  1. Woger met a PBGV too.....AND....he gets to sleep with her every night! I used to show Bassets for a friend of mine years ago now. And the first dog that was ever "mine" was a lovely tricolour boy from the now defunct Houndsleigh Kennels in Sydney. Of course, he had the UBER original name of "FRED"! Well I was only five....
  2. My take: Permissible is "ok if it is there but would prefer it only if everything else is spot on" Tolerated is "yeah ok, if you REALLY must have it and there is absolutely no other option"
  3. Ummmmmm.....I WAS by myself, and it was a fight between two bull breed dogs. Wheelbarrow is essentially useless and I would NEVER do it again. As for throwing the dog....two bull breeds....you'd be throwing TWO dogs!!
  4. Sorry but last time somebody here used the "wheelbarrow" position, the dog swung around and latched onto them....and that person is me. It IS possible to be bitten like that!! I wasn't thinking clearly and didn't approach the skirmish like I normally would, ie break stick in, choke hold on collar and push dogs towards each other. They have to breathe and if you cut off their oxygen supply, they WILL open their mouths to grab a breath and this is the time to quickly separate them. I have also had success with a hose down the throat or nose or a spray bottle with lemon and water or ammonia and water sprayed in the face. Be careful you don't spray it on yourself or you'll be no help whatsoever. Editing to add: And yes, definitely easier to prevent fights rather than break them up. And if you do have dogs which are more potentially volatile make sure they always have a collar on!!!
  5. I used them, paid for the full screening but had to contact them to get them to test for one of the colours that they didn't do (but should have). Can't really complain, it was worth the money. Just sad that despite coming back clear for HC and L2-HgA, my dog was diagnosed with a cataract in his right eye a few months later. This means that whilst he is clear by DNA, and clear by parentage of "hereditary" cataracts, there is apparently another strain of cataract that appears in the breed.
  6. Another vote for the Les Poochs brushs. I have two and the Matzapper is BRILLIANT!!!!
  7. The rules against importation have been around for many years. I recall when I imported a dog from the UK back in the very early 90's, there was a place on the import application for a vet in the UK to certify that the dog was NOT a pitbull or any of the banned breeds.
  8. Silver Bullet wig brushes. Love them so much, I use them on my own hair as well as the dog. And WELL under $40.
  9. Told you he'd sort it! I had complete faith. As I said, if he can't fix something, it can't be fixed!
  10. Definitely contact Wayne (Wayrod from DOL). If he cannot sort the problem and generally a LOT cheaper than anybody else, the problem cannot be sorted.
  11. Just read this thread too...I'm guilty of accosting other people's dogs. I was a shocker when I was in Melbourne with my son a couple of weeks ago. I was missing my Woger dreadfully and there were so many lovely Staffords at the Rugby that I couldn't help but fondle a few! Luckily their owners were very friendly and well-socialised and they didn't mind at all!
  12. My boy loves the taste of it, but sadly, it doesn't agree with him at all. Whenever I start him back on it, he starts upchucking no matter how little I start him on.
  13. They asked me what I wanted specifically and I said name, dob, reg number, breeder. The reply came back that the info would not contain breeder but all other info would be included. $50 is their hourly charge for data extraction or searches etc but I guess technology is making searches easier? He said it would probably take a week to get it back to me because they have a fair bit on at the moment (Royal season is upon us).
  14. I have literally JUST heard back from Dogs Tas and they can email me what I am after for $50.
  15. I know of somebody in NSW who purchased a copy from Dogs NSW last year so not sure what the go is.
  16. Funny you should mention this. Last night I zapped off an email to Tas Dogs asking the same question. I'll let you know what they say when I receive a reply.
  17. Green, turquoise and red work well behind blue/grey dogs.
  18. This is why I mostly feed raw now. Too hard to source dry food regularly and I'm not a fan of Black Hawk which is about the only food which seems to be easy to find whenever it is needed. For boxes of chicken frames I go to Robbo's Chicken in Glenorchy ($10 per box). Other than that, there is a new pet food butcher opened up nearby in New Norfolk and I get the rest of the food in there.
  19. I don't use Vasoline on anything much. Given that it is petroleum jelly, I can think of other things I would rather put in sensitive places.
  20. I've always used whatever is at hand, have been known to use peanut butter, vegemite, honey and even ham paste or anchovette. Whatever works!
  21. Drontal is fine. And yes, all that is required is to tape or fasten the packaging from the Drontal to the top of the crate. When the dog arrives, it will be held at the freight section until the quarantine officer arrives. Normally, you won't even see them but occasionally they will ask questions. The Drontal packet is all they really want to see. If they are in doubt, they will sometimes hand you a couple of tablets at the time of collection....but no dramas! :)
  22. Off topic but Ellz I think in your avatar picture you have a good candidate for Grumpy Pup, to rival Grumpy Cat  I wish Matilda could make me as wealthy as Grumpy Cat has made his parents!!!!
  23. ...converts another Stafford hater to a person who can see that they aren't at all what the media and bad owners have made them out to be.
  24. Was talking to somebody the other night who has a litter of 8 puppies from a 13yo Beagle stud.
  25. I would say it is because of the obvious abuse of the Dogzonline benefits by puppy farmers and backyard breeders I would say. Because of the "popularity" and sadly price tag of some of the puppies in these breeds, many people are seeing them as a quick way to make a buck or two without regard to temperament, health or type. Having to demonstrate proven track record by way of showing, obedience or other recognised activities shows that the breeder isn't just doing it for the puppies.
