ends of the earth to please their people, I would find that quite 'challenging' They are absolutely lovely with their families though, so devoted.
  10. Said something on the news about a horse that he extracted some teeth from? Horse then got infected, absessed etc Must be a lot more to it to wind up in court

  12. Er Donatella, I think you will find that Jacqui835 is being facetious. Maybe take a deep breath...... But thanks for choosing to bring up stats about another breed to take the 'spotlight' off yours  Very constructive.
  13. For those that missed the live discussion, you can listen to the full hour here http://www.abc.net.au/local/audio/2011/12/05/3383867.htm?site=melbourne&microsite=faine&section=latest&date=(none)
  14. Check out the first photo in the slide show of the 'Schnauzer'
  15. Lots of punctures & horrendous bruising, those poor people & their dogs. I already am on high alert walking around our neighbourhood with a pram & a Rottweiler, there are a number of repeat offenders re roaming & thrashing against gates. It's not a relaxing experience a lot of the time I'm our council's nightmare, I report everything. They're really good, quick to react (I see them driving around)
  16. From a legislative point of view, doesn't matter if they're Rottweilers or Poodles, it doesn't appear to involve restricted breeds. As other poster said, might be to determine if one or both are involved. The media lately have loved labelling breeds ASAP & then not retracting or changing details once it becomes apparent that the dog/s involved are not what was first thought. Rottweilers are one of those breeds that sadly have some media 'mileage' as there is a segment of society that thinks they are evil
  17. The way I understand it is that in Victoria due to their recent legislation it IS more serious for the owners involved if the dogs are deemed to be 'pit bulls' than another breed
  18. I thought that statement meant that the consequences for the owner are more serious, not that the attack itself is less serious.
  19. No rule as far as I know in SA, you often see the juniors practising either before judging or after judging In the morning they're practising with their dogs for handlers at lunchtime and after they're working on what they stuffed up eta: I would hate to see the little ones getting chased out of the rings, they need all the enccouragement they can get IMO
  20. As far as I'm aware, there were no critiques written at Adelaide Royal. There were only 2 judges who were both flat out during very long days The judges did make some notes about their CC/BOB winners which were published in DNA
  21. The US have also introduced Gold, Silver & Bronze levels of Gr Ch status, maybe that's where you heard it
  22. Sorry, someone else will have to fill that in. Handler had blonde shoulder length hair if that's any help? Thanks for the CKCS info BB, I was watching from across the grounds
