  1. When I had my boy put to sleep, I made the call to the vets and asked them to meet me in their carpark out the back of their surgery and I had it done in the back seat of my car so that he was not distressed at all. I sat there and held him, but as soon as the needle went in I questioned the decision I had made and wished for them to stop but in my heart I knew I had done the right thing. Hardest thing I have ever done in my life and miss him so much, if only I could have done better for him.
  2. I totally get where you are coming from, today was me 3 year anniversary of getting my Stimpy so she came and spent the entire day in the Animal Nursery which I was running at our local show. Everyone loves her - just as much as they loved the baby animals there. I am SO lucky that I was in the right place at the right time to have her end up in my life. I am her ultimate reward and I honestly think that is the most you can ever hope for in a dog
  3. Adorable!! We are headed for 1 degree here tonight, so we have put the extra warm jumpers on and extra blankets in their beds. Bring on winter.
  4. ACA always has so many vital parts missing out of all their stories, as this one seemed to. My BF was watching and his comment about that guy doing the dog impersonation was that he had to be on crack.
  5. NO I would not buy ANYTHING from a store that sells pets. I was recently very disappointed when I went into my local stock feed shop only to discover they have started selling pups and kittens and they "specialise" in the designer breeds - their example was a pom X dacshund
  6. My BF would never let the dogs near his car, we have 2 very separate area. I cannot even begin to imagine the way you are feeling right now. Make sure you tell him it has happened though because as well as you cover it up, remember he is MALE it is HIS car and he WILL notice. Best of luck.
  7. Where I use to go to dog school there was a girl who said her dog was a pure border and it was all white, I think it looks mareema ish personally. These are the only pics I have of it.
  8. None of my dogs wear collars while at home, to me the risk they pose is greater than them not having one on. One of my dogs is a fence jumper so I worry about her getting caught if she tries to escape (she is penned unless I am in the yard with her, and even when I am in the yard with her she still occasionally thinks it is ok to go see what's over the fence, I am always hot on her heels when she does it though.). People say the breakaway collars are good but I have never actually see one.
  9. REPORT HER!!!! Report whatever you know about her, if you don't you should hold yourself partly responsible for whatever else this dog hurts or even kills throughout the rest of it's life - not that you will ever know about it. But just think, how would you feel if your puppy were killed by this dog today... maybe someone will be feeling this tomorrow because of this dog if you don't report it. And as someone else has already said, keep your pup on lead and teach it to toilet while on lead, there are times in life when this is a very handy skill to have.
  10. I recently had a similar thing occur while walking our dogs. A guy was walking out of the carpark onto the street in front of us on his way to work and Chevy started pulling back on the lead really badly and tried to slip his collar to get away, so I sped up and took a wide berth around this guy, then Chevy was pulling like mad to get away and looking back. So I sped up even more AND crossed the road, Chevy was distressed and looking back for an entire block until this guy went into his work. Very bizzare behaviour for this dog as he has NEVER done anything like this before, he has never reacted badly to any human or animal, he is the most loving, best natured dog I have ever come across. Am I concerned about this behaviour? No but if it occurs again I will look deeper into it.
  11. My Stimpy had SA when I got her, but I believe I helped to create it. I found her (while walking a friends dog) dumped in a cage, it was a freezing cold day and she was climbing the mesh of the cage screaming her little lungs out, I opened the cage took her out and tucked her inside my jumper to warm her up and then walked back to my friends house to take their dog home and then returned to my house. Stimpy became VERY comfortable with me in this time. The next day I called the people on her microchip and they said they had given her away (which I didn't really believe but later I found out it was true). Stimpy stayed with me while I was advertising to find her owners, everytime I left the house she would scream, scratch the front door to bits and chew anything she could get her teeth into. After just one day she was crated everytime I had to leave the house. I believe she stressed so much due to being dumped at least twice prior to coming to me. We have worked through these issues and she is now a very happy little dog and can be easily left at home alone (although she is still a lot happier to see me when I get home than my other dogs are).
  12. http://www.indigo.org/rainbowbridge_ver2.html Makes me cry every time I watch it, but I love it.
  13. Oh no there is no possible way this could be a "real" stuffed toy of an oodle it's price tag does not reflect that, it must be a pureberd.
  14. RIP Charm, such a beautiful girl. BB I hope you are doing ok.
  15. Yay Shane!! You win again! Great job as always (and no jobs the entire time you have been gone, I could have gone to the awards afterall)
  16. Sometimes yes, but last time we went away no, we went for a month in a ute, it was over 40 degrees and went to a lot of National Parks where you cannot have dogs, it just would not have been practical. Will I go on other holidays without them?? Sure, it makes me appreciate them so much more when I get back
  17. Went to aldi today and picked up a couple of different types of these - the one in the first post and a couple of the ones that are on the bottom left of the pic with all the types in it. The second one only has one zip up pocket and a drink holder but I find it much easier to get my hand into to get treats out. I did grab 2 of each so I now have a spare of each if anyone is interested in one just let me know and I can pop it in the post.
  18. Pretty sure we don't have them in my area thank goodness! I just have a nasty huge slug infestation at my place at the moment. It is rather disgusting, my house is old so they come through the floor boards and out from under the cupboards. So this morning i tipped a heap of salt all over the floor then swept it under the cupboards, yeah gross I know but better than stepping on slugs in the dark
  19. I teach gymnastics and I believe that Froggy and I are so very close in nature. I was just drawn to her when I first saw her turns out she loves to do crazy things, jumping is just the best thing in the world to her (hence the name, Froggy). She is very agile and loves to be on anything high. I think she would be a stunt woman if she could had her way. Stimpy would be a youth worker, she is very fun but can stop at the drop of a hat to sit there and listen to anything you have to say and she always makes you feel like things really aren't that bad. And Chevy would be the biggest meat head in a football team, it doesn't matter who is in the way if he is trying to get his ball somewhere NOTHING will stop him.
  20. I will pop in tomorrow and check them out, they look good!
  21. It's so close now everyone must be getting very excited!! Hope everyone is getting their pretty dresses out of the wardrobes and deciding what shoes to wear!
  22. I get where people are coming from saying that pounds are third party and all that to backyard breeders, I have thought about this myself - BUT - just think about what would happen to those puppies and dogs if there were no rescues around.... If there were no rescues around it would not prevent these puppies from being born or these older dogs from being dumped. By buying from these places you are NOT supporting backyard breeders you are preserving the lives of these dogs and puppies. One day I may buy from a registered breeder but I am not 100% sure about that, the one thing I do know is that as much as I love rescuing older dogs my next dog IS going to be a puppy. My last 3 dogs have all been mature when I got them, I have not had a puppy since 1992 and I now feel I have learnt so much (from DOL and other places) and have so much knowledge to offer to a puppy to give it the best possible start to life and a great agility career, I might be nearly ready to get one!
  23. Can you please make this years award night pretty ordinary? Only because I really want to go and every year that Pets at Peace Central West are nominated I can't go as Shane insists on going which means I can't go as I have to stay home to run the business, so if it is an ordinary evening next year he may say that I can go.
