Just Beautiful - Had To Share
Burdy replied to Burdy's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Well said T and you are so very right, a lot of the time it is all the 'small' things that make rescue so successful. Like so many I am unfortunately unable to take in any one atm but I certainly can help with a few dollars here and there.. -

My thoughts exactly tikira. Rescuers do rock!!! I'm hoping to be able to help anyway I can, I am on a 4 dog limit though and places are full at the moment -
I just saw this and its prob been posted before but I had to share as a BIG Thank You to all you rescue folk - it made me upon reading and think about the wonderful work you all do And for anyone who has not read it before :) Once I was a lonely dog, Just looking for a home. I had no place to go, No one to call my own. I wandered up and down the streets, in rain in heat and snow. I ate what ever I could find, I was always on the go. My skin would itch, my feet were sore, My body ached with pain. And no one stopped to give a pat Or to gently say my name. I never saw a loving glance, I was always on the run. For people thought that hurting me was really lots of fun. And then one day I heard a voice So gentle, kind and sweet, And arms so soft reached down to me And took me off my feet. "No one again will hurt you" Was whispered in my ear. "You'll have a home to call your own where you will know no fear." "You will be dry, you will be warm, you'll have enough to eat And rest assured that when you sleep, your dreams will all be sweet." I was afraid I must admit, I've lived so long in fear. I can't remember when I let A human come so near. And as she tended to my wounds And bathed and brushed my fur She told me 'bout the rescue group And what it meant to her. She said, "We are a circle, A line that never ends. And in the center there is you protected by new friends." "And all around you are the ones that check the pounds, And those that share their home after you've been found." "And all the other folk are searching near and far. To find the perfect home for you, where you can be a star." She said, "There is a family, that's waiting patiently, and pretty soon we'll find them, just you wait and see." "And then they'll join our circle they'll help to make it grow, so there'll be room for more like you, who have no place to go." I waited very patiently, The days they came and went. Today's the day I thought, my family will be sent. Then just when I began to think It wasn't meant to be, there were people standing there just gazing down at me. I knew them in a heart beat, I could tell they felt it too. They said, "We have been waiting for a special dog like you." Now every night I say a prayer to all the gods that be. "Thank you for the life I live and all you've given me. But most of all protect the dogs in the pound and on the street. And send a Rescue Person to lift them off their feet." Author: Arlene Pace

Hi Everyone I have a large dog kennel to give away. It is in reasonable condition, fully lined with carpet, colourbond roof and on casters for easy relocation and keep up off the ground. Has been slightly renovated around the door by previous owner but nothing a lick of paint and good clean wont fix. Previously owned by Neapolitan Mastiffs, this kennel is a good size and fairly sturdy. I am located in the Adelaide Hills, please PM me if you are interested :)

Any Giant Breed Rescues Out There
Burdy replied to Burdy's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Thanks SAS, I'll send Patricia an email and see if she has any youngsters in at the moment :) -
Hi I have a full but open 15kg bag of Royal canin Giant Breed Formular Puppy that has been mixed with a 7kg bag of Supercoat puppy and 7kg bag of Optimum puppy. It is all open and mixed together in a 60l bin. Have only used about 1 or 2 kgs. All up would be about 30kgs. I also have half a dozen tubes of 40+kg Advocate to throw in as well. Unfortunately this will have to be pick up only, please PM me for details if you can make good use of this :)

Firstly, so sorry for the recent losses of Flur and Grumpy Quite a few years ago I lost my dog to the hands of my ex husband and he burried him on the side of the road of a farm he worked at, I was devistated that he was buried out there all alone in some random place and vowed that from then on none of my guys would ever not come home and leave me so I have had everyone cremated. I have not had the opportunity to choose the vessel but all 4 have come home in a nice ceramic urn. I have had brass plaques made for each and they sit on the side board in the living room. One of my boys was given to me by a breeder friend and was co-owned so I asked to have him put into two matching urns so she could have one also, they were very happy to do this for me. It looks like tomorrow I will unfortunately be ordering another big black urn

I know this subject has probably been covered many times before, I did a search but didn't really turn up any answers to my questions.. I'll try the short version.. As some may remember I lost an entire litter earlier this year and now I have pups on the ground to the same bitch. She has problems retaining progesterone and suffered pre-eclampsia or some kind of auto-immune problem where she reject placentas so after vigilant testing and supplementing through out her pregnancy she had 5 puppies via c-section, 2 were deceased and out of the 3 remaining boys one was only just revived and was nick named Squirt. The 2 deceased placentas were almost completely broken down and Squirts was as well. The other 2 pups were above average weight, placentas intact and in a different horn. On day 2 Mina decided that the pups were certainly not hers and were infact fair game, she grabbed hold of Squirt and managed a couple of puncture wounds before I could get him out of her mouth. Off to the vets on anti-biotics and put on tube feed as he had lost weight. Tubing was not working for him so I was feeding him by syringe as well as bottle feeding the other 2 as I have come so far as to get pups on the ground from her I was not taking any chances. Day 3 he seemed to be ok and was drinking well from the syringe and I had a good monitor of his intake. Day 4 he crawled to the corner and cried - fading. I already had him on glucose and added yakult, egg yolk and extra water, with in a couple of feeds he had stopped crying and more alert and by day 4 he was feeding very well from the bottle with me only having to top him up a few ml. We are now at day 8 and he is feeding extremely well via the bottle and is starting to gain a bit of weight (all be it slowly, he is still only just over his birth weight at this stage). So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for suppliments now he is alot stronger, to get him a bit more up to speed? And I would like to know peoples experiences with pups that have survived either fps or failure to thrive, did they eventually grow and catch up or remain somewhat weaker/smaller? Where there any residual problems as an adolecent or adult? Did they end up relatively normal? What was the age of pup when it started to fade and/or got through it? How old is too old for a pup to still be at birth weight before it can catch up? Thanks in advance

I used it for the first time about a week ago after months of battling with fleas introduced by my rescue. She seems really prone to them as when treated the other 4 dogs were fine but she had fleas again with in a week. Gave everyone comfortis just over a week ago and not a flea in sight, even the cats. But the next day I came home from work and my rescue looked like moths had been at her all day and she scratched and scratched and scratched. All of the other dogs were fine, no side effects at all. She is still scratching a bit but it seems to be lessoning. Her coat, whats left of it, is looking dull and horrible. I've now got her on zinc and flaxseed oil. I ended up getting it ebay, was cheaper and here within 3 days.

Thanks guys I will still keep her appointment for this afternoon - much rather be safe than sorry. She was still scratching a bit when we went to bed but settled quickley and didn't hear boo from her all night so hopefully it was just the fleas having their last supper

Yesterday my delivery of Comfortis chewable fles treatment tablets arrived :D My Dane has had an ongoing fles problem for the last few months with many tried and tested treatments that all failed to keep the fleas at bay. It was suggested to me that she was maybe just one of those dogs who was prone to fleas as none of my other 4 dogs seemed to have the same problem. So I gave her the Comfortis which she happily gulped down, she scratched a bit for about half an hour but then seemed to settle. When I went to bed I gave her a quick once over and couldn't see any fleas on her (she is fawn so easy to see them on her) :D it seems to be working. During the night she work me twice with the noise of her chewing at herself, which in my half asleep ear is a normal noise. This morning she seemed fine when I left for work. I have just returned from work to find her looking like moths have been feasting on her all day ;) Mainly around her rump and inbetween her legs. There is NO redness or iritation of the skin, no sores or broken areas just chunks of fur missing. Has anyone ever experienced adverse reactions to comfortis before? I have her booked in to the vet tomorrow. There have been now other changes for her in the last 24 hours diet or otherwise just the comfortis
