  1. If you shopped around you could probably get an Olympus SP600-UZ for a squeak under $300. I love mine, it is a step up from my Sony Cyber-Shot and takes an amazing photo. You can also do a lot with the manual settings once you get a bit more confident too. Although I'm now saving for a DSLR because my appetite has now been whetted and I want to take my photos to another level. Has some great features and takes a really good burst series too which can be handy for taking pet photos! I also like the Macro settings which can be fun. It does take batteries though, although I think it can take Lithium as well. BUT, that said, I take HEAPS of photos every day (often in the region of a couple of hundred) and I don't go chewing through battery power at a great rate of knots. I do have two sets of batteries though, 1 in and one charged, or charging and I find that really handy. And of course if I do happen to run out of batteries when I'm out somewhere and don't have any charged, I could always buy some more. It's not a tiny camera, but it feels nice in the hand and all of the contours are in the right spots. I'm really happy with what I've been doing with mine. I'll let you know on Thursday what Trafford thinks of it...he was tempted to purchase one as a quick back-up to his professional gear. And some macro...
  2. Could possibly be but unfortunately most don't like to take mascots...they tend to get underfoot or fall overboard on the crossing!!
  3. 4 legs, 1 head, 1 tail and a bark!
  4. Is there anybody travelling from Sydney to Hobart within the next few weeks who could help with transporting a dog for me please? PM if you can help. I would really appreciate it!
  5. Is there anybody travelling from Sydney to Hobart within the next couple of weeks or so who could help with transporting a dog for me please? PM if you can help, or if you know of anybody who may be able to. I'd REALLY appreciate it!!
  6. Another alternative is to find a breeder who will take back their own. For example, I have an elderly lady who purchased a puppy from my November 2009 Stafford litter. She is not that much younger than your grandmother and already had two older Staffords but really wanted a puppy. Her daughter is not willing to take on any of her dogs when she dies. She expressed this to me when she first contacted me and I said that not only would I take back the puppy that I bred, but that I will also take her two older dogs if they are still around if something happens to her. She has now written that into her will. So it is a win-win all round IMO.
  7. This isn't actually true. Dogs don't require variety in their diet. They eat to live, not live to eat as we humans do. They do not have sophisticated taste buds as we do.
  8. It's the canine equivalent of chewing your fingernails or picking your nose....mostly just a bad habit. HOWEVER, a dog WILL eat horse shit with relish because that is nature's way of providing them with certain minerals and trace elements and it is a very natural thing for them to do.....if somewhat revolting!
  9. Lawitta is just outside New Norfolk. I daresay they have records to say who she is/was and what she did.
  10. Hasn't been available in Australia for a long time as far as I am aware. You can buy vitapoint here think priceline stocks it > Not down here unfortunately.
  11. The church.... The back of the churchyard....down there is where Woger "freaked"... Historically significant grave marker.... OMG....I saw dead people!
  12. Sheesh, the Mental Asylum at NN gives ME the heebie jeebies! I asked Trafford if he wanted to take any pics there on the 21st and he commented it probably wasn't a good idea because BOTH of us would hear things....Hotel California style! The little graveyard we were at today (at Lawitta...you may know it SC), is a lovely rural one with sheep paddocks on 2 sides and a cherry farm on the other (road frontage). We were right at the back, beautiful scenery and he just went silly. Not that he's the bravest creature on earth at the best of times, but he was REALLY freaked today! Just downloading some of the pics that I took and I'll share when they're done.

  14. We went for a wander this morning around a very, VERY old church with graves that date back to the earliest settlers in Tasmania. One of the monuments marks the burial site of the first white woman to set foot in Australia. Anyway, whilst we were wandering around (taking a few photos), Roger was (on lead) walking with us. But...on a couple of occasions, he almost jumped out of his skin about NOTHING. There was no noise, no movement but Wog took off with his ears pinned and his tail jammed up his butt. He was absolutely TERRIFIED and was shaking and obviously distressed (so of course we left). We started talking and were wondering if maybe he saw "things" that we couldn't see...the supernatural etc. What do you think?
  15. haha, ;) So have you taken on board the advice in this thread regarding breeding your puppy? Interested as you have time to reply to me but cannot seem to reply to the countless people stating reason why a litter is not a good idea ;) Poor girl is probably too busy trying to avoid those of us she has been warned about!
  16. Well, I'm the only one IN coat so I get the good ones now!
  17. Ditto to t-time! When I sent Bad Alice to Japan, I used Mel at Dogtainers ACT and she was, in a word, BRILLIANT!! But, so that the purchaser knew that it was all above board, once negotiations for the puppy itself were over, I involved Dogtainers and the purchaser (Shio) then dealt directly with Mel so that she knew that every cent she was being asked to pay was to somebody completely different and was all legitimate "expenses" involved with the export. She paid via CC direct to Dogtainers and everything was sweet. The only down side was that I felt like I was walking on eggshells during the 40 day quarantine pre-export residency period and I swear NO puppy has ever spent more time "wrapped in cotton wool"!
  18. It's law in Tasmania that dogs be restrained so that they cannot extend past the outside of the vehicle. And I believe that is for dogs inside vehicles as well as on the back of utes.
  19. Something else to consider is that being a toy breed, she may not have many puppies and may also require surgical intervention to deliver them. Naturally, there are risks involved with this as well and you may lose the bitch AND puppies. I believe your intentions are good, but honestly, is she REALLY of good enough quality to breed from her? And yes...what has HER breeder said? And editing to add: Even getting her desexed after ONE litter will not prevent her from mammary cancer if she is predisposed to getting it. It will actually make her MORE prone if she has a single litter.
  20. Personally I would desex. If you don't, every litter and season she has leaves her potentially more prone to pyometra and mammary cancer. There is absolutely NO need to breed everything that has a uterus.
  21. I've almost always used SOME human product on my dogs. Mainly because each dog is different, just as each human is different. Laser Lites is probably my dog range of choice but I have also used some Plush Puppy product on my OWN hair (and the Animal House Leave In Lustre is gorgeous on human hair too) and I still use my Plush Puppy pin brushes on my own hair as well! Whatever works really.....although I'm mindful of the silicon in Pantene and use a clarifying shampoo the bath after whenever I use that on the dogs for a show.
  22. You'll probably find with Jetpets, as with many/most other shippers...they like to include the vet work as part of their own services because they can then control the "chain of events" and the paper trail that is generated for the process. This is normal, then if there is any fallout, they can justify their own actions and know EXACTLY what was done when, where and by whom.
  23. No other details I'm afraid......details courtesy of Facebook!
  24. All I know is Greyhound BIG and Std Sm Haired Dach RUBIG. Sorry guys.
  25. You may also find that if you go for a little walk and carry her and then put her down not far from home on your return, she will be happy to walk back to her familiar, safe, home turf.
