Hey Aziah, go easy huh?? I think the OP is not from an English-speaking background and the way they have worded their post may not convey the true meaning behind their intent. It sounds to me as though they don't own their own home in their own country and if that is the case, it can be almost impossible to own a dog in some places without heaps of red tape etc. It also isn't always financially possible for people to take their pets with them if they leave the country. I know for a fact that if I had to leave Australia for any reason, I probably couldn't afford to take any of mine with me. I am unable to help but hope that the dog finds a good home.

Don't you love that "my brain has just departed from my left ear" look? Thankfully, my only sexually mature boy doesn't do it. But he is DEADLY when the time is right!!!

I guess a lot can be breed dependent. I can assure you that the "quality" of enquiry that I receive for Staffords is VERY different to the enquiries that I receive for American Cocker Spaniels. Some emails immediately get my radar pinging and I don't even bother replying to those. I'd rather them think I'm rude than have to engage in any form of conversation with them which may encourage them. MOST emails get at least a courtesy reply but I do give preference to those who have obviously thought out their emails and haven't just sent me something that says "I want a staffy puppy how much are they?" But I WON'T be putting prices on my website any time soon. I may consider a "ballpark figure" but I would rather not lock myself into something that even I don't know until such time as I have entered into a lengthy discussion with a prospective purchaser. And editing to add: Even WITHOUT putting prices on my website, my entire litter of Stafford puppies (9 minus the two that I kept) were sold easily by the time they were 9 weeks old, to extremely suitable and loving forever homes and I could have probably sold another 7 as well.

Try googling Dr Carmen Battaglia. He may have a link to the book from his site. He quotes Brackett a lot and refers back to his theorum on multiple occasions on his website and during his talks.

During whelping calcium can help to maintain contractions and the strength of contractions. Often just enough to help a tiring bitch push that little bit to get a slowish puppy out. Immediately after whelping a shot of calcium (instead of oxytocin) can help the bitch to pass anything that may still be inside and help the milk to let down. Similar functions to oxytocin but a lot more gentle on the uterus and less painful for the bitch.

Apple Cider Vinegar in drinking water or on food. The staining is usually caused by bacteria drying on the hair shaft. Disclaimer: All eye staining should be checked out by a veterinary opthalmologist or a vet who is very experienced with eye issues. The "average" vet will not be able to diagnose eye problems like distichiasis or blocked tear ducts which can cause excess tearing. Very important that the cause be found before a cure can be expected to work.

You don't have to believe my comment was fair. Based upon what you have said, regardless of WHY you made the decision you did, you made a mistake. The breeder has no obligation whatsoever to upgrade the dog from Limited to Main if they don't wish to. As I said, YOUR error was in taking a dog in LR in the first place and not getting one free of restrictions for breeding/showing. If the breeder had not explained that the dog was not for breeding/showing, that would be an entirely different thing, but from what I can see, you clearly understood this from the beginning and still took the dog. The fact that you now hope the breeder will upgrade it is really immaterial. Just because YOU do things one way, doesn't mean that somebody who uses LR is "abusing it". What it comes down to is that you are a breeder. You sell everything on Main Register (apparently unless there is a reason not to), but not everybody does that. Just because somebody doesn't do things "your way" doesn't make them wrong. The fact is that you purchased a dog on LR KNOWING it was on LR but hoping it would be upgraded. The breeder doesn't wish for this to happen. You're pissed at the breeder and apparently trying to "force" them to upgrade the dog when really, they have no necessity to do so. You've learned a lesson and need to get over it and next time, if there is ANY chance in the future that you may wish to breed from, or show a dog, you need to purchase one on MR. That's it.....end of story. Nothing unfair at all and basing my reply entirely upon the information that YOU have given so you can't use the old "look i started this topic to get everyones thoughts on the matter. not to be abused by someone that doesn't even know the whole story" line because you will not always get people who are going to pat you on the back and say "there there, poor kyxen, nasty breeder". Many of us have BEEN in the shoes of the "nasty breeder" and we have very good reasons for NOT upgrading dogs from LR to MR.

at first it was because he wanted to see the dog when he was a year old to make sure he was to standard. then he just out right refused to change him after we sent him pictures and got judges to look at him ect not sure on the reason i think he just wanted to control the breed ect. there are several breeders that he told of this arangement but now says we never told him we had intentions of breeding or showing. which is a lie coz we already had 4 other dogs at the time and we had another pup we were interested in as well but he said he would change the dog off LR otherwise we wouldnt have got the pup in the first place. Well, my experience tells me that there are always three sides to every story. But given what you have said here, I'm afraid you must accept at least 75% of the "blame" in this case. Why ANYBODY who already breeds and shows dogs would knowingly accept a dog on LR with those conditions is absolutely beyond me. I'm sorry, but NO puppy is good enough to gamble on in this way. If you can't buy the dog on Main Register to do with what you will, or at the least in a partnership with the terms and conditions clearly laid out IN ADVANCE, then the fact is....you walk away.

There are a few: Coates Animal Transport Animal Travel Jet Pets Dogtainers I'm in the process of sending a puppy to Japan and I am going with Mel from Dogtainers ACT for that. She has been simply awesome. I will more than likely be sending an adult to the USA later in the year and I have a funny feeling Mel will get that job too.

Not true. The registration has no bearing on a dog's usability or even its suitability as a pet. Which is the purpose that most people buy dogs for. Registration does have bearing on a dog's usability regarding showing and breeding. I'm sorry, I just can't take any more of this. Good luck everybody....... :D

And what about the situation where you have perfectly valid reasons for not wanting your dog (and pedigree) to fall into the hands of another person? Or woe betide, a puppy farmer or oodle breeder? There are many documented cases where people have sold a dog in good faith not knowing that the person to whom they are selling is an agent for an exporter or an undesirable purchaser. Puppies sold on Main Register are a lot more marketable to the unscrupulous and any breeder selling puppies on Main Register can surely have no peace of mind that their puppies are in the right hands.

If a dog is destined for a companion only role, then it has no need for Main Registration papers because it is not going to be bred from or exhibited and therefore Limited Registration is the appropriate registration for it to be on.

If you haven't already, Pat Craige Trotter's book Born To Win Breed To Succeed is another good one. It explains what the "black holes" are in a pedigree and also how certain sex linked traits cannot be expressed through the opposite gender. Very interesting.

Advice Please...puppy Apparently Dead After Illness

No, they're not. They actually "belong" to the ANKC. The rules state that the papers of a deceased dog should be returned to the issuing controlling body. And, that worries me too Aziah. Especially given that the puppy was an Amstaff. Having "valid" registration papers with a dog (and no microchip) registered as an Amstaff in the wrong hands could open up some particularly nasty cans of worms!!!! -
Which is precisely why Limited Register CAN be raised to Main Register upon application by registered owner and breeder of record. Not all breeders will raise a limited to main............seen some massive arguments over that before Which means that the purchaser needs to do their homework prior to purchasing their puppy. ALWAYS before I sell a puppy on Limit (and ALL of my puppies go on limit with the exception of what I keep for myself these days), I discuss with a person at length what Limited Registration means to them and what it would mean in the future. A purchaser should ask the questions before taking the puppy and that would include what would happen if they wanted to upgrade. In some cases, the breeder would be agreeable IF the reasons were right and the dog was of sufficient quality but I can understand why many wouldn't. The key point is though that communication BEFORE the purchase is essential. And yes, I personally HAVE upgraded a dog from Main to Limit. Will I do it again. I don't know, that would depend upon future circumstances. I will not rule it out, but I won't say that I will either.

Would you mind PMing me if you've been around for a while. I have been asked to find out some information about somebody who claims to have the breed, or be a breeder and I'd like to be able to give them a relatively informed reply if at all possible.

But the issue is, why does he need them if the pup is deceased? ANKC ruling is that they must be returned to the canine controlling body upon the death of the dog. As for getting papers when he picked up the pup.....sometimes there are legitimate reasons for the papers NOT being ready when puppies are collected. Whilst it would be wonderful to have all paperwork sorted and ready when the puppies leave home, the reality is that sometimes things are held up. It is not currently law for breeders in Victoria to microchip, although many do. It WILL soon be compulsory for breeders Australia-wide to microchip puppies prior to registration with canine controlling bodies. Until then, yes, it would have been good if the puppy HAD been chipped but certainly the OP had no legal requirement to do so. -

He may only be asking for reimbursement for the price of the papers (or the papers themselves) NOW, but can you imagine what the reaction will be if the OP were to send him a couple of bucks in an envelope, considering that in "real" terms that is essentially all they are worth for an apparently deceased puppy? The actual papers he cannot have, that is an ANKC rule. Papers for deceased animals are SUPPOSED to be returned to the controlling body for notation and disposal. What he'd want a copy for or why he would expect to get $30 for papers is apparently something that he has in his own mind. Would be interesting to find out exactly what his train of thought would be (trainwreck I'd imagine) but I for one am not putting up my hand to ask him! -
You don't see the body language change Corvus but the Stafford obviously does. The growl may be all it takes for that particular dog to react. I'm not there so I can't say for sure, but to be honest, I personally wouldn't have my dogs offlead in a dog park anyway no matter how much I might trust them myself. So in that case, again it's an owner issue and the owner putting the dog into a situation for which it is not suited IYKWIM. My dogs play here and play hard amongst themselves.....American Cockers, Greyhound and Staffords and the Pug and Puli when they were here too. But they were supervised and the minute things started getting a bit serious then it was time out and this spoilsport Mum pulled the pin on the fun and games until everybody has calmed down and things have reverted back to the normal status quo. If I were in a position of having to use dog parks to exercise my Staffords, then I wouldn't be going when there were other dogs there or if I did, my dogs would stay safely on lead.
