I'd be sectioning too. Either at the temp drop or after a prog test, whichever is easiest. For me it's the temp drop, I don't have a local vet to get fast prog results. Just to explain about a singleton puppy not triggering labour. Labour is a result of hormones. A singleton puppy often does not create enough of these hormones to start things along properly or if things start, sometimes to continue things as they should be. After my experience with my American Cocker bitch and her two puppies last year and my Stafford bitch and her 9 puppies last year, I think I will always err on the side of caution now when it comes to very small, or large litters.

Blades yes, but not clippers. As Lowenhart says, they're the wrong voltage for Australia if purchased from the USA. The actual prices are usually great but the undoing comes with the postage costs.

Our council here has strict bylaws about off leash and on leash areas as well as the length of the leash etc. It is expected that all complaints go through them in the first instance.

Best Shampoo And Conditioner
ellz replied to Rascalmyshadow's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Used to be able to buy it at Coles up until about 4 years ago. I loved it. Excellent stuff. That and the Vitapoint hair cream stuff my grandmother used to use. I found some in a box at a tip shop a few years ago and it brought back some amazing memories! -
Best Shampoo And Conditioner
ellz replied to Rascalmyshadow's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I used Lustre Creme for many years until it was taken off the market. I was gutted. It was one of THE best shampoos around for almost all hair types. It was also handy to take away to show circuits because I only needed to pack one lot of shampoo for me and the dogs combined! -
I'd be doing a prog too but my opinion is that she is early pre-labour (especially considering her temp dropped below 37 last time) so not a lot to be concerned about YET.

Biss- Should You Enter Property Classes?
ellz replied to Irish Lassy's topic in General Dog Discussion
It many clubs it is an "unspoken" rule that BIS and RUBIS winners don't compete in property classes with the exception of Sire and Dam's progeny. It's certainly courtesy anyway IMO. -
Well, in Staffords it stems back to the "olden days" before genetics was understood and they feared that the black/tan colouration which they believe came from the English Toy Terrier or its ancestors, may take over and with it may come the finer, smaller build that might "ruin" the breed. In American Cockers black/tan is permitted but sable isn't and those who have done their best to outlaw the colour have tried to say that a Beagle or a dachshund or another breed is the culprit. Neither are true, but old habits die hard.
-
In layman's terms...you can't get sable without the tan points gene. It is effectively the on/off switch for the sable patterning. Editing to continue: There are colours/patterns in many breeds that whilst possible aren't allowed. For example, sable happens in American Cockers (usually froma parent with tan points or which carries the tan points gene), but they aren't allowed. Smut Staffords can produce black/tan puppies which aren't desirable.

I Tried To Be A Good Samaritan Last Night
ellz replied to kirsty79's topic in General Dog Discussion
It may well be true, but it doesn't help the situation or give the OP (or anybody else) clear guidelines as to what they should do if it happens again! Obviously, the OP did everything they said that the RSPCA suggest (council etc) and STILL got no assistance. That's really great. Incredibly handy. And so typical. -
Only for your husband! And of course...you.....who married him!

Reputable Kelpie Breeder Recommendations
ellz replied to koalathebear's topic in General Dog Discussion
My girl, although bred by Tangarlee is from Ringbarka lines. Her breeder works closely with Cass (Ringbarka) and I'm very happy thus far with my girl. She is incredibly intelligent but as sweet as sugar. I had another Kelpie a few years ago from a well known show kennel and he was nothing but a PITA. -
Best Shampoo And Conditioner

Another vote for Laser Lites. It is also formulated and produced by Afghan people so they know what they're doing. -
I only use #10 for face and ear clips or #15 for full-body shave downs on the American Cockers, but some people prefer more hair left on them so the #7F is a nice mid-length and texture.
-
Blade size I'd be thinking #10, #15 and for all over body clips maybe a #7F

I think I need either a holiday or an eye test (maybe both).....I read the title of this thread as "Breeders Permit Mating" and my first thought was...yeah, that's why they're breeders! :p Sorry.....don't mean to make light of a serious subject, just thought you'd get a giggle out of my stupidity.

Keeping Dogs Out Of The Ring To Help Others
ellz replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Had that happen to me in Sydney some years ago. Needed just the same amount of points as the CC would have given my dog. Everybody else pulled and sat at ringside and watched me pull up a couple of points short. Joke was on them though because they also had to sit at ringside and watch me win the Group. Didn't need their piddly points anyway! -
Tasmanian Dolers Beware - Snakes Out Already - Rip Molly Dog
ellz replied to Tassie's topic in General Dog Discussion
RIP Molly ;) I haven't seen a snake here yet in the 2 and a bit years I've been here, my luck is bound to run out sooner or later (probably sooner). I don't DO snakes and I don't DO spiders! -
Keeping Dogs Out Of The Ring To Help Others
ellz replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I voted no....BUT....I have not shown a dog against a dog that I bred so that it could get points. Not because I didn't think it couldn't beat me, but just because I wanted to be sure. And editing to add: And only on one occasion so that it could get the last couple of points it needed to qualify for its title for a particular deadline. Every other time before that and after that it was every dog for itself!!! -
Pink slushies are basically mince mixed with milk. Starting out very sloppy and gradually decreasing the liquid. Yep, sardines, mackerel....all kinds of calcium rich stuff.
-
Mine are reared on cows milk diluted slightly with warm water. I don't muck around with the expensive pet type milks and can't get hold of goats milk for love nor money. Puppies are given pink slushies from the get go, with soaked dry food added for texture as they get older and then reducing the milk in the slushy gradually until they're on complete solids They are also given yoghurt, cottage cheese and other calcium rich foods and then vegetables are gradually added and the dry food is no longer soaked. Considering most of us are careful of how much cereal content we feed, it's a bit of a double standard to wean our puppies on cereals IMO.

I got a cd yesterday at the show with mine. Apparently there werent enough pics for a CD with Lincoln, so the guy said he would email them. If it is Trafford, fret not, you'll get them and probably reasonably quickly. I cannot believe that man and his organisational skills. Would you believe that even after 20 odd years, he still remembered me, the dog he photographed, where the photos were taken AND he still has the negatives!!!!!!!!
