It may have been Sentinel Spectrum she was thinking of perhaps?

I'm going to slightly differ and say that ANYTHING that is printed on the registration certificate issued by the CC MUST be written on the entry form. This includes prefixes, affixes, titles etc. Anything that is on the registration certificate forms an official part of the name. And the space asking for name on the entry forms specifically states "Details of the dog entered must be identical with the registration of the controlling body with whom the dog is registered." So if the actual registration certificate says that the dogs name is "IAMA LONGHAIRED WEIMERANER (LH)" then that is what you put on the entry form in the name section. In answer to the Sundry fee question...this would be where you would enter donations, or membership dues or anything else that isn't an entry fee or a catalogue amount. Check your entry forms carefully if you have put anything in this because it will add that amount on top of your catalogue amount if you have entered it and in addition to your actual entry fees which you will have entered for each dog individually.

I hate to tell you this but no sign is a sure sign. My older girl Ali showed me every sign that she was in whelp late last year, including every sign you have mentioned and she didn't have anything. On the other hand, the younger bitch who had the OOPS mating had very few signs and had puppies. And of course, then you have Koda who was OBVIOUSLY in whelp from the minute she came home from Melbourne after her mating and showed every textbook sign, including a day of morning sickness at 13 days and gave birth to 9 puppies.

Hot Spots can be caused by diet and even if there hasn't been a change, it could still be something that is the result of a slow buildup. Not all allergies are immediate. I'd be looking at that if both dogs got tham at the same time. Or perhaps it is a contact allergy and not a hotspot? Lots of things it could be really but the fact that both got them at once is what is leaping out at me. Another treatment for hotspots is an anti-haemorrhoidal cream like Preparation-H. They are antifungal, antibacterial and anaesthetic so can heal, dry and help with the itchies at the same time. It's also a good idea if you can to clip a "raft" around the hot spot. That leaves the hot spot bare and creates a barrier to the rest of the hair as well.

No advice from me. I'm never particularly certain that I have dealt with things properly. But anyway!

A lot depends upon what you're doing with them. I find single-sided are much better for more natural blending and for thinning underneath top coat without taking clumps.

+1 I'd be waiting to see what maturity will bring before I worry too much about the cosmetic side of things, especially the artificial type stuff.
-
Legally, NO offal cooked or otherwise.
-
Me too! 4 dogs, 5 bitches! ;)

+1 It is difficult enough to get vets to give GOOD references about their clients, let alone damning stuff. ;)
-
Yes. It was spot on. I was actually quite amazed at what I was told.

I purchased a bag of Uncle Albers just this morning. $31.90 for 22kg. And it goes such a long way. Many people regard it as a poor quality food but I have seen (and heard about) some outstanding results so I'm going to continue to use it whilst I can still get it.

It's not really that silly Jeanne. Tasmania is a hydatid free place and they want it to stay that way. Our hydatid-free status is one of the reasons that our livestock is a big earner for us. I think the whole point is that if they relax the law to allow some offal, it has to be completely changed to allow all offal and that is where the industry would fail.
-
The only thing stopping me from starting BARF at the moment is the fact that it is illegal to feed offal to dogs in Tasmania. ;) I'm still trying to think of a way around it. I daresay others do it, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable blatantly breaking the law and yet preaching responsible dog ownership at the same time IYKWIM.

A marked catalogue is also sent to the CC at the completion of the show by the show secretary. This is a catalogue that has been completely marked throughout with all class, breed, group and show placements and together with the judging slips forms a complete history of the show that is retained by the CC and used to record things such as CCs issued to various breeds, absentees etc. It will also be used if there is a dispute and to check that people are financial as at the date of the show, that dogs are exhibited in correct ownerships, leases current etc etc.

Do you have a feed supplier? If so, you should be able to access at least Great Barko or Uncle Albers. Made by the same company, Laucke Mills in South Australia. If your feed supplier doesn't stock it, ask them.
-
I'm not a huge fan of either dog rolls OR supercoat, for maintenance let alone weight gain. Uncle Albers/Great Barko are really good for weight gain. Both are quite high in fat and you don't need to feed a lot. I find that giving my dogs the recommended amount has them looking like the Goodyear blimp!!!

Bad Alice has LOTS of people bluffed! Because she's an only, she thinks she rules the world. And because she thinks she looks like a Stafford, she thinks she's VERY tough!
-
Do you have a blender/juicer? Put the offal through that and mix the juice in with their meat/veg.

Something you could try is contacting Fair Trading. If you have purchased a dog with the expectation of receiving registration papers and that has not happened, then you haven't received what you paid for and Fair Trading will more than likely be able to assist you. Unfortunately, as the CCs are only classed as "registering bodies" anything outside this is classed as a civil matter. A CC can only enforce their rules if a person is a financial member. They cannot force them to rejoin or do paperwork. Fair Trading may have a little more clout in this regard and may be able to put a bit of pressure on the breeder to make good on the transaction. Just a thought......

You could try chlorophyll in the drinking water. It can help to neutralise the smell. Failing that, I usually end up crating my boys right next to the girl in season. They seem to make more of a fuss and more noise if they are removed from the object of their affection than they do if they are right beside her.

If she has been licking at herself her saliva could stain the hair red as well.

I would be feeding on a minimum of twice per day, preferably a minimum of 3 times per day for a large puppy like that. It won't hurt him to be fed by somebody else. As long as it is you doing most of the lovin' he won't really give a toss who feeds him, as long as they do. Leave the food down for maximum 15 minutes per meal and then take it away and don't feed again until next meal time.

Had a lovely day out at the Huon and Channel Kennel Club Parades on Saturday. Not a huge entry but lovely (albeit slightly too hot) weather and the most wonderful company made for an awesome day!! Even Mr Ellz who was grumpy to start with got into the swing of things and ended up enjoying himself and commented on the way home that THAT is what shows should ALL be about! :D Many thanks to the Rajacadoo-doo-doo clan for putting up with us and the most HUGE, GRATEFUL thanks must go to Miss O Rajacadoo-doo-doo who helped me to handle my merry gang of monsters! Bad Alice was simply AMAZING!! Talk about a show girl. Both judges were blown away and commented "she LOVES it!". She's got her faults has Bad Alice, but I think she'll have the attitude to carry them well! Anyway, Bad Alice won Baby In Group at both parades. We were also talked into showing Roger and Flame Stafford for the first time as well. They weren't quite as "ready" as Bad Alice and we probably would have gotten better movement had we put a brick on a lead and taken that in the ring but Flame managed to beat Roger at both Parades and was Baby In Group at both Parades as well. Miss O Rajacadoo-doo-doo ably handled Flame in Specials, although both judges gave me permission to move her because she was "dragging" slightly more animatedly for me by this stage! Was quite funny for the afternoon parade. Flame saw the Specials judge heading towards her and promptly plonked herself in typical elegant Stafford fashion, doing the "slump". Our judge (a Stafford person himself) laughed at her and said "are you broked?"....."never mind, I'll fix you together again". He was wonderful with her and I'm very grateful to him! Roger (photography courtesy of Mrs Rajacadoo-doo-doo who isn't quite as technologically challenged as she paints herself! ) Flame Bad Alice Attack puppies!

Yes it is possible that a single breed entry will NOT get Best of Breed. If a judge does not consider the exhibit worthy of the points, they are not required to award them. Being there and being the only is no guarantee.....you don't get points just for turning up.
