TerraNik, where was the show that you heard these German Spitz barking? I have a German Spitz and 2 Dalmatians. They all bark to alert me when someone comes down the driveway.

Sadly my 2 dogs have Sarcoptic Mange. Both have had Ivermectin injections once a week for the last fortnight and are being washed in Pyohex when i can. If there is anyone who in dol world who could answer some questions re this matter it would be greatly appreciated. Q1: When washing in Pyohex should the whole dog be washed in this every time or is washing the just the affected areas okay? Q2: Could the Sarcoptic Mange mites be still alive in the backyard? If so how do you kill the mites that have fallen off the dogs? Q3: What is best to use on dog bedding to kill mites?

Thanks all for the advice. Greatly appreciate it. I have some Claratyne here but am a bit worried about giving it. As the old dog is on tablets already i would only be trying it on the younger dog. I was going to take them to the vet today but i had nobody to babysit. I will try and take them tomorrow to the vet.

The possible Wandering Dew
-
It all began when my 10yo Dalmatian got allergies where the hair around his eyes was rubbed off from him rubbing his face on the ground. I took him to the vet and he was given a antibiotic and a antihistamine tablet to take. That was about 2 weeks ago and he has improved but is still itchy. I was also told to wash him in Pyohex(not easy to wash around his eyes). Now my 8mth old Dalmatian has been scratching like mad and has lumps under his legs(front & back) and some on his tummy. I washed him in the Pyohex but he still scratches as before. Well, i have had a headache for a few days now trying to figure out what is causing these allergies. I have done both dogs with Frontline Plus. When i get to the shops next i am going to buy Quit-Itch and wash both dogs in it(helped when older dog had a hot spot). Looking around the backyard yesterday i found what looks very like Wandering Dew. What could i give to the dogs if it is this weed that has caused their allergies? I feed both dogs on Advance. I was a bit worried re the 8mth old dog and the dog food as the one he gets has a fairly high protein content. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. To add to all this I have a 13 week old baby(human) to look after(I am a single parent) and we both have been sick. Also my baby came early and i have not got a new car yet(only have a panel van) so at present i have many issues. :D

I have been told to try Claratyne tablets for my 2 dallys who have allergies. One is scratching a lot. Both have been washed in Pyohex. The dally scratching heaps has small lumps under his back and front legs and tummy. I am also looking at changing their diet.

what is the safest antihistamine to give a dog and how much? When my dog was younger he was bitten by something on his ear and it swelled up. I did not give him anything and it eventually went down. Would like to have some on hand in case of emergency.

For Those Feeding High Protein Kibble
Annedal replied to Lemonlime's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have a 8mth old Dalmatian who i have fed Advance since i got him. He would scratch sometimes but it was thought it was due to it being summer time, etc. Advance Growth Large Breed which has 28% protein and 16% fat. Recently it has gotten very bad and his scratching has become constant. There has been plenty of advice for changing the dog food to a food with a lower protein level. Any advice on what i should do would be greatly appreciated. -
I use the Mighty White N Brite on my 2 Dalmatians. I also use the Silk Finish spray.

i don't feed the VIP rol;ls myself(am considering it) I have housesitted for a lady who breeds Italian Greyhounds and she feeds them cooked mince/chicken necks and VIP roll(warmed up before given to dogs). This lady has been showing her igs for a long time and has done extremely well.
