  1. Thanks Rysup and Pers Yep have removed all bedding etc before she came home tonight (did this for myself more so as I couldn't bare looking at it ;) ) and cleaned out whelping box with bleach solution ready for OH to take it back up to the shed - unfortunately the thing weighs a tonne so is not easily taken back to storage. have now shut door to that room until box can be removed. She has settled a bit in here with us but at times gets up and goes to the door. Besides this she seems to be straight back to her old loving self
  2. Thanks SwaY ;) About how long should it take for her to get over it? And a what point should I worry if at all? I've had girls lose pups before but they haven't noticed as they still have the rest of the litter to concentrate on. Not had a bitch phantom before either.
  3. My girl had a litter of 8 still births by cesarean section today She had gone in to full labour for a few hours before I could get the vet. She has now come home and is pacing and digging through the house. When outside she just whines to come straight back in again then proceeds to try and dig in, around and under anything and everything in the house. It was suggested to me to give her a couple of teddy bears or rolled up sock to 'mother' but she is not interested in them. Any suggestions to help her get throught his stage would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance
  4. Just keep doing what you are doing Paps, she will eventually accept the pup back again. Neapolitans are terrible for not accepting pups and we go into a litter expecting to have to hold the bitch down and put the pups on her for at least the first few days, generally the bitch cottons on (or gives up ) after a few days and continues on her own. You're doing good Paps ;) Mina is home in relatively good spirits, she is a little unsettled as to be expected. I am completely exhausted, fell asleep on the couch at 4pm and OH woke me with my baby girl at 8:30. he said she had everyone rounded up at the clinic when he went to get her
  5. Sorry but its not good news.. 8 maybe more babies all deceased at various times of gestation. Mina colapsed lung, re inflated but unable to breath on her own for several hours. I am now home and hope to pick her up later tonight or early morning? Bugga.
  6. Congrats Kemulvak hope Mum and pups are doing well. Well looks like we just made it into Feb. Mina spiked a temp last night due to stress and heat, managed to get it down very quickley and she settled down for the night. She woke me up at 2 am to go out when I turned the light on I saw she has a dark bloody discharge. She is quite restless but not really nesting (this doesn't necessarily mean much as she is a maiden bitch). Just got off phone to the vet and he is suggesting we try and wait it out til the morning (she will be having a c-section) as if we make the call to early we could regret it. So now I've put the kettle on and am waiting watching for her to start contractions...
  7. In the lounge room. I split the room in half using the couch and a pen covered with a sheet to block out other inside animals then I sleep on the couch which faces the whelping box. The area is big enough for the bitch to get out of the box if she wishes and a crate with door open if she wants space away from the pups but its only 3 feet from the box. My last bitch chose to try and sleep on the couch with me but soon got shown her own space. i will sleep on the couch next to the bitch and pups from 4 to 6 days pre whelp (to help them get used to the box) up until at least 2 weeks post whelp as having a giant clumbsy breed the risk of squished pups is very high. I agree with what others have said, you have a toy breed Paps and she sounds very confident, a puppy pen around the box will give her the space she needs but keep her in tune to the pups.
  8. How are the babies Paps? We are having a very uncomfortable time here. Yesterday temp reached 43 degrees outside and a very snug 28 inside. Mina spend the day in the whelping box with the fan pointed straight at her, I sprayed her down every half hour or so. They predict 40+ degrees again today so temp overnight only went down to about 27. Understandably she refused to sleep inside so I let her sleep out on the lawn and set my alarm to check on her every hour. At 5 am she became very unsettled and panty, she is back in the whelping box with the fan and laying down, its hard to tell if she is restless due to whelp or just bloody hot She is off her food (this is also very Neo in the heat) but not nesting, just laying down very awake. This really sux She will be having an elective c-section but its hard to tell when to make the call. If its going to be today I would rather it be now before the heat really sets in - dont really want to be travelling with her and pups in 40+ degree temps
  9. Woo Hoo Paps congrats I knew this morning that we'd be hearing something by this afternoon!
  10. Oooo sounds promissing.. day 60 is ok, just like us they aren't always right on time.. Good luck Paps, will be popping in and checking progress through out the day now
  11. Sorry KR You can add my girl to the list :D Neapolitan Mastiff due 3rd Feb (only just saw the thread) Thanks
  12. I cant offer alot and I'm sure others would have more vast experience but as noone has yet replied.... I have just done my first frozen AI from semen transported interstate so can answer a couple of the questions.. i was absolutely packing it all the way through it until I realised how easy it really is. I wasn't there for the collection and haven't ever done one so dont know much about that. I was there for the insemination and was gob smacked at just how simple it really is. My girl was put under, a small incision about 3cm long into her abdoman then the vet just syringed up the defrosted semen and injected it into her uterus, half in eah horn, used his fingers to sqeeze it up the horn then just closed her up, job done. When they defrosted it they did tests on it to see how viable is was etc and he said is looked really good. Their success rate is about 98% and my girl is definately preggers with just a week to go. To have it transported was pretty easy too, the sires owner released the semen to me and I just arranged road transport from her vets to mine. Not any vet though, had to be to the nearest Frozen AI clinic (not all vets deal with it obviously and unfortunately) The hardest part of the whole thing was the travelling every other day for prog tests 2 1/2 hours one way. Sorry I cant help any further but give the thread a bump
  13. Shame Good luck and hope someone comes to the rescue soon. For future reference, my crates will sit in the shed until someone in need needs them, I will never need them again (as soft and squishy as the Neos are there is a limit ) but I wont sell them, I would rather give them away to help someone out.
  14. Oh bugger Teebs... I have at least 3 here going begging. Solid weld mesh, non foldable from when I had the Staffords. They are just sitting in the shed collecting dust. But I'm near Adelaide??
  15. Neapolitan Mastiffs My 3 yr old, 75kg girl has not got anymore growing to do ~ they will NOT grow into that skin, it is disconnective tissue. They are not related to Sharpeis, they are nothing like them. They are also very much not related to Bulldogs No they do not suffer skin problems becouse of their folds and wrinkles Yes they are a guard breed and no you can't just approach them and stick your baby in their face without asking Staffords Everything Ellz said
  16. I'm about to do my first also. Feeling quite nervous about the whole thing, with my previous breed mating were relatively easy as they seemed to breed like rabbits (hence why I got out of that breed :D ) So its my first litter with this breed and my first AI. My girl is due in season any day now and I have arranged the semen to come down to Adelaide from NSW. Was meant to be here this Saturday but get a phone call yesterday from the transport company that the container FAILED on route to Melbourne and all contents were destroyed So nervousness has now turned to FREAKING OUT!! This is a very important mating for me and devo for the dogs owner as he is no longer with us and she only has a certain amount of straws for him. However she has been so kind enough to allow another straw to come to me next week. i also have the stress of living miles away from the fertility clinic and having to transport my bitch several times daily leading up to the actual insemination. I can get initial tests done at my local vet. I asked if she can stay there a few days while they need her for the tests as I live so far away but the reply I got was "things we do to breed dogs". Its kinda put me off a bit as the OP said its one chance, with natural you can mate them till your hearts content.. but you do what you have to do for the betterment of the breed.
  17. Sorry Cordy have to correct you here. Having Neos with their big droopy squishy faces pretty much all of my guys have had a cherry eye or two, I have a wonderful vet who agrees with me not to muck around with them and take them out and be done with it. He does it during a normal consultation under a light sedative and local anesthetic, takes two seconds and less than $150 all inclusive and never ever have I had a dog worry about the whole proceedure. Admittedly if he is on holidays or something I can not find another vet that will take them out at all, even his partner wont do it and its kept quiet around the clinic.
  18. I'd be happy to help. I'm off to Sydney for shows for the next week but pm me to remind me when I get back to get in contact with you
  19. Hey Sway you got mine Info update for you Jedash : Staffordshire Bull Terriers Fieramente : Neapolitan Mastiffs Hope this helps
  20. Hey Samadii ~ so glad he is ok. I would say the vet needs to keep him as quiet as possible for as long as possible and with a stafford that is almost IMpossible!! Seeing you would just stir him up and like you said get that body wag going LOL. Keep us posted and give him a huge hug from his auntie Shan. I wanna know how he swollowed a 3.5cm ball whole in the first place????? A panadol can make me gag! Amazing what the little buggas can do sometimes!!
  21. So sorry Warley , R.I.P little one I know my Coachy will look out for you
  22. Thanks guys ~ HPB what a lovely poem. It has taken me two days to get this notice up and I still can't see the screen. Thanks Shoemonster, he is very special, I even had the black bugga's (ringside nick name for him) head tatooed on my back knowing he was that one special dog that only comes around once in a lifetime (not that I love any of my others any less) Samadii ~ I will try and give you a buzz later, Its been a hell couple of days and I have had OH at home as well (not helping!!!)
  23. It is with many tears and a huge ache in my heart that I say goodbye to my best friend Coach. Coachy fell asleep in my arms at 10:15 tuesday morning to be running pain and drug free with his mum and grandpa over the bridge. Coach was given to me by his breeder Karyn to campaign in the show ring after the early retirement of my first show stafford, to help give me confidence and continue showing. And that he did! Coach was a dream to show and I was very proud to be out there with him. In a very short time he became my best friend, my shadow, where ever I was, Coachy was. Coach's show career was unfortunately cut short at the tender age of four years due to a spinal injury. Coach was the most gentle, loving soul who never complained and always soldiered on no matter how much his body wouldn't allow him anymore. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Karyn and her daughter for the time that I had with Coach and the opportunity to have this wonderful dog in my life. Rest now Buddy, you are now free, free from pain and I can again see the twinkle back in your eyes. You are my angel and I will never forget you and always love you. Till we meet again Aust Ch Toptaurus Play N Th Game "Coach" Photo taken just before retirement 2004
  24. This is quite interesting ~ I had my pup from my last litter done with the nasal spray with no ill effects to her or any of my others. She was the first to have it that way and at the time I did comment to the vet that it seemed rather messy and double handling when the c5 is just one quick jab. I have my two new girls going in for theirs on wednesday and now I'm thinking to just stick with the needle! Thanks for the warning guys, I'd rather not take the risk.
  25. Pleading ignorance here but can someone please explain to me what exactly is a barf diet?? I have heard alot of DOLers talking about it and I take it that it is generally a natural diet but would like to know exactly what it entails? I currently feed raw meats chicken, beef and lamb (we are on a farm so all is home grown except the chicken) occasionally steamed deboned white fish, rice, veggies and dry food. I NEVER under any circumstances feed can food of any description not only as I believe it to be unhealthy with no sustanence (mostly just jelly with the occasional chunk of questionable meat) but it also makes the dogs fart and stink!! and I'm yet to meet a dog that can use a can opener. I have always tried my best to feed my dogs well but prior to joining DOL I had not heard of BARF and if there is more I can do for my dogs I want to try. Thanks in advance.
