  1. Cripes Fang. The good thing is that you now have some answers at least. Good luck with the anti's and future tests!!
  2. What's on at KCC this weekend dyz? eta: what's Power Blend?
  3. yes I'd say that that would be a common 'problem' Mav.
  4. cripes PME that is some ordeal. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer as I'm sure it wasn't easy.
  5. I was thinking that ongoing cartrophen injections had side effects on other parts of the dogs health. Is this not right?
  6. Oooo congrats and well done on the sponsorship! Wish I was in town as I would soooo love to head on over for a gander.
  7. Yeah I think that it has helped him a bit. He's not skipping, but is moving more comfortably. If a dog is out of alignment in the front shoulders I have been told that they can trip and stumble/fall. Once adjusted by a good animal chiropractor and in alignment they will have no pain from pinched nerves and will move a lot more freely. That has certainly been the case with me, after trying many animal chiropractors, my mobile animal chiropractor has got my boy steady and even on all 4's again and he's nearly 11 now! Keep in mind that many vets consider chiro a waste of time. I'm planning on getting a masseuse to come and work on him (when we're next home long enough ) as I think it will help the old boy. Do you worry about ongoing cartrophen injections though harley?
  8. PME is there a thread regarding your probs with Em? If not, mind if I ask what the problem was etc? The vet said that the urine tests showed his kidneys are functioning properly and the glucose result was normal too, so she said it wouldn't be diabetes or a problem with his kidneys. She also said that he seemed very well and that it was therefore very unlikely to be diabetes. I am worried about him, but the vets explanation makes sense to me and I am really stressed about money at the moment... :/ China drinks more than what I consider normal, BUT it is not a consistent thing and happens when she is anxious/stressed/stimulated. I took China to the vet to get things checked out. At the beginning of the consult we discussed possible outcomes, I mentioned diabetes and she indicated that China did not present as a diabetic dog. We had both urine and blood work done... all came up with zip, zero, zilch! The vet decided that it was either Psychogenic Polydipsia or Diabetes Insipidus (which is an actual problem in the brain and nothing to do with the pancreas). The vet wanted to send China away to a specialist to test her for the Diabete Insipidus (by withdrawing access to water). This was despite the fact that I had told her that the excess water consumption was when she was anxious/stressed/stimulated etc and despite the fact that she herself had indicated that China did not present as a Diabetic dog. China had also leaked since she had been desexed; something that had been able to be managed until the water intake was excessive... the vet refused to assit me with treatment for the leaking until China had been sent to the specialist (despite my indicating that China had leaked since desexing). She did not listen to me at all!... the person who knew the dog best. : Needless to say I sought a second opinion!! Note: at the time of all tests we had just moved to the city and China was COMPLETELY stressed out of her head and borderline neurotic for the first month!... until I finally found an appropriate rental for us and we moved into our permanent home, where both the dogs settled immediately and China's water intake reduced as a consequence.
  9. Hi Sheryl... I think I may have started a landmine of enquiries and requests for sample packs headed your way from a bunch of my herding friends down here in Vic. Apologies ;) If everyone decides they love it I have indicated to everyone that I'd be happy for the food to be delivered to me and then I can take it to herding etc (as Nic already delivers to my place)... but obviously we'll wait and see how things transpire.
  10. thanks Nekhbet! He is definitely moth eaten isn't he. Even if I can't continue feeding BH to China I have decided that I'll keep feeding it to Bron. He loves it and is doing well on it! China... is a matter of wait and see at the moment.
  11. I have presumed it is environmental given they've been on BH since late May... but am considering switching back to Bonnie to see if it changes anything. Thanks for the information re the omega blend for dogs. Where abouts can I find it? Is that only if they consume a big amount on a daily basis? My kitty eats a piece or two once a week. But since switching her to EP she's stopped trying to steal dog food. Well I raised my Pointer pup on BH from about 6ish months old on BH. The only problem I have is the fat content, it doesn't seem to be high enough to keep enough fat on him, esp over winter. So I'm also feeding Canidae [as this has 20% fat] with the BH and it's working. I will only do this over winter. No idea if Berners are hard to keep weight on but Pointers are bad for it! Interesting. Thanks! Keeping the weight on China is a challenge too. She drops it quick as a flash! I go through 20kg a fortnight and I'm switching my boys back to Royal Canin. My DDB is starting to look like a moth eaten Ethiopian. My girls are doing really well on it so I'll stick to BH for the Mals and RC for the DDB/Rott. Thanks Nekhbet! Could you please expand on your moth eaten Ethiopian comment? Bron's doing a ok on BH (which is no surprise) and China 'was' going fine til the itchies. Though I am feeding them more than expected and I'm going through a 20kg bag quicker than I expected... (which I have blamed on the cold weather) I'm actually really going to be very bummed if I can't continue feeding the product as I really like it! ... bloody dogs!
  12. A slight highjacking... anyone know of a good dermatologist in the Melbourne area??? (for the same reason as OP... ie an itchy pupster).
  13. Really??? How much are you feeding them? I find a 20kg bag is lucky to last me 3 weeks at present. My guys have been on BH for about 2.5 months now. I really like the product that is for sure (and so do the pooches ). I do have a couple of questions though... I've seen alot of posts indicating that the food intake has reduced on switching to BH. My guys seem to be going through more instead of less. Not that it matters really, but how inconsiderate of my guys not to fit with the 'norm'. Also, China is a slightly itchy dog. Her skin will go pink if I change her diet etc, but generally it would rectify itself after a day or so. The last few weeks she has been scratching herself to bits and it's got me stuffed as to why... I am presuming that it's not BH as she's been eating it since the beginning of May... but if it's not that then I have no idea what it is... she's not usually prone to grass type alergies. We haven't moved recently (although we haven't been in this residence for quite 12 months). Any thoughts?
  14. Thanks rubiton!! Bron has started the deer antler velvet tabs this week. Shall post an update regarding whether I think it has helped in a couple of weeks. In the meantime here's the link to the product. K9 Magic
  15. Nawwww super cute!!! Hey Chewwy, slightly ot... there is a Mildura Poundies thread in here somewhere with some other lucky pupsters that have been sprung to freedom. ;)
  16. GRRRRRR... What an absolutely ignorant 'Green'!!! Do they even know the capacity to detect of a dogs nose??? Or the effect their sheer presence has on peoples actions??? Obviously not!... if they did they would not be writing or calling for such rubbish change! Such an asset should not be wasted or thrown away!
  17. A little OT... Mind if I ask the specific glucosamine and green-lipped muscle products people are referring to???
  18. Hmmm I guess not then. Well, in any case I have purchased some deer antler velvet tabs... fingers crossed they help the old boy! In the meantime the research continues.
