with the warmer days here finally, which means hot and sweaty feet when you peel off the work socks. Who's dogs will get right in there with their tongue and give those toes a good cleaning...............................??? My sheppie boy does it to my feet much to my hubby's disgust ........he is not a foot person at all, won't touch mine, ever, even for a massage So if he won't, I will get it from my dogs instead

Last night we were watching TV and my 6yr old sheppie suddenly wakes up, looks at me & wanders over with her ears back and tries to become a lap dog. I looked at my OH & said we are in for some weather very soon. Within a half hour there was a roll of thunder, flash of lightening and it poured for about 30mins with more thunder & lightening. Have you noticed a change in your dogs before the weather changes???

However it is a great excuse to go over to Melbourne for a weekend

Your little poodle will not forget your partner I looked after my bil's cattle dog X for two years when he & his family were posted to the USA for an officer exchange with the Army. When Doug came back to pickup Subby, she jumped straight back into his car without even a backward glance at myself or my hubby...........so much for a thankyou

The Importance Of A Kennel's Name
biker girl replied to Summersaint's topic in General Dog Discussion
Tragically we both are Star Trek fans if you reverse Capt James Tiberis Kirk's name, you will get our prefix..........Kerkjamestee Scottish friends of mine with sheppies have the prefix Tapferherz which translates german to "Braveheart" and yes, they are directly related to "the" Braveheart, William Wallace -
Same here too, tlc!! Many years ago, and I mean many years ago (25yrs) one of my Cardigan Corgis needed back surgery, I was still living at home, however only working pt. Though the surgery wasn't life saving, Mitch needed the op for mobility and back then I was struggling to find the $1500 upfront! Luckily my sister paid for the op & I paid her back $50 a week till it was paid off. Most recently our little Xbred dog Scout needed emergency surgery, which she survived, though there was the bill at the end of the 3 weeks vet care to take care of! Even if both our tax cheques hadn't been coming in, we would have sold something to "raise" the money for her. We are lucky that because we don't have kids, we can & will cut costs from our own budgets to pay for what our dogs need. Even when we were planning on moving down to Tassie, people asked whether we were taking the dogs with us............................umm yeah!! A girlfriend & her hubby emigrated to Aust and bought their two dogs, for them like us, it was never a question of why or even how much, it just is

Yes congratulations to EVERYONE who has done very well in your choice of discipline Well done Tassie and course the gorgeous Rory

what NOT to do...........have a absolute hissy fit when the judge refuses challange with several dogs in the lineup, the judge's opinion on the day being she believed the dogs were unsound, cow hocked etc. Then refuses to present animals for the class runoffs. Then procceeds to bag out the BOB winner, forgetting that tents are not soundproof and BOB handler was standing in the next tent Oh wow, you're describing exactly what happened in SA this weekend.

No different to when you go into a dog park that is fenced & signed as such, then morons bring their children, then complain about the dogs in a dog park Slightly ot......I hate it when certain types of mothers think they have the right of way, because they have a pram Dont get me started on Mums with prams who think they have the right also to re-arrange the sitting in cafes, cause they need/want to sit in the best table and expect everyone to move for them Maybe we should all move this to the "children free" thread on off topic

Legacee, I have seen & heard your last sentence over the years too The worst I think that comes to mind, was several years ago when one lady All Breeds judge stormed out of the ring after BIS judging with the comment "that's the last time I GIVE HIM a best in group" Funnliy enough I have never entered under her, nor will I either!

Your boy looked lovely out there Barb Shame more didn't hang around for the rally-o, it was a long day for everyone. Good luck to you for this weekend's trial and please pass on my thoughts to the lovely Lynn & her gorgeous Chloe

Hi guys its been awhile since I posted a brag, though this isnt a brag..........as such.........because I am still kicking myself!!! We popped down to Hobart for a double obedience trial, with Seven & UD for the morning trial, where she anticipated the finish on the seek back, then dropped the metal in her articles, then forgot what STAY meant on the group exam!! The pm trial was a blinder with scores of 30 for seek back, 19s for send aways, 14/14/13 for articles, 21 signals (came forward abit from the drop) and 20 for food refusal. group exam again she FORGOT what stay meant, did her 7min out of sight down so finished with a score of 175NQ!!!! I have been so caught up in teaching & reinforcing the complex stuff of UD, I havent spent time with the basics Hence why I am still kicking myself.............so guess what we are doing leading up the the next trial............basic obedience!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Tassie was wondering how today went Looking forward to seeing Jan on Wednesday night & trying out the "new" moves btw was Hobart going to have a mock rally-o on Sunday at the trial??
-
me too!!! All our washing is dried on our front veranda on airers. Out of 6 dogs (over a period of several years) we haven't "lost" any washing to our dogs, only the occasional blanket that has been put out to air........where the dogs can reach..........and that is our fault for leaving it within reach

Tips For First Time Triallers
biker girl replied to wuffles's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
and....................................breathe Remember you both (handler & dog) are being judged as a TEAM, so looking like a team & working together as a team, for instance...... if you have a little dog, take little steps to match, if you have a larger dog, take slighly longer steps. Cue your stops/turns with a smoooooooth transition of steps, dont just stop/turn & expect your dog to be watching. Try to think of the ring as an extension of your training and that it is your oppuruntiy to "show off" what the two of you can do!!! Go into the ring with an aura of confidence (easier said than done ) Most of all have fun & enjoy the challanges ahead of you with you furbaby -
Tassie has been "onboard" with rally-o for about two years now, at our club at Ulverstone we train rally-o as part of our general obedience & have members comps often. Last month we had our first advance course for everyone to have a run through! At the completion of the last obed trial of the year at Launie there was another mock trial for people to try, there would have been about 12 entries that afternoon. Angelsun is apparently coming down to Hobart at the end of Feb for an advance rally-o seminar!!!

OMG Labsrule its situations like that, that I am talking about :D Thanks everyone for your replies, Adian again....thankyou :D When out walking our dogs, we dont have "stuff" with us to protect our dogs with, so your suggestion makes sense............hopefully I never have to remember it!

I was watching a TV show during the week & the show had cctv footage of a dog attack........two "red zone" dogs on to a large sheppie type dog & it was not nice to watch It left me wondering the question "what would you to try & defend/protect your own dog/s in a similar situation???? Seeing the footage left me with a awful feeling of helplessness watching the owner trying to kick these dogs off his own dog & made me think.........
