Thanks Slowly, slowly. He hasn't lost the rice he ate when we got home.

OMG! Our dogs went to the same school! :p Both came out with the same results too! Good luck for the vets and hope Cody keeps improving ;) We went to the vet. They said, assuming he doesn't vomit again they'll assume it's gastro. Since he started getting well on his own. I think he's still feeling a bit off because he's only eaten half the rice I've given him and then gone back to bed. But he was so excited to get food. I know when people get gastro it can take a few days for their stomachs to fully settle, I guess dogs are the same.

Thanks. That's definitely something to keep in mind. Good news this morning. Cody is happy. He's had chicken broth and licked the bowl clean and he's back to assuming every time I move it is to get him something to eat. I've also collected a number one & a number two sample to take to the vet this afternoon. He'd have to be starving by now since the only solid food he's kept down since Friday is a cup of rice. I haven't given him any solid food yet today though. I'm going to call the vet and see if he needs to fast for any blood tests.

Poor Lilly. Healing vibes coming up. I'm $250 poorer for a sunday arvo trip to the emergency vet. All he got was a consultation and an injection.
-
The emergency vet said if he's not dehydrating he'll be ok until he sees the normal vet. Thanks, Kody's_mum. Yeah, he's not taking the broth. I will try again soon with a fresh lot. Yesterday he was licking water off my hand so I will do that again. It will be interesting to see how much he weighs tomorrow. He was 31kg on Sunday, last time he was at the vets he was 33 or so.

Cody is even refusing the chicken broth I made for him now.

Pancreatitis Flare Up - Any Postive Stories?

I hope Casey is ok. Don't beat yourself up, it was an honest mistake. -
Thanks Cody refuses to eat at all today. He did half a poop though so that's good and he has drunk some water. He has never refused to eat. :D We have an appointment at the vet tomorrow at 4pm.

Cody has selectively slowed down. He's still a mad swimmer. I guess swimming is low impact though. I'm calling the vet tomorrow and booking him in for the blood tests. Then we'll go from there. Good news is he's eaten some rice. The first time I tried, he got through about a quarter of a cup and wasn't interested in any more. The next time, he was interested in the idea but couldn't actually eat. Now he's just polished off a whole cup. I think that's enough for now though. He's still pretty wiped out.

He hasn't thrown up the water. That's good, I guess. Just got home from the arm & a leg vet. He's had an injection to stop him spewing. If he starts again once the injection wears off in 24 hours, he'll have further tests at the normal vet. Thanks for the advice, everyone.

He's not interested in food and not drinking the quantities he normally does. He'll have chicken and rice for dinner but I am taking the advice to let his tummy rest today. He's not interested anyway. We're not in a tick area, the thought did cross my mind and if we lived in an area with ticks it would have been the first thing I checked. I took him out to say hi to his favourite neighbours and he didn't perform his usual tricks for them. They said he looked sick. He's slowing down in general, he can't go the distance on walks any more. He used to be up for 6km (which is two laps of the mountain we live near) with running and silliness, now he won't go 3km. We have to turn back early. I guess there have been signs which on their own don't seem like much but all together add up to a dog who is getting old. I really do hope I am over reacting as I am known to do. I just feel so bad for my boy.

Thanks for the advice. He is a little brighter this morning but he's still not himself. I'm keeping an eye on him today to see what happens. He'll have some chicken and rice for dinner. He's done a poop this morning and it looked normal. If it was coming out both ends in a mess, we'd be off to the vet, no question. He hasn't eaten anything weird, he's not destructo dog so I'm not concerned he may have eaten something he shouldn't. Sorry Atlas. :D I'm so glad I had two waterproof covers on his bed. It meant I could wash one and not worry so much about cleaning the mattress if he had another spew, which he didn't because I think his tummy was pretty empty.

I came out to check on Cody as last night he threw up all his food and tonight he only ate half of it and refused all further offerings. I knelt down at his bed, hadn't turned the light on, and put my hand in a big pile of vomit. Light goes on and I see the pile I put my hand in is one of two, I'm guessing it's the second pile because the other one is bigger and chunkier, the pile I put my hand in is slimier too. Also, he's thrown up on his bed. That tells me it was either really urgent and he had no warning or he was feeling too crappy to get up and throw up on the rug like he did last night. It could be that it's after 4am and he expects to be sleeping but he looks like crap (well, he is sleeping now but he spent a few minutes looking at me and there's no spark there. I guess I'd have no spark if I'd thrown up two nights in a row). I have money to take him to the vet. Would it be wrong to wait until Monday though? The normal vet won't be open on a Sunday and the emergency vet will cost an arm & a leg. Don't get me wrong, if he needs the arm & a leg vet he will get it. I guess I'll play it by ear. I just gave him a little piece of banana because I was starving, I figure he must be too. He was interested and ate it. It was only a little bit, will see how it lasts.

I'll be on the list. There have been some freaking morons on this forum. I wish there was a way to cleanse the gene pool of them all. Oh and the trolls, don't get me started on the trolls. However, on the topic at hand, I would say desex the dog. Leave the breeding to people who have spent a long time researching and not just done things because they had a cute puppy. Of course you could have an experienced breeder mentor you and work your way towards having a litter. Whatever works.

Will Water Loving Dogs Swim And Swim And Swim
7464 replied to Lucy's mama's topic in General Dog Discussion
Cody loves to swim but he's a self regulating dog. He spends plenty of time chewing sticks and rolling in smelly stuff. He'd happily spend the whole day in and out of the water but no, I doubt he'd swim himself to exhaustion. I did know someone who had a Lab nearly drown after following their boat all day. It exhausted itself to the point it needed rescuing. -
This thread is lame.

My plan would be to leave her at your place. I'd hang out with her, feed, walk, play etc but then leave her over night. Other wise, she can hang out here if you think she'd cope. I'm open to suggestion. I just know I will never leave Cody in a kennel.

Want me to dog sit for you?

Any dog of mine has never had the chance to find out what human face tastes like. It's turns my stomach to think of it. So, I have no answer for the original question. I just know that the one time someone else's dog licked me, I launched into the bathroom to wash it off. It's like backs to the wall, don't drop the soap...

Good thinking, loveastaff2010. There will be other adorable puppies.
-
I made the mistake of just believing what a breeder told me rather than looking at papers (which in the end I found out don't exist). I got a dog who was diagnosed with hip dysplaysia at 6 months old. I also found the breeder had left town without telling anyone when I went to tell her about it. It's simply not worth it when there are so many reputable breeders who will be honest and are able to provide all proof their dogs are of sound health.

Could be lethal if he did chew it. A gut full of polystyrene beans can't be good. Teebs, would he chew a mattress? I had one made for Cody, it cost me $100 and it's about 110cm square.

My Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Keeps Eating Sticks
7464 replied to Jason Cyr's topic in General Dog Discussion
Jason, I hope you can sort something out if it is proving dangerous for your dog. Maybe the basket muzzle would be a good idea. You'll just have to tell everyone who asks that it's not on because you have a dangerous dog. Aaaaw, he is just beautiful! Thanks. I am totally in love. -
My Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Keeps Eating Sticks
7464 replied to Jason Cyr's topic in General Dog Discussion
My Golden Retriever is stick crazy. He chews them, shreds the bark if he can. He doesn't eat the bits he pulls off (although I'm sure the odd bit goes down). I'm ok with it. He's 9.5 years old and his teeth are in great shape. Really quite clean too. He's not a big toy chewer, he hasn't destroyed a toy in over 6 years.
